It took Harper a couple more weeks and a hair cut to be school ready, but one and a half of those were thanksgiving break so by the time she went back she was all caught up.
I, however, was not ready for her to go to school. Neither were Sam or Dean. We were still hyper sensitive to her every twitch and every sound we heard that used to trigger a huge panic attack. Unlike me, Harper toughened up quick. She even slept in her own bed just a week after she got home. I still couldn't sleep alone at that point.
Partially awake, supposedly well adjusted Harper trudged after Sam and I towards the garage on the first day back to school grumbling the whole way, "Why is it so god damned early? Why can't school start after lunch? Can I take online classes? Why do I even have to go to school? Do I really need friends?"
"Harpie. I love you but if you don't shut the hell up I will punch you." I threatened.
"I'm serious!" She protested as we all yanked open one of Baby's doors, "Why do I need to finish school conventionally?"
"Sweetie, hunters' kids usually don't get anything close to a normal life. This is our way of making sure you're at least a little normal." Sam sighed.
"Well I'm not normal so your efforts are useless." She grumbled, rolling her eyes just barely visibly in the rear view from where I sat.
"Do you needs some midol?" I snapped as we pulled out of the garage.
"No! Actually I don't! But you need to take some before dress shopping." Harper sassed back.
"No child i'm an adult and adults use champagne and strawberries to deal with PMS." I retorted with a sweet smile.
"Giiiiirrls." Sam warned, dragging the vowel out and shooting me a quick bitch faced glance.
The ride was silent until we got into the parking lot when Harper lurched over the back of the seat so her upper body was leaning on it.
"We are still doing dress shopping tonight right? I didn't do anything to get in trouble?" She asked.
"Yeah Harpie. Joy is coming too so there's more than two opinions." I answered with excitement.
"Perfect! We can text Charlie too!" She squealed before placing a quick kiss on Sam's cheek and then mine, "I'll try not to get my phone taken away."
I rolled down the window and called out after her as she hurried over to Dallas, "I'll text you before lunch! I want updates!"
She raised the "okay" symbol over her head without turning around as she came to a stop in her circle of friends. Dallas immediately hugged her and Sam let out a noise close to a growl.
"I don't like him." He announced even though we shared opinions.
"At least he didn't flat out make out with her." I defended.
Sam shook his head, "No, he is making her think he's better than that and then he will make his move and she will fall right into his little trap."
I shifted in my seat a bit to get a better look at him, "a little cynical today, are we?" I asked raising one eyebrow at him.
"Nope. I just remember what Dean used to do to girls. He was such a tool." Sam remarked with a chuckle and shake of his head.
"Oh yeah?"
He nodded.
"Well you can reminisce at home while we get my dress." I said is a slightly mocking manner.
"Wait Dean is going too?" Sam asked with a mixture of surprise and dismay.
I nodded, "it's always good to have a male input, especially when said male is going to be your brother in law."
Sam scoffed, "Good luck dragging him through the bridal shops."

Dean had as much fun as I did. He got to lay on comfy white couches and eat orderves all afternoon. He and Harper inhaled anything with meat and cheese at each place we went.
First we found Harper a prom dress, a beautiful strapless floor length gown that was covered in sparkles and sequins in a charcoal grey. She had a bunch of fun trying everything on and dancing around the store with Dean while Joy and I corralled Olly and laughed at them.
Then we moved on to wedding dresses. Oh man.
I have never loved a man platonically as much as I loved Markus that day. This super cute little black boy with an 80's table top cut and the best fashion sense of all mankind helped put me into dresses and if it wasn't for him I would have called Sam and told him we were eloping.
We tried on everything imaginable. Princess gowns made me look ridiculous, fitted gowns with giant trains almost killed me, beachy flowy dresses were far too hipster, mermaid dresses screamed Ariel with my hair, and the sleeved lace dresses made me look Amish. I don't know how people still look elegant in those.
"Okay honey. I've got one more dress we can try and if this doesn't work I'm going to have to just make you one myself." Markus announced as he helped me walk back to the room with the train dragging behind me.
"Fingers crossed." I sighed.
We quickly changed me and Markus cinched the dress up good and tight.
"It's not traditional white but I love this cream with your hair!" He exclaimed.
I giggled a thank you as we walked back out to the viewing area.
"Well? Isn't she gorgeous?!" He asked after I had gotten up on the dias.
"Sammy sure as hell picked a hot one." Dean admitted with a wink in my direction.
"Auntie Evy! You look like a princess!" Olly exclaimed, standing up from his place on the floor with his trains and staring at me in wonder.
I smiled and knelt down to his level, "thank you buddy!"
"I love it Evy." Joy said in a 'throw in the towel' sort of way.
Harper was grinning from ear to ear, "Well look for yourself!" She exclaimed.
I did as she said and turned around to see.
Oh my god it's gorgeous.
The dress was a soft cream color with chiffon straps that flowed into the bust material. Around the waist was gold and crystal (not real crystal) beading and from there down was flowing elegant chiffon that barely brushed the floor as I moved even in heels.
"As much as I love this place, I think you should get it and go." Dean commented with complete sincerity, "Sammy's gonna love it."
"Easy big beautiful boy. We have to get her veil now and finish it off!" Markus exclaimed as he darted into another room.
Dean looked after him in shock and extreme discomfort, "did he just...?"
Harper erupted with laughter when she saw Dean's face, "It's called getting hit on!" She wheezed.
Markus swooped back in carrying a veil with matching beading and carefully placing it in my hair.
"Oh my God Evelynn you're growing up!" Joy exclaimed, tears coming to her eyes.
"I'm older than you!" I argued.
"Mom, if you don't get this dress I will put nair in your shampoo." Harper threatened.
I turned to look in the mirror again and that feeling you see girls get on 'say yes to the dress' hit me like a semi. Tears started welling up behind my eyes and I could picture myself standing outside rose hill in this dress next to Sam with all the cute little decorations we had chosen lining the aisle.
"Dean honey it's okay for men to cry. It shows your sensitive side." Markus commented as he dabbed his own eyes.
"Yeah Dean! Care more about this dress!" I teased.
"I care more about who is in it than it itself." Dean defended calmly, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees to smile up at me.
"Oh Freckles is going to be the best brother in law." Markus pretended to whisper just to me even though he said it loud enough for everyone to hear.
Harper snorted and Dean immediately leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms and legs looking completely terrified.
Joy interrupted the moment of amusement, "does the veil come with?"
Markus sighed, "Not usually Doll. But you ladies and this tall drink of water are so nice I'm going to throw it in for free." He added a wink at Dean who gave a tight uncomfortable smile back
"Oh thank you so much Markus!" I exclaimed giving him a huge hug.
He patted my back and nodded, "you're Welcome sweetheart. Now let's go get you back in those super cute jeans and we can schedule you for alterations."
Within the half hour we walked out of the store dress in hand and hand print on butt. Dean's butt to be precise.
