It's 4 a.m. Everyone left the party, except Andy and Ashley, who asked to stay the night.

After Summer left, I could just lay down on my bed and tried to sleep so that I could avoid the awful reality, but instead of that I chose to stay awake and overthink. I don't even feel to join the rest downstairs.

I'm sober again, although I couldn't resist minutes before to break a mirror. Glass pieces are on my bedroom floor and my knuckles bleed.

Suddenly the door bell rings. I hear someone opening the door.

"Hi, it's Vinnie awake?" Either way my mind wants to fuck me up making me believe that that's Summer, or that girl voice is actually her.

"Probably. He's upstairs, second door right." That's Justin. Fuck. I don't want anyone to come to my room now. I don't want anyone to come to my room for a week, indeed.

I hear steps coming closer. Fuck, the mirror. I cover it with a sheet.

The girl knocks the door.

"Vinnie? It's me, Summer." Of course is she. Who else would come at this time to visit me?

Maybe if I don't say a word she leaves thinking I'm sleeping. Doesn't work, she comes in anyways, so she sees me sitting on the floor. I wonder if the pain can also be seen from the outside.

"Why are you here at 4 a.m?" I ask softly. Despite the mirror is covered, Summer sees the broken pieces on the floor. Surprisingly, she says nothing. Instead, she comes closer and sits in front of me.

"Trust me, you better don't want to be alone."

"I do."

Summer points my knuckles. We stay in silence for a long minute until I break it.

"Seriously, why you care this much? We hardly know each other, tho."

She shrugs.

"I guess we were meant to meet each other as we're going through the same shit."

I hear the muffled laughter of my friends. It's like this house has two worlds, and I'm living in the dark one.

"Listen, I'm not gonna let you plunge into darkness." She stands up. "C'mon, get up."

I look at her eyes for the first time since she came. What the heck is she pretending?

I do what she says reluctantly.

"Now go to the bathroom and clean your hands."

"I don't know why I'm even paying attention to you." I mutter while washing my hands.

"And now go to sleep."

"Hey, you're not my mom."

"That's why you're gonna listen to me."

"I'm not tired."

"Wanna bet?"

When she became so annoying? My bedroom, my rules.

"If I go to bed then you leave. It'll be weird if you stay."

"That's fair." Cool. She watches me getting into bed.

"Are you also gonna check if I'm asleep?" I say with sarcasm.

"Shut up and try to sleep." Summer answers in a serene voice. Then she walks towards the door.

"Wait." I stop her. She turns around. "It's late."

"I thought you didn't want me to stay while you were sleeping." She frowns confused.

"No one uses the room next door. You can sleep there tonight."

"Oh. Umm, thanks but I think I'll better go home."

Hold on...

"Did you think I was asking you to sleep with me?" That's funny.

"I mean.., of course not..." She bubbles. I laugh.

"Summer, normalize two friends sleeping in the same bed." I pat the mattress. She keeps standing near the door, very probably considering what to do.

"You're right." She finally says. Then she takes off her shoes and gets into the bed, but in the very edge.

"Why this sudden change?"

"I told you: it's late. Plus, we're both gonna be sleeping and this is just for a few hours."

Summer nods and gets comfortable facing the window. I lie down face up.

"Nice room, by the way. In the end I've seen it." She giggles. I smile and close my eyes.

"Good night." I whisper. Summer turns around, now facing me. She doesn't respond, so I guess she fell asleep.
