Summer calls me and I finally go inside.
"Do you have some sort of trauma with this shop?" She jokes.
"No." I chuckle. I look around and I don't see Nolan, thanks God. If he was working he would greet me, so I would have to tell Summer. I'm not ashamed, it's just that I rather the customers to be strangers because that way I avoid my friends coming frequently just for fun. I know Summer wouldn't be like that, but anyways it isn't something I would wish to happen.
"What are you looking for, exactly?" I ask her. Obviously I know better than her and any other customer here where the different clothes are placed, so I will last less than a minute in getting what she wants.
Summer hums, thinking, while looking through some hoodies in hangers.
"A purple hoodie would be great. Or a dark zipped one."
"Copy." And I disappear from her sight in a second.
I get a purple hoodie and two zipped that she might like and proceed to show her. I search for her and, right when I found her, I stop for a second. She's talking with a guy, and I wouldn't be pissed off if it wasn't Kaleb the person who she's talking with. But, well, she didn't know him so I'm not angry with her, just with that fucking pain ass.
I leave the clothes next to me and I walk towards them. I don't want to make a scene here, so I'm gonna act like he's not my brother, as long as Kaleb can keep his mouth shut.
I clear my throat to interrupt them.
"Hey." I talk.
"Well, well, well." Kaleb looks at me with a mischievous smile.
"He just told me you know each other." Summer says.
"We're actually fa..."
"What are you doing here?" I stop him in a calm voice. He shrugs.
"Going for a walk."
Maybe we should talk in a more private place, in case it shows up certain topics I don't want Summer to know.
"Would you come outside?" I look at him and he scoffs.
"Why? I'm good here."
"Well, then, could you go anywhere else?" He's starting to try my patience.
He looks around, then at me. Then at Summer and back again at me.
"I mean, can I?" He laughs. He's so pathetic. "Fine, go and have fun with your new bitch."
He doesn't even have time to walk a step when I grab him by his sweater and I shove him against a mirror, breaking it. I immediately notice the attention I just provoke and, on top of that, in the shop where I work. Soon will appear my boss, recognize me and fire me. It's over, I can feel it.
Summer, dying of shame for being near the scene, looks at me in disapproval and confusion, then leaves without saying a word.
I let Kaleb free, but I don't apologize. He deserved it.
As I predicted, my boss came from the other side of the shop, his face red of anger and shame.
"Vinnie it was you?" He asks almost shouting. I don't answer. Just fire me already.
"Sir, this person just went mad, let me call the police." Kaleb intervenes. I clench my jaw containing myself into pushing him against the wall again.
"No, the last thing I want to do is to attract more people's attention. Are you OK?"
"Obviously not. He should..."
"Enough. Sir, I'll leave." I eventually speak.
"Are you aware that you're fired, right Hacker?"
"Yes."
Finally outside the establishment I'm surprised to see Summer sitting in a bench. I thought she left back home.
"I think I deserve to know." She says calmly. I nod.
"Alright, but let's go to another place."
