The birthday party is in five days. While playing some video games on the pc, I consider what to do. Summer has become a close friend in such short time that I don't really mind inviting her. But she might feel a stranger in a house she's never been, surrounded by people she doesn't know but me. Well, I can tell her to come with her friends. The guys are right: it's a freaking party, the more the better. That way they ignore me minding my business.
I text Summer and an hour later se answers accepting the invitation.
It's 4 p.m. Despite the fact that the party starts in three hours, Andy and some other friends of his already came. For the next hours I stay in the kitchen serving drinks to the people that were coming inside, but mostly to myself.
I think I just heard the door bell. I can't really tell because the music is too loud. It might have been my imagination, or the fact that I'm wasted. Probably both. I see Jordan walking across the people to the front door. Maybe I wasn't too wrong.
"Oh, hello! Come inside." Jordan moves and I see a small group of four people walking awkwardly inside the house. Summer and her friends are in the house. Fuck, I totally forgot they were coming. I'm too drunk to say hello now, so I go to the backyard. I hope Summer doesn't try to find me.
I get to make a getaway talking to a guy for some minutes. Summer sees me and calls my name while walking towards me. She's holding a red cup.
"Nice party. Whose birthday is it?"
I grab Summer by her wrist and walk some steps away.
"Why aren't you with your friends?" Her face drastically change from joy to unpleasant.
"Nice to see you again, too." She says sarcastically.
"Sorry." This is the reason why she shouldn't see me drunk: I tend to be really annoying, even if I don't mean to. All the bad vibes I have inside comes to the exterior with no filter.
"Are you drunk?"
I indicate with my fingers I'm a bit, which is a lie. I don't care people judging me, but for some reason I don't want to show her that side of me.
Suddenly Andy appears.
"Hey, wanna play the closet with the rest?"
"Don't you have a girlfriend, Andy?"
"Don't participating doesn't mean we're not gonna watch who goes inside the closet." He winks.
"I'm not gonna play stupid games." I roll my eyes.
"Maybe your friend wants." He inquires Summer with a look.
"I'll ask my friends to join."
Andy nods with satisfaction and then looks at me again.
"Still not want to play?"
I groan.
"Alright, but just because it's your birthday party and you're being very annoying."
We gather in the living room. If Summer wasn't here, I'd get the vodka bottle on the table. She's on the opposite couch, next to her girl friend and Ashley. Apparently they're introducing theirselves.
"Okay guys, you know the rules: spin the bottle twice and the two people selected go inside the closet for a minute. Everything is allowed." Justin seems really excited with this.
"Desperate, Justin?" I bother him. He answers sticking out his middle finger.
Neither Andy, Ashley, Jordan and Maddie are playing, so it's just me, Summer and her friends and some random people that decided to join.
Jordan spins the bottle twice and, yes, the first two people are me and Summer. What a cliché. Those present start cheering.
"Shut the fuck up." I stand up, and so does Summer. We go inside the damn closet and Jordan closes it.
"Enjoy lovebirds." He says right before locking us. I look at Summer.
"They really think we're about to do something." She whispers holding a laugh.
"What do you want to do?"
"Let's enjoy our minute of heaven, as if we were in our special places."
"I'm okay with it." I smile. Then we stare at each other for sixty seconds in complete silence. I hear our friends mumbling on the other side, but I don't pay attention at all.
"Time's up!" I hear Justin's shout.
"Let's pretend we did something. Just for fun." I say. Summer smiles and nods. Jordan opens the doors right after.
"So...?" Jordan looks at us mischievously.
"Yeah... I think we're not playing anymore. I'm gonna show Summer my room." Everyone shocks.
"Really?" She asks once we leave the room. I scratch the back of my neck.
"Well, if you're curious, I don't mind."
"Now I'm curious." She chuckles. With a head movement, I indicate her to follow me. We walk towards the stairs, although we don't make it to the end because I brake suddenly.
"What happens?" Summer inquires due to my abrupt stopping. I don't answer.
"Andy!!" I scream. Better he heard me.
Once more, Riley is right in front of me, five meters ahead. After my scream, she turns her head and looks at me, like everyone else. I call Andy again. Every second that passes, I get more and more angry. Plus, I'm not totally sober yet, so it doesn't help me to keep cool at all.
Finally Andy appears.
"What the fuck is she doing here?" I point at Riley. I don't give a shit if I lose my composure. He knows pretty well we don't get along since the breakup. Andy seems confused.
"Vinnie, I don't know. I would never..."
"I came on my own." Riley speaks. She seems unbothered.
"Get out. Now. You're not invited to this party." Despite the loud music, I know she heard me. But still she keeps standing close to me, defiant.
"You aren't gonna tell me what to do."
"Riley, what's the matter with you? Please, go." Andy orders her with calm voice, completely the opposite to me.
Riley looks at Andy, then at Summer. She smiles in a false way.
"Who is she, Vinnie?, your new girlfriend? You aren't that broken, despite all."
I take a step forward.
"She is not. But I don't have to explain anything to you. I repeat: Get. Out." I point the door with a finger.
"Whatever." Finally she walks away.
"Dude, I didn't know she was here." Andy says to me. I'm still angry, but calmer.
"It's okay. She left." Then I turn to Summer. Andy goes back to the living room.
"You and your friends should leave."
Summer crosses her arms.
"Because your ex got you agitated?"
"Yes." There's no reason to lie. I need to be alone. "I'll call you tomorrow."
"But..."
I shook my head in denial.
"Alright." She mutters.
