She warns her friends she's gonna stay with me while I text my friends. I didn't really were with them so long, so I don't think they'll notice I'm gone.
"This way." She informs me. We skate down the street. I know this area pretty well because I love its steep streets. If we continue straight we head downtown, where I thought we were going, but she turns right at an intersection, getting away from the city center.
We reach a rocky path, so we continue walking.
"Are you gonna murder me or something?" I say jockingly, as we are in the dark and I don't know where she's taking me. Literally, we left behind the streetlights, so we're lighting our way with our phone's flashlights.
She laughs.
"We're almost there."
She wasn't lying. In less than a minute, she stops. The only striking thing is a big rock in front of us.
"Wow, literally this is the nicest spot to commit a crime." I continue joking.
"Turn around Chandler." I get the Friend's reference and laugh. Then I do what she said and turn around. Oh. Now I see what has this place that special: from this angle it can be seen a great view of Los Angeles. Not all of it and as high as you could from the Hollywood sign, but still it impacts.
"I normally sit on this rock and think while looking at the city lights. It's relaxing."
"I bet it is." I confirm. "Didn't know about this place before."
"Well, now you know. If someday you wonder to come here, maybe you'll see me."
I chuckle and I look at her.
"And what do you think of?"
She keeps staring at the city.
"Well, it depends on the occasion. The last time I came here, last week, I was exhausted from college and I needed a little of disconnection. What about you?" She asks seconds later.
I sigh and I walk some steps. My shit is very personal and I find it hard to tell.
"I'll have to show you the place first." I decide. "It's not the same without knowing the vibe I'm surrounded by."
"True." She stands up. "I'm so intrigued." She smiles.
Fifteen minutes later, we made it to the abandoned mall.
"Wait. Is this the mall that closed down ten years ago?"
After she said that, I remember there was a mall where I used to go as a kid with my parents some weekends. Summer's right, this mall was open a long time ago.
"What do you think was the reason why they shut it down?" I say. She shrugs.
"I think because it opened a bigger one in the city center and a lot of people changed to go there."
"Or maybe because police found out it was a cover to deal drugs." I lift an eyebrow and curve my lips.
"Yeah, sure." She says ironically.
I guide her through the inside until the exterior stairs where I usually sit.
"Here."
"I have to admit this place have some spooky vibes that give chills." Summer crosses her arms. "You win."
I laugh.
"Was this a competition?" I joke.
She sits on a step and looks at me. I realize she's waiting for me to talk about what are my thoughts when I come to this place. I sit next to her, sigh and take a minute before starting.
"Well, as you said before, it depends on the occasion. Remember the other day that I told you I was feeling bad as fuck?" She nods. "I was here that afternoon. That day I saw my ex in a restaurant and she revived the shit. I broke up with her a few weeks ago"
I stay in silence for a while. Summer does the same. In some way, I feel confident talking with her about my inner stuff, more than I could expect.
Some minutes later, she breaks the silence and mutters:
"I lied before."
I look at her, confused.
"College wasn't the principal motive why I went to the hill. My boyfriend broke up with me that day."
