The last few days of their holiday flew by. Jason and Anna grew even closer. Their time together seemed even more precious now.
Anna knew that once they got back home that they would have to tell the others that they were together. She knew that she had to make sure that Howard knew first. She didn't want him to find out about her and Jason from anyone else. There was also someone else she needed to tell, Chris.
Chris had long had deep feelings for Jason, but they had never been returned. Over the last couple of years, she had come to accept it and the two of them had developed a deep and affectionate friendship. She had seemed to be really happy with this, but was still single. Anna hoped that the news of their newly formed relationship wouldn't upset her. She thought that maybe Chris still harboured some hope that eventually one day their friendship could grow into something else.
These thoughts were running through her mind as they had often been over the last couple of days as she lay on one of the sun loungers by the side of the pool. She was trying to read a book as Maisie was taking a nap. A spray of water suddenly landed on her stomach, making her jump!
"What the..?" she began as she sat up, brushing the water from her skin. She looked over and found Jason grinning at her. "What did you do that for?" she asked him, shaking her head at him.
"You've been staring at the same page for twenty minutes now!" he laughed at her. "Not once have you turned over!"
"How do you know that, you've been swimming! How can you tell?" she retorted.
"Well have you?" he asked, pulling himself up on the side of the pool and leaning over towards her.
"Ok, you're right," she admitted as she looked him up and down, glad she had her sunglasses on which hid her eyes. He stood up now, grabbing a towel and drying the worst of the wetness off his body. She gazed at the gorgeous sight before her. Long and lean with just the right amount of muscle, his skin a golden honey colour now. She remembered from the night before how it had felt to be held against that hard chest, his arms wrapped tightly around her. She swallowed quickly, her stomach feeling as if butterflies had suddenly taken flight inside. He spread the towel over the lounger at the side of her and lay down on his side, his head supported against his hand as he looked at her expression.
"Take them off!" he commanded her suddenly.
"You what?" she asked in surprise, "take what off?"
"The glasses! I hate not being able to see you properly when I'm talking to you. I want to see your eyes!"
Obediently she did as he asked her, folding the sunglasses and placing them on the ground at the side of the lounger.
"Right come on then, what's on your mind? What are you fretting about now?" he asked her. "Because you are aren't you? I can tell."
Anna sighed and put her book to one side. She knew that he wouldn't give up until she told him.
"I'm bothered what's going to happen when we get back home and tell people about me and you," she said finally. "How they're going to react."
"You mean how Dougie is going to react?" he said. He sat up and took her hands in his. "I've told you, we'll tell him together. I'm not going to let you face him on your own. What kind of bloke do you think I am if I'd let you do that? Don't worry, it'll be ok," he told her stroking down the side of her face and smiling at her.
"I wish I could be so sure as you," she told him, placing her arms over his shoulders and kissing him softly. "I didn't like what happened when we told him that we were going on holiday. We said then that there was nothing going on between us. Now there is. He'll think that we were lying to him."
