Jason lowered his head as he fought to control his emotions.  He took a deep breath and looked around the table at the four remaining.  Gary and Mark were watching him anxiously, hoping that he wouldn't break down in front of them.  His pain was all too visible to see.

"I'll just go and make us some coffee then," he told them as he began to leave the room, trying to buy some time to be alone.

"Want some help?" offered Sandy, getting up to do so.  Gary shook his head, his hand reaching for hers to pull her back down into her seat again.

"No, it's alright, I can manage," he replied his voice shaking.  "You stay here, I'll do this."  He managed a half smile as he disappeared through the door.

Going into the kitchen, Jason turned the percolator on and placed six cups on six saucers.  Taking the cream from the fridge he placed it onto the tray along with spoons and sugar.  Then he pulled out a chair and sat down, his head in his hands and let the tears begin to fall.

"Please don't let her go," he said out loud, his shoulders shaking as he cried.  He had always known that Anna had loved Howard in a different way to the way that she loved him.  But he'd thought that Howard was over her, that they had become just friends now.  Now he knew that he'd just been fooling himself, hiding his head in the sand.  The way they had looked at each other, it was plain to see.  They were still in love.  He'd lost her just when things had been going so well.  He couldn't blame Howard for asking her to go with him, not if he still loved her the way he thought he did.  There was nothing he could do now except wait for her to come back and tell him that she was leaving him.

Anna looked up and down the street, her face quickly becoming wet with the rain that was falling.  She finally picked him out, standing leaning against a tree several yards down the street, his foot against the tree trunk, his shoulders hunched, studying the patterns the rain was making in the rapidly forming puddles on the ground.

"Howard!" she called as she ran down the street towards him, the umbrella she was carrying becoming useless as it was blown inside out.  His head came up at the sound of her voice, his face lighting up at the sight of her.

"Anna!" he cried, holding his arms out to her as she ran into them.  They held each other tightly, oblivious to the increasing downpour.

Anna could feel her heart pounding in her chest as she pressed herself against him, feeling the heat from his body.  He opened his parka and wrapped it around her, enveloping her in its warmth.

"Anna," he repeated in a whisper, making her turn her face up towards him.  His lips found hers, moving over them possessively.  She moaned softly, tasting his sweet, soft warm lips.  Their kiss seemed to last forever.  Neither wanting it to end, their arms holding the other a willing prisoner.

Finally they broke apart, gazing into each other's eyes.  Not a trace of a flicker or flutter in his as he told her once more that he loved her.

"I wasn't sure that you'd come to me," he told her, his breath warm against her as she leaned against his chest, taking in his touch, his smell, the way he felt as he held her against him.  "I hoped you would, and you did."

"Tell me that you didn't mean it.  About going away for so long," she pleaded with him.  "You can't do that.  Don't go How.  What will I do if you go?"

"I can't stay here.  Not the way things are," he told her.  He cupped her face in his hands, looking deep into her eyes.  "It's tearing me apart being so close to you, wanting you so badly and seeing you with another man.  One of my best friends.  I have to go away.  Come with me Anna, please.  Let's start again somewhere on our own, away from all this.  Let's get our lives back, be a family again.  You, me and the kids.  I love you, you know I do.  Please Anna."
