HAILEY'S P.O.V
"Could you please tell me again how this was happening?"
Mom, you know my Mom, has been asking the same question to me and Toby for the last 2 hours. We finally made it home this afternoon. I mean my house. Toby helped me to walk.
"It's Sean, Mom...the girl that I told you on our first day at the hotel. She's Sean, that I lately discovered also becoming our classmate." I explained.
"I'm truly sorry, I should've watched Hailey better than this." Toby bowed his head.
"Hey it's okay. It's in girls toilet. You could do nothing either." I whispered to him.
"No Toby it's not what I meant. I mean this Sean girl, how could she be that rude? I want to prosecute her because she phsyically bullied you." Mom took her phone and texted someone.
"Mommy, isn't it too far? She's however just a high school student." I tried to stop her.
"No honey, this is the right thing to do. People will learn from this." Mom walked to her room because somebody just called her.
I exchanged my glance with Toby. We were statued in the kitchen's bar without knowing what to do. Mom was a law student back in college so you know that she knows what to do. Before we walked home, Toby told me that maybe prosecuting Sean would be a good idea. She's 16. At least she could get some social punishment. Because he said that Sean has been a nightmare to other students in that school. Even worst, in 8th grade, Sean once bullied a student til that kid dropped out of the school. But one thing I keep thinking in mind, is Sean actually likes Toby. Now, just recently, Toby and I made our relationship official. How could we stop Sean if all she wants is to keep hurting me because she demands Toby?
"I think this is right." Toby held my hands. "Just let your Mom decide."
"But wouldn't it be too much, considering I'm the new student?" I whispered.
"Maybe it's you who can stop her. Maybe after this time, people were scared of prosecuting her, until it hits you."
"I don't want to be seen as a complainant. That'd be lame." I rolled my eyes.
"Oh jeez baby, it's not going to be that far. I'll keep you safe. Whoever tells you that, they can meet me at the school backyard to fix some stuff." Toby winked.
"Thank you..." I smiled. Then we got interrupted by Mom.
"I've spoken to your granita's lawyer. He'll get the report in by tomorrow morning." Mom smiled.
"Granita's lawyer? How far." I murmured. Granita is the lovely nickname for my grandma. She lives in Santa Barbara. "Alright then, alright."
"Good. Don't worry Hails, you'll be okay. I'm sure Toby will keep you safe." Mom smiled to us both.
"Well noted, Mommy." Toby rubbed my shoulders.
"Okay kids, off to go. Change your clothes first. I'll call you when dinner's ready." She hugged me.
We nodded to Mom and slowly walked to my room. Oh thank goodness I don't have a big house. With this bruises on my legs, at least I didn't get much trouble to get into my own room. I asked Toby to come in. It's his first time too checking on my room. He soon noticed the guitar.
"My girlfriend surely has a great taste." He smirked.
"Oh shush, it's just guitar. Aaaand it's odd to be called 'girlfriend', really."
"Hmm, why not? You are my girlfriend now. In case people didn't know that."
"Tobes you're sassy. Hahaha. Yeah..."
"Can I ask you something?" He grabbed my hand when I'm done changing my clothes to a more comfy one.
"Sure."
"Am I your first?"
"First...what?" I chuckled.
"Everything. Boyfriend, and...kiss?"
"Oh uhm...if I answer the honest one, I bet you'd still be that sassy." I laughed. "But yeah, you kinda are."
"I love you. Thank you for saying yes." He pecked my lips.
"Thank you for asking too." I winked. "But I guess I wasn't the one, huh?"
"You're...actually not my first girlfriend. Yeah I got one few years ago. But to be honest, you're my first kiss." He giggled.
"Eh what?" I turned around, almost dropped my phone. "What about that girl from years ago?"
"He broke up with me after 3 days... Hahaha... Never mind. We were 13. That was hillarious." Toby laughed, literally rolling on my bed.
"That's...haha should I be proud or something?" I slowly sit on my bed.
"Maybe yeah. Because this time, I mean it." He stared at me with those brown eyes. "I'm lucky you're my girlfriend, New Yorker."
"Oh shut up. Don't mess up with me." I messed his hair.
"Hey I'm proud. Look, we're so cool. We just met each other probably a week ago, including the beach and grocery store stuff that I count pretty much mysterious. Then we end up here. Together. That's insane but I love it."
"Haha yeah me too. And indeed, you looked mysterious back then." I smirked.
"Or embarrased. Because I soon ran outside and hid behind Connor." He asked me to cuddle inside the blanket. "Either way, I love you."
"Either way, I love you too." I buried my head against his chest.
So this is how it feels when you have a boyfriend. I didn't know that. I didn't know anything. Didn't ever imagine that Florida could bring me a Florida boy. Didn't realize that somewhat I'm starting to enjoy sunshine more than rain. The New York memory has slowly faded away. I can accept who I am now, the new version of me in this new town with a complete different condition. I've stopped blaming Mom for making us leave New York. They said you gotta move on. So I am moving on. And it's just even better, knowing you have all-time partner supporting your back.
