Jennie got the homework back that Taehyung helped her with. It was her first A in that class all year. There was no way she would have done so well if she hadn't reworked the entire thing without his help.

She considered texting him twice to thank him. But she didn't. She recalled stating their break and she wasn't going to be the one to give in and text him. Normally he would be proud of her, but she just didn't feel like Taehyung would be too ecstatic to be talking to her just yet.

The next day was the last cheer meet of the season.

All the girls went to a party at Yeri's house to celebrate. A couple of weeks ago a party at Yeri's house would have been pretty low on her list of things she'd like to do. But Jennie was looking forward to hanging out with Rosie.

It was this party, or stay home alone and avoiding Taehyung.

"It would have been nice to make it to the championships at least once before we graduated." Rosie said.

She and Jennie were curled up on the floor playing with Yeri's Golden Retriever.

Unfortunately, their cheer team didn't do well enough to compete to a higher level.

"Yeah, maybe. But I like having time off. Especially during the holidays." Jennie wasn't bothered by their low ranking.

Thinking it over, cheering wasn't something she was actually passionate about. But she didn't have anything to look forward to during the holidays anymore. Those days would consist of spending time with Taehyung.

Jennie spun her body around to hearing Yeri talking about going on a movie date with her own private school man.

Yeri and Taehyung were going to a movie?

Jennie couldn't disguise her hurt. She understood that he wasn't hers anyways. Never been.

She felt bad for her Pop. He would have to play an easy board game of chess with her instead of actual competition with Tae.

"Hey—you have to take everything she says with a grain of salt. You know that." Jennie looked up to watch Rosie's lips speak with a soft voice. Her world was spinning.

"It's fine. I told you, we weren't together. I'm gonna go home. I'll see you on Monday."

Jennie fled to her car.

During dinner, Jennie kept glancing out the window to see if any extra cars were at Taehyung's driveway. Perhaps Yeri's yellow mini volkswagon.

She didn't see any extra cars, but it didn't make her feel any better.

At school, Jennie tried to be her usual cheerful self. It wasn't fair that Taehyung could ruin school days for her as well as her weekends.

Putting on a face was hard to pull off.

She was pretty sure that no one was buying it.

During lunch, Yeri kept hinting at her evening plans, trying to bait her into asking what they were. She was getting fed up with sitting at the cheer table with Yeri that she started taking her lunch outside under a shady tree.

She sometimes skipped lunch and studied at the library.

After school, Jennie was too busy to notice if Taehyung's car was in the driveway or not. Her Mom and Dad were going to regret all their eating out when their blood pressures were through the roof. So she started going to the grocery store and started cooking her parents dinner.
