"Am I going to regret accepting these?" Taehyung arrived home, seeing Jennie in his kitchen, holding a homemade macaron.
It was Wednesday, and Jennie hesitated at asking Taehyung to come along at the hospital.
"What? A girl can't.. bake super difficult pastries for her best friend?" Jennie grinned at him, taunting the tray of goods as she passed by him to the stairs going up his room.
"Well. Gee. If you put it that way." He deadpanned, following after her and plopping into the bed beside her.
He grabbed a macaron anyway.
"Can you help me with my homework?"
"You're good at math." Taehyung was skeptical. "What do you really need Jennie?"
"Okay mister smarty pants. It just so happens I'm getting a C in English literature, and you're good at writing papers. I just need your help proofreading." Jennie pulled out her laptop from her backpack.
Taehyung nodded, a bit skeptical but didn't say another word.
They worked alongside each other for the next hour. Occasionally, Taehyung would correct or comment on her paper, making side notes at the document.
Jennie stayed for dinner, Taehyung's mom bringing up their plates to his room.
"Jennie! It's been a while. Where have you been hiding?" She placed the plates at Taehyung's desk.
Sitting up, Jennie began to put her hair in a ponytail. Taehyung watching closely.
"I guess senior year is really making me busy."
"I understand. Taehyung's been busy too. Seems just like yesterday I was taking care of the both of you and watching you guys play tag in the backyard."
"Mom..." Taehyung groaned and Jennie couldn't hide the smile on her face. Ms. Kim was always sentimental, and it embarrassed Taehyung, but Jennie's parents weren't home often and she thought it was nice.
"Okay. Well anyway, how's the carnival at the hospital going Jen?" She leaned against the doorframe. "I hear it's going to be bigger this year."
"What carnival?" Taehyung side eyed Jennie. "I didn't know you were doing something at the hospital."
Busted.
"Oh well... we do a fundraising event at school for the children's hospital. Last year when it happened you were up town with your dad, so... I couldn't bring you along. Actually, do you want to come with me?"
"Literature paper my ass." Taehyung got up, the bed rocking with Jennie on top of it.
Grabbing his plate off the desk, he stormed off downstairs.
Ms. Kim didn't take notice of the obvious tension between the two, smiling as she followed after Taehyung to convince him to join her. "Taehyung you should tag along with Jennie tomorrow."
After a few minutes, Taehyung came back upstairs to see Jennie curled up in his bed, her food untouched.
"Really Jen?" He picked up her plate and brought to her at his bed. "I don't see why you needed to bribe me to talk to me. I would love to help you out at the hospital. I don't need bribing. Even without the boyfriend pretense."
Jennie pouted. Eyeing the plate of food.
He placed some on a fork to feed her.
