New Years breezed by and all the holiday decorations were put away.

Taehyung never called.

When school started that following week, Rosie apologized about a dozen times for stepping over boundaries and calling Taehyung.

Jennie never mentioned how difficult it might've been if he had never came to be there during the funeral and viewing.

It wasn't because she wanted Rosie to feel guilty or anything. She just couldn't bare to have any conversation that revolved around Taehyung. It made her heart and head ache.

She resolved that if he cared about fixing things between them, he would've called.

Just two weeks into the school year, Jennie allowed Rosie to drag her to a party. Rosie explained that it would be the last free weekend before cheering practices would begin again.

So, Jennie agreed to meet her at the party, only because she could change her mind willingly if she didn't carpool.

However, pulling into the driveway of her house that evening, she noticed Hobi's car, her disappointment looming.

Rosie was too perceptive and somehow knew of Jennie's flaking out.

__

The party should have been fun. Jennie used to enjoy socializing and letting loose. A few months ago, she would have been making small talk with close friends and catching up, but now, she just saw a bunch of people trying too hard.

Somewhere in the crowd, Hobi and Rosie were dancing as she broke free from the congestion to wander off into another room looking for drinks.

"Beer, Jen?"

Stupidly, Jennie spun around hoping to see Taehyung.

It was Kai.

He stood at the doorway, smiling as he held out a red cup of beer to her.

"That isn't a nickname I tolerate from just anyone." Jennie replied coldly, her eyes piercing at him.

Kai ignored her cold demeanor. "Let's be friends again, Jennie." He slouched against the door frame, still holding out the can of beer to her. "Do you wanna dance?"

"No." Jennie moved to walk past him.

He sidestepped to block her way. "Yeri said Taehyung dropped you, huh?" She halted in her tracks just in time before she could bump into him. "I think you and I should give it another go." He looked up thoughtfully before he continued, "Prom is only a few months away, you know."
