Maylin had always seen herself as normal, normal parents, normal school troubles, and normal hobbies. She went to a normal college, had a normal part time job to pay her bills and was studying to be a cooking teacher for normal students. Growing up Maylin was in a normal two parent household at least until her first year of college when her parents were taken from her in a car crash. The one thing that she was not prepared for was something strange and abnormal to happen to her, something that could not be explained. In fact in the twenty one years that she had been alive nothing out of the normal had happened, even for a college student she was boring. She didn't party or go out at night, she didn't go out to clubs for one night stands or even look a boyfriend because she was too busy with her studies to do any of that sort of stuff. What Maylin didn't know was that her normal lifestyle would be turned upside down in just one day, a simple accident that changed everything in her whole life sending her into a spiral of abnormal things.

"Miss Hanley could I ask for a moment of your time?" asked Professor Bryan, the English professor at the college that I attended. He had simple short brown hair and brown eyes and wore a well taken care of suit though he didn't have the jacket on at the moment because of the heat.
"What can I help you with sir?" I asked, curious what the professor could want since classes were over for the day but then again I had always been seen as a teacher's pet. I was labelled that because I tended to help the teachers out with the things that they needed me for as well as the fact that I was always asking them for tips after all I wanted to be a teacher.
"Well Professor Sara is going on maternity leave tomorrow today was her last day and she forgot her laptop in the staff room, I don't want to be a bother but could you run it to her room for me?" Professor Bryan asked, holding out the slick black laptop. Professor Sara was another of my teachers, she taught mathematics. She had long strawberry-blonde hair that reached her hips and blue eyes and she was one of my favorite teachers. I was going to miss her but at the same time I was happy, she and her husband had been trying for three years to have a child and now their dream was coming true.
"Sure I wanted to go and wish her well anyway so I don't mind" I said with a smile as I took the laptop.
"Thank you I will let her know that you are heading that way so that she doesn't leave" said Professor Bryan and I nodded as I left out of the building. The college that I attended wasn't large but at the same time it wasn't small either. There were four different buildings, the first was the facility building where the teachers office's were as well as meeting rooms and such. The second building was where most classes and lectures would take place in, Professor Sara's classroom was located here as well as Professor Bryan's. Thirdly there was the building that practical lessons were given such as cooking or science experiments. Finally the last building was split into two sides with walkway bridges connecting it, it was the on site dorms one side being boys and the other girls there were no frat houses in this college. There was also a large oval and gym along with an agricultural farm. I was one of the lucky students to be here on a full scholarship and I lived off campus as well in a small apartment but that was fine for me after all it was just me.

Before I realized it I was at Professor Sara's classroom so I reached up and knocked on the door hoping that she hadn't left yet.
"Come in" called Professor Sara and I opened the door only to freeze in place at who I saw with her. It was Charlie Wolven, one of the most popular guys on campus, all the girls wanted to date him and guys wanted to be him. To tell you the truth I was one of the former, I had a small crush on Charlie and had ever since he had helped me in my first year of college with an assignment though he probably didn't remember now after all I was nothing special. His sandy blonde hair was styled to look like he just rolled out of bed and I would have thought that, that was what happened if it wasn't the same every day. While he had muscles he was more like a swimmer then a bodybuilder and his tan made me believe that he spent every day on the beach but I knew that wasn't true. The thing that captivated me the most though was his green eyes that looked like they were made of emeralds and something that had always caught me off guard was that his pupils weren't like most people's, they had slits much like a cat or snake.
"Congratulations once more and thank you for the help" said Charlie with a charming smile that made my knees weak and I almost swooned but I held it in as he walked past me and left.
"Ah, how can I help you Maylin?" Professor Sara inquired.
"Oh right, Professor Bryan asked me to bring your laptop up to you since I wanted to say a final good bye and congratulate you again" I said with a smile and she nodded while taking the laptop.
"I must have forgotten it after my last lecture thank you for bringing it to me, that reminds me I wanted to see you before I left anyway" said Professor Sara turning and picking her bag onto the desk so that she wouldn't have to bend down to go threw it since she already a six month baby bump.
"I know that a teacher shouldn't really say this but you and Charlie are my favorite students, you are both so kind and polite and always pay attention in classes, I wanted to give you this before I left so I'm glad I saw you again" said Professor Sara as she handed me an envelope and business card.
"This is your business card" I said looking at the phone number and email address on it, a little confused as to why she was giving this to me, after all I was only one in hundreds of students that she had taught over the years she had been a teacher.
"Yes it is and in that envelope is my recommendation. After all you are studying to be a teacher aren't you? Well you will need teachers to recommend you when you go for your first job so I will happily be one of them and when you finally graduate and are ready to go for a job let me know. I have a few friends that are looking for Home Economics teachers and they would be lucky to have such a kind student join their staff" Professor Sara smiled and I was speechless. In all the years that I had been going to school no teacher had ever actually been so invested in my future, even my Home Economics teacher wasn't this invested in my future.
"Thank you, I can't thank you enough for this. I mean no one has ever" I whispered feeling myself getting choked up so I closed my eyes and counted to ten to calm myself down.
"I know but you deserve it and I won't take it back so there you can't return it. You should be heading out now, I remember you mentioning that you have work today right? And it is starting to get a little late so make sure you stay safe" said Professor Sara and I looked at the time before bidding her goodbye and leaving. By the time I had gotten the books that I needed from my locker most of the teachers had already gone home and the students in the dorms were heading to their rooms for the night so the college grounds were mostly empty. At least that was what I thought until I turned around a corner and hit something hard. I couldn't believe what I had just done but when I looked up at what I had run into it made my disbelief double. I had run straight into Charlie's chest making me drop my books on the ground.
"Sorry" I managed to get out and I hoped that I wasn't blushing as much as it felt like I was as I bent down to get my books.
"My fault, I should have been watching where I was going" said Charlie, bending down to help me with my books, making me blush even harder. When we finished getting the books we stood there. I couldn't find anything to say or do so I just stood there blushing silently and Charlie was looking to the side away from me so I guess he was feeling just as awkward as I was.
"I should," I said, gesturing to the doors that were behind Charlie and he nodded before moving to the side so I could walk straight to the door.
"Maylin, you should hurry home and don't talk to any strangers after all these days a woman can never be too careful" Charlie advised before he strode off. His comment was a little confusing as I mulled it over while walking to the gate. Along with confusion it also made me rather angry and upset. Did he honestly think that I was in grade school? I mean I was a fully grown woman that had been brought up to be careful, so of course I wasn't going to listen or talk to any strangers. There was also the fact that it showed he knew who I was and cared about what could happen to me which made my heart pound. Deciding to put that behind me for now I headed to Cafe Cocoa. It was where I worked part time after classes and on the weekend after all I needed to afford food and rent.
