Chapter 7, Maylin
Everyone was still celebrating their 'victory' over the Wolven clan but I really couldn't bring myself to see it as a victory or be happy about it. The elders had fed the police a lie about a bomb and then using their abilities to change the memories of those that were attacked or had run away from the attack so that they would believe it was a terrorist attack. After that they had taken me to my apartment and told me to pack my things up since I would now be living in the clan compound. Once we got to the compound I unpacked my stuff in the room I had been assigned and then flopped onto the bed but getting to sleep was impossible. Every time I closed my eyes I saw the numerous amounts of injuries or dead classmates and Professors.
The next morning when I dragged myself out of bed I freshened up before heading downstairs and I could already feel a headache coming since they were still celebrating while I was exhausted from not sleeping.
"What is the matter? You don't seem too happy" observed Alan as he came and sat next to me where I was sitting at the dining room table.
"Honestly I don't see anything to be happy about, a lot of people got hurt and others died and it was all because of me" I sighed my head down and he hummed.
"You can't think about it like that it wasn't your fault, if you want to blame someone then the Wolven clan is to blame for starting the attack in the first place" said Tracey as she walked over to me. It seemed that Elizabeth was still helping the injured out.
"With you leading us now we don't have to worry about so many attacks now so the injuried and death counts will be down" Tracey smiled. Once again they were insisting that I would be a good leader without caring about what I was feeling. I didn't even know anything about the supernatural world or the other creatures other than Naga's, Bird shifters and Blood pixie's. As it was the information that I had on them was limited since it was only what the internet could tell me and the few things that the Aven Elders had told me.
"I still don't see what you guys see in me, I know nothing about any of this, you would be better off finding someone else" I tried once more to convince them.
"It has nothing to do about knowledge or skill, it's in your blood to lead, just as your mother did before you" said Alan.
"Why is it so important to even have a leader? I mean you haven't had a leader for a while so why are you insisting on having a leader now?" I asked confused and I saw them trading looks.
"We didn't want to tell you before because we didn't want to put pressure on you but all the people here are only about half of the clan, the others have all been killed by the Wolven clan" said Alan.
"In clans having a leader means you are strong and no one would dare to attack you but if you lose that leader without a successor people will lose hope along with their will to fight so they give up and get killed without putting up a true fight" said continued Tracey.
"If the Aven clan doesn't have a leader and is wiped out the whole world would be at stake, you saw them today they didn't hesitate to attack innocent people all because they wanted to get to you" said Alan. I could tell what they said was true if the Aven clan hadn't been there Charlie and his family would have killed all of the people at the college trying to get to me. Now that they put it that way I really didn't have a choice I would have to lead the clan if only to hopefully reduce the casualties of innocent people.
"Now you understand why we are so insistent to have you as our leader, you need to lead us and put an end to the Wolven clan before they kill us, it is a kill or be killed world that we live in" said Alan, his voice softening.
"Very well, I will be the clan leader but you will have to teach me everything that I need to know and I am not going to give up going to college or my part time job just for this clan" I said and they nodded.
"We can start your training tomorrow, for now why don't you look around the compound, introduce yourself to the others, I am sure it will lift their spirits" suggested Tracey with a smile and I nodded before leaving to do just that.Walking around the compound I realised that it was bigger than I thought and there were more people then I thought as well.
"Look it's Princess Maylin" smiled one of the younger children that was in a group of five.
"You don't need to call my Princess, just Maylin is fine okay" I requested as they looked at me with their eyes shining.
"You're really pretty" burbled out one of the two boys before he blushed bright red as he realized what he had said.
"Thank you, you are rather handsome yourself so what were you kids doing before I got here?" I asked, gaining an even brighter blush from the boy.
"We were playing tag, do you want to join us?" whispered one of the girls who appeared to be shy.
"I would love to but it seems that you have me at a disadvantage seeing as you all know my name but I don't know yours how about we start there" I said and they beamed.
"I'm Lilin and this is my twin Lacy she is really shy so I have to stick up for her a lot but that's what sisters are for," said one of the girls, they both had pale skin, blonde hair and yellow eyes but Lacy's hair was pulled back in a pony tail and Lilin's was in a braid. Lacy was wearing a pink frilly top with a white skirt while Lilin was wearing a light blue shirt with a pair of denim shorts. Even though they were twins it was easy to see that they were a lot different from one another.
"I'm Mary and if you are a Princess are you sure you should be playing with us? I mean won't you get dirty or even hurt?" asked the last girl who had tanned skin, red hair that was let down to her shoulders, green eyes and glasses. She was wearing a purple shirt and a pair of pink three quarter pants.
"Well since I am the Princess that means that I can do what I want and since I want to play tag with you guys then that's what I'll do" I reassured her.
"I'm Thomas but everyone just calls me Tom but since you are so pretty I will let you call me Tommy" smiled the young charmer, his blue eyes sparkling with happiness and his brown hair was cut short. Tommy was wearing a red singlet with a pair of khaki pants that were camo coloured.
"You can call me Gary," said the last child, his yellow eyes glinting with mischief and his brown hair reaching his shoulders. He was wearing a black T-shirt and a pair of three quarter cargo pants that were gray and looked to have a lot of pockets.
"Now that we know each other, how about we start that game you offered" I said and they nodded as we all got ready since Tommy was going to be it. We continued to play well into the day and I couldn't help the wide smile that appeared on my face from the squeals of joy and laughter from the children. They were so innocent even though they were Bird shifters and probably saw death more times then they could count they were still innocent and I couldn't help but hope that they stayed that way a little longer.
"Kid's it is time for lunch....Oh Princess Maylin I didn't realise that you were here with them sorry if I interrupted" said a girl around my age. She had black hair with two red streaks in the left side of the fringe and her eyes matched the red. She was wearing a red t-shirt that matched her hair streaks, a black ruffle skirt with a pair of dark leggings and a pair of black combat books.
"Oh no, it's okay you didn't interrupt and please just call me Maylin I don't need to be called Princess" I said trying to act normal after all I seemed to always act nervous around girls my own age since I never really got along with them.
"Cool I'm Kerri, Gary is my younger brother and I tend to look after this group of kids while their parents are busy fighting all the time, sorry if they bothered you" apologised Kerri.
"They weren't bothering me at all probably the other way around seeing as I imposed on their game of tag" I smiled and she smiled as the kids instantly jumped to my defence denying any such thing.
"You guys should be going, you call them for lunch didn't you?" I questioned.
"Why don't you join us? If you aren't busy I mean and if you are I am sure that I can wrap some up for you" offered Kerri.
"Please stay," said Lilin, looking at me with pleading eyes.
"Well I had planned to continue to walk around and meet more people but I am sure that I can take a break from lunch" I said with a smile as I heard even shy little Lacy give out a shout of joy."Make sure to wash your hands" yelled Kerri as the kids ran into the house.
"Managed to get the brats huh?" called a male voice making Kerri roll her eyes.
"You're mean Justin" pouted Tommy making me have to hide my laugh from how adorable he looked.
"Yeah why can't you be nice like the pretty big sister" said Gary stomping his foot in frustration.
"Pretty big sister? I know you can't mean Kerri" the male well Justin asked.
"Guess they are talking about you, you must have really made a good impression on them" smiled Kerri while I blushed a little.
"Brought someone with you?" Justin asked and poked his head around from what I was guessing was the dining room. Justin had black hair and yellow eyes plus he was rather built probably from training or fighting. He was wearing a gray singlet with a pair of denim three quarter pants that suited him, he was actually rather good looking. As soon as I thought of that I shoved it out of my head, not only did I not have time for that sort of thing but I still hadn't give up my chances on Charlie even if we were in different clans.
"You must be the one that everyone is talking about, the fair Princess Maylin" teased Justin walking over to drop to his knees and grab my hand to kiss it.
"Oi Romeo, she prefers just Maylin and stop trying to make her swoon or I'll make sure you swoon once I hit you with my fist" glared Kerri making me shiver a little. It was obvious that it wasn't just the males of the Aven clan that fought but also the females.
"Make yourself at home and ignore that idiot, unfortunately for both him and us he was born that way" said Kerri and I nodded sitting down. It had been a while since I had as much fun as I did while eating lunch. Normally I had an assignment due or I had to work extra shifts to keep up with rent and then of course all this supernatural mess happened so I was happy to just have a normal lunch and just forget everything from the last two days. Kerri and Justin were constantly fighting like an old married couple while I was convincing the kids to eat their salads. For a while I wondered if I would be able to protect them and keep them innocent so that we could have lunch together again soon but maybe next time with the kids parents.
