Chapter 6, Maylin

These people expect me to just agree to become the clan head and jump straight into fighting some sort of war. I didn't even know these people and they wanted me to drop everything and fight for them even though I dislike fighting. Sure I knew a little self-defence but that was only at my Dad's insistence since I was moving to go to college he wanted me to be able to protect myself if something should happen. Plus it didn't work against Derek so it wouldn't work against any supernatural creature since they had superior strength and speed.
"Look I don't know about this becoming the head of a clan, shouldn't someone else more qualified be the head? I only found out about supernatural creatures yesterday plus I don't even know anything about this Aven clan so how can you expect me to be able to lead this clan" I pointed out.
"How careless of us, we should have explained more about the clan to you" said Alan.
"The whole of the Aven clan has the abilities of birds meaning we can change into birds or part birds" explained Tracey and I sighed. That wasn't exactly the point I was trying to get across to them so I would just have to try again to get them to see that I didn't want to lead the Aven clan.
"Well I can't turn into a bird or anything like that, I am a normal human girl so you should probably try and find a better person to be the leader" I tried to explain.
"Your parents put a type of seal on you so your creature side is just sleeping for now, hopefully we will be able to break that seal then you can awaken into your creature side and then you be just like the rest of the Aven clan" Elizabeth waved off my excuse.
"I was trying to be polite since you're older than me but since you aren't getting it I am going to come out and say it. I'm sorry but I am not going to be the next head of anything let alone a clan of bird creatures that I know nothing about" I said and I saw that they were about to argue so I put my hand up.
"Not only that but I don't like fighting or violence, in fact I don't even like raised voices very much so I would be useless in some sort of war against another clan" I said as I got up.
"Where are you going?" demanded Elizabeth frowning.
"I have a lecture to attend so I can pass my college course so please excuse me" I said heading for the door.
"You should rethink this Maylin you are close to breaking the seal on your powers so they will awaken soon hence why those creatures attacked you" warned Tracey.
"What do you mean?" I asked, they kept talking about some sort of awakening and some how I didn't think they were talking about waking from a dream.
"Your creature side is coming to the front and because both your parents were strong creatures you will be as well, this will make you irresistible for other creatures that feast on humans or other creatures" said Alan.
"That may be so but I still won't lead your clan now please excuse me" I said ignoring any other protests as I left.

Once outside I hailed a taxi and headed to my apartment before asking the driver to wait for a moment. Racing up the steps I grabbed my school books for the day and then headed back down glad he waited. We made small talk as he drove seeing as he had a daughter around my age. Thanking the driver after we pulled up I paid him heading into the campus glad that I was here with time to spare before my first class. I already knew that today was going to be hard, I could barely concentrate on anything with everything that was going on. Yesterday I was just a regular hard working college student hoping to be a home economics teacher. Now though I had been attacked by a Blood pixie, saved by Charlie who was a Naga and now I was being pulled into a clan of bird shifters that were in a war with Charlie's family that they expected me to join. Sighing I headed to my first class hoping that I would concentrate a little bit
"Maylin" I heard and I jumped a little seeing Professor Bryan appear in front of me.
"Is something wrong? You have been distracted all lesson and haven't taken any notes at all" said Professor Bryan and I blushed embarrassed.
"Sorry Professor, I am just a little tired since I stayed up late last night studying and finishing some assignments" I lied. Don't get me wrong I didn't normally lie to anyone but I couldn't just tell him about the supernatural world, there was no way he would believe me so he would think I was crazy and that is the last thing I needed right now.
"Okay then but if anything is bothering you, you can talk to me or the other teachers, if you feel too tired visit the nurses office and try not to stay up too late" Professor Bryan advised and I nodded waving as he left for his next lecture. Looking at the clock I was shocked since I didn't realise that it was nearly ten already seeing as I had an early class so I headed outside to wait for my next class that started at eleven.
