Chapter 8, Maylin
When I finished lunch I had to say goodbye to the kids, Justin and Kerri, promising to come and play again when I had the time. Surprisingly Kerri and Justin promised to hang out more with me next time as well making me think perhaps they wanted to be friends with me. It made me happy seeing as I had a hard time finding friends and keeping them since I was so focused on my goal of becoming a baker. The rest of the day I spent going around the compound meeting people of the clan, helping them out, playing with the kids and trying to get it through to them that I just wanted to be called by my first name and not by a title. By the time dinner came around I was dead on my feet but I fought through the clan dinner finding out that most of the clan dined in a large hall together while others sometimes dined with just family. After I finished eating Tracey showed me to my room again since I was sure I was going to get lost in. Since I was exhausted I didn't take much notice of the room, instead I changed and collapsed into bed falling straight asleep.
When I opened my eyes, I looked around and could tell instantly that this was once again a dream. Unlike last time where I thought it was real life I could tell this was a dream from the start I seemed to be getting better at noticing when I was dreaming.
"Sweetheart, you came" said a happy voice making me turn. I couldn't see clearly since it seemed to be late at night and the two people were wearing cloaks. Even without seeing them I had a feeling that these were the same people as before. Nathan and Robin, the people that were supposedly my real parents but until I had proof I couldn't convince myself that it was true.
"Did anyone see you? They don't know yet do they?" Nathan asked gently placed a hand on Robin's stomach that was slightly rounded. This must have taken place before the baby from the last dream was born.
"No, no one saw me leave and it will still be a while before they realise plus I managed to pass the morning sickness off as a slight case of food poisoning" explained Robin.
"Good then we have a head start before they realise we ran and why, by the time they do notice we will already be safe with our little one" said Nathan and Robin let out a hum.
"Sometimes I wish we didn't have to do this, that we didn't have to run or hide but trying to convince them wouldn't work anyway, so this is for the better" sighed Robin as Nathan grabbed the bag that she had on her back and held her hand as they started to walk. This made me think of my other dream, they spoke about their families and never getting approval from them. My guess was that they decided to run away when they found out that Robin was pregnant, not that it helped since they were found and killed. They must have really loved each other and their child.
"I know that you don't like this idea but I love you and our little one more than my family, more than my own life and I will protect you both until my last dying breath" smiled Nathan softly as he lent in kissing Robin. Everything slowly blurred as I felt myself waking up from the dream my last thought was sad remembering that he had tried his best to protect them but in the end they still ended up being killed.Opening my eyes it took a bit to recall that this was the room that Tracey showed me to after dinner last night, it was the room that I would be staying in from now on. Now that I wasn't so tired and it was morning I realised that the room was more glamorous than what I was used to. The walls were cream with light pink trim around the bottom and top and on the right wall was two big glass windows covered by matching light pink curtains. On the left was the wooden door that was painted white and would lead me to the rest of the mansion. What was most glamorous wasn't even the king size four post bed made with white sheets and cream curtains around the outside but the large ivory marble fireplace at the end of the bed. It was away from the bed enough for a love-seat and two single seats to be placed around it so that I would be able to sit there and read or rest when winter came around. Getting out of bed I went straight past the large built in wardrobe next to the bed for a small suitcase that I had gotten from my apartment. When I finished getting my clothes I headed to the ensuite to have a nice hot bath and then got dressed in a pair of sweatpants and a red singlet. Finally ready to face the day I headed to the dining room although I got lost a little on the way there. The room was rather full, nearly everyone ate breakfast and dinner together but lunch was for families apparently. Seeing Kerri, Justin, Tommy, Gary, Lilin, Lacy and Mary I waved before being beckoned over to Alan making me head to the head table. The dining room was set out with different sized round tables all over with a different amount of seats for different sized groups and at the back in front of the large windows there was a large rectangle table where the head of the clan and clan elders ate.
"Maylin I see you are awake early, I was actually about to send someone to go and get you" said Alan as I sat down.
"Yeah I normally wake up before this but I guess with everything happening I was extra tired so I slept in" I explained seeing as it was nearly ten already.
"It's fine dear, adjusting can't be easy that's why we are here to help you as much as we can so if you need something be sure to let us know" smiled Tracey as I grabbed a piece of toast and some scrambled eggs.
"You should eat more than that, your lessons start today, we don't need you passing out and wasting our time" snipped Elizabeth, making me sigh a little but I grabbed some more food. When breakfast was finished we headed towards what they called a training room that was only for the clan head's use. They were going to test my endurance and then start me on hand to hand combat since I was still a little upset about hurting someone. I never wanted to hurt anyone ever again but then I remember when I was attacked by Derek and how I was powerless against him. Instead of seeing it as learning to hurt someone I decided to see it as learning to protect myself and others that were innocent. Since I walked to and from college as well as a few trips to the gym a week when I had the time I thought I was at least in good shape but by the time I finished I wasn't so sure seeing as I was on the ground panting with sweat covering my whole body making it look like I had just gotten out of the shower. One thing I was glad of was that I had put my contacts on this morning instead of using my glasses. They had me run around the large room five times in under five minutes, skip with a rope for ten minutes straight, twenty star jumps, twenty push ups, ten pull ups and thirty sit ups with only a two minute break between each. Then they told me that this was only a small warm up to what I would be doing in a months time.
"We will start hand to hand combat now, let's start with your form and how you move" announced Alan and I dragged myself up off the ground already regretting this. The next hour I spent hitting against the air until I finally got the right form down seeing as they used a different form then what I was used to and once I got it correct they called it a day.
"I don't think I can do that every day, I am not even sure that I can move right now" I winced as I tried to pull myself off the floor where I had fallen after we finished.
"Don't worry next time the endurance part of the training will be slimmed down slightly until you get into better shape, you also grow used to it the more you do it" chuckled Tracey. For some reason I had a feeling that this would take me a while to adjust but for now I just had to push on. Since they were going to be teaching me about the history of the Aven clan next once I could move again we headed to the library."As you know there is two clans, us which is the Aven clan and then the Wolven clan our sworn enemies, now the Aven clan has the supernatural ability of taking on the form of birds or characteristics of birds and then the Wolven clan are Naga's, snake people. There are of course other clans but none are as big as the Aven and Wolven clans so you don't have to worry about them" lectured Elizabeth as she placed two books in front of me. One was a book about Bird shifters and the other was about Naga's so I could learn more by myself since there was a lot to learn.
"Why do we fight? I mean other than the fact that birds and snakes don't really get along" I enquired.
"Good questions, it has been told generation to generation about what those snakes have done to us, what they have done to our ancestors" said Tracey closing her eyes like it was painful to talk about.
"The Aven clan was large back then, bigger than any other clan around and our land was next to the Wolven clan we bordered each other so instead of fighting over land and resources we sent a messenger to them for a treaty all we got back was the messengers head and then we were attacked by them, although we had more people they were stronger and more capable so they slaughter half of us before we could even blink" continued Alan.
"We lost our land, our status and most of all a lot of our people and family, all for a reason we didn't know, we almost lost hope even us, that were just children at the time" said Tracey.
"Then we got a spark of hope, a prophecy speaking of a woman that would bring us back from our dark days, that would avenge our fallen family and that would bring an end to the Wolven clan so we no longer have to lose our family and friends" said Elizabeth and my eyes widened a little. They must think that I am the so called saviour, this woman of prophecy but I wasn't so sure. I couldn't even hurt a single person without guilt crushing down on me.
"You understand now why you are so important don't you? Why, we need you to lead us?" asked Tracey.
"Yes but I still don't understand, why do you think I am this person of prophecy? I don't like hurting people or violence so destroying the Wolven clan would be impossible" I tried to convince them. If they believed that I was this woman of prophecy then it would explain about why they were so desperate for me to lead them and also why they didn't want the Wolven clan to kill me.
"Leading people is not only about violence and fighting, it's also about keeping the clan safe along with the defenceless humans that don't know about the supernatural world so you will be fine" said Elizabeth.
"I have already decided to give this my best shot so I will keep my word and try my best so we don't lose anyone else" I explained, my thoughts were on Lacy, Lilin, Mary, Tommy and Gary with the innocent gleam in their eyes. I wanted to keep them innocent and safe along with the rest of the people in the clan.
"Elders you have to come quick, it's the Wolven clan they have attacked Rose shopping mall" called someone as they slammed the door to the library open.
"I will come as well I'm not sure if I will be much help but I am sure that I will find something to do to be of help" I explained knowing that once I done this I was taking steps onto a path that I could never back down from and this path was a dangerous one filled with heartbreak and death.
