WE WERE ONCE KIDS

JUNE

"Ei, don't forget to check on the mails!" Phillie said as she watched Eitan rushed outside the apartment.

It's already half a year since Eitan's mother died and they decided to live together as to be a support for each other. As if all that event made the both of them rely on each other completely.

Eitan is busy with his school and training for his extra curricular every day off somewhere. Phillie would just offer house works around the apartment in exchange for letting her stay.

After a few hours of cleaning, Phillie noticed a small box by the table that seems familiar. Nang maalala iyon na iyon ang pinakamahalagang palaging dala ni Eitan sa t'wing may training siya. Phillie frowned.

"Geez, now he's in trouble." She murmured as she grabbed the box and slowly opened it out of curiousity.

Sa malambot ng foam sa loob ay nakalagay ang isang hikaw na may naka print na number 1. Itinagilid niya ang kaniyang ulo habang hinahanap ang kapares ng hikaw na iyon.

"I didn't know he had piercing." She murmured.

All of a sudden, someone knocked on the apartment's door. That made her flinch and put the earring loosely inside and closed the box as she put it back down and walked towards the door.

She opened the door and exchanged look with a tall man in front. He has a short and neat hair with a cut on his eyebrow. He's wearing a black tight jeans and a black shirt while holding a helmet.

"Uhh, we're not subscribing for a newspaper." She murmured.

"No, no. I came here for the..uhh..thing that Eitan left." He said.

Phillie nodded. "You his friend?"

"You can say that. My name is Kozma. I'm in your care form now on." He said.

"All right. I'll get it."

Dali dali na kinuha ni Phillie ang maliit na box at inilagay iyon sa sa isang paperbag.  Babalik na sana siya sa pintuan ngunit nakita ang fruit basket sa ibabaw ng lamesa kaya kinuha ang ilang mga prutas doon at saka ipinasok sa paperbag.

Nang iabot ang paperbag ay nagtatakang nag angat ng tingin sa kaniya ang lalaki.

"He left his...fruits?" He asked.

Phillie chuckled. "No. Just tell him to eat that. The earring is in there too."

Nanlaki ang mga mata ni Kozma dahil sa sinabi ni Phillie kaya nagtaka siya.

"Uhh..did I say something..wrong?" She murmured.

"Do not tell anyone about the earring." Kozma said as he just left like that.

Phillie were still confused when she just watched Kozma who introduced him as Eitan's friend just left like that. She does not know what could possibly upset him but she just shrugged it off since Eitan came home like normal.

DECEMBER

Phillie got a job in a nearby cafe. She got up from picking up utensils in a table and looked outside the glasses wall of the cafe and sighed as she noticed the flowing snow in front of them. Suddenly, her phone rang.

Nilingon niya ang paligid at saka pumunta sa banyo para sagutin iyon.

"Hey, I'm working." She whispered.

"It's snowing. Should I pick you up?" Eitan asked.

"You're still in your training don't mind me. I'll just take the bus or cab." She said.
