"You're one of the Fatui Harbingers...?" His smile only confirmed your question as you tighten the grip on your sword, letting it burst into flames as you hold back your tears.

Out of every person you had to face in battle why must it be him? The one person you thought you could trust and share secrets with? The one person who was so kind to you when you weren't when you first encountered? The only person who was able to let you be yourself and open up in more ways than one.

So why did he have to be the bad guy?

"All things must be revealed one day shouldn't they?" Childe lets out a sigh as he readies himself for any attacks. For the longest time that he knew you he was very aware of your attack pattern and can counter all of them.

He was so nice and friendly when he first saw you. You were just sitting on a tree branch, reading a book that Xingqiu lended you. The wind softly hitting your face as your hair catches his attention with its bright color.

You remembered it as clear as day as he asks what you're doing up so high on the tree. You shyly just showed the book before engrossing yourself with the book to ignore answering his questions. You never liked talking to anyone that you weren't familiar with. It gets worse that he doesn't seem to be from Liyue so you can't trust him just yet.

"I never thought I would meet someone peculiar like you." He comments while shoving his hands in his pockets and whistles, staying at the tree to look out for you if you somehow fall. It was a nice thing for him to do, but he didn't need to stay.

His presence did feel intimidating at first, but you let your guard down to relax while reading. Maybe it was fate that decided to test you, but you felt the book fall off your hands and you cried out and tried to grab it. The book fell right into his hands and he cheekily grins and puts it behind his back.

"Guess it's time you tell me your name then huh?"

How bitter did you feel when you realized that he was faking everything. He didn't care about you at all. All he cared was to get the information that you have about Liyue Harbor and what has been happening behind the scenes.

"How unfortunate that the one thing that is revealed is that you're my enemy." You spat and charged at him, tears falling down as you try your best to land a hit.

Each memory flashing by as you remember how you had to babysit his brother, Teucer. You remembered how caring he was with his brother and how he defeated those ruin guards to keep you and Teucer safe. He wanted to protect Teucer's dreams so much that it physically pained you when he nearly got hit.

You remembered that sweet smile and it all shattered in front of you. That person you fell in love with is replaced with someone you vowed to never trust. The Fatui Harbingers are people you don't ever want to cross paths with. Hearing their names just made you want to curse at the gods as to why they had to exist.

You lost your childhood because of the Fatui and knowing that someone part of them was right in front of you made your blood boil. Your anger clouding your judgement along with sadness at how things turned out.

"Aw now don't be so cruel I'm sure you'll forgive me, right?" He chuckles as he strikes an attack when he notices you were open for one. You quickly noticed and dodged it in time before landing a hit to his abdomen.

"Forgiving you will only be foolish of me." The only way to not show weakness is to cover it up with a facade. If you keep it up long enough everyone will believe it's true until the truth seeps out.

All lies will be revealed in time after all.

"Oh my oh my." Childe sighs as he charges quickly and coldly glares at you when he manages to knock you off your feet.

"Maybe in another life we could've met under different circumstances Y/N." In a brief moment you saw how his eyes wavered from its cold stare. His eyes showed the same guy who was so kind. The same person who only wanted to protect his family. The same person who didn't want to do this to you.

"You monster." Hearing those words felt like a blade pierced through his heart. He never would have thought that out of every person saying things like that to him it would never faze him and yet hearing you say those words were a knife in the heart. His demeanor changed and his eyes widened when you gained the strength to tackle him to the ground.

Your tears falling onto his face as you ready your sword for any sudden attacks from him. Childe's eyes stare into yours as he brings his hand up to stroke your cheek lovingly. You lean into his touch, thinking back to the simpler times and it burns you alive to know that you're playing with fire.

"You're a monster yet I still love you." You whisper as you close your eyes, bracing for anything as he leans into your ear.

"If I'm a monster then this monster loves you too."

Hello this is my first one shot and I'm so happy with how it turned out hehe (o^－^o) I hope that you guys like it and I know the ending is a bit weird, but I guess it's more of an open ending so you can decide on what you or Childe will do after the confession !!

This isn't as long as I wished for it to be and my writing does seem so simple, but I swear I will improve and make it worth reading~

I wanted to write this because it was inspired by this video I saw on YouTube called "Lumine x Childe • Monsters [Genshin Impact MV]"
