CHAPTER 27

SEVEN YEARS LATER

AUN POV

"Aun, sweetheart, make sure you reach the restaurant before six," Papa said and served me the breakfast plate. Again like all these years, he decided something on life without giving any heads up. And this time, he moved one step forward to decide on my committed life." Do I really have to get married, papa? Can't I just skip another year? "

He seemed to be calm hearing my words which told nothing but he was firm in his decision and wouldn't back out at any cost.

Pushing the food inside his mouth, he grabbed a glass of water to drink it down. His silence made me impatient as I stopped his hand taking another bite. "Papa, please say something, can we skip a year?" I asked and hoped at least this time he would answer me. But again he remained numb and continued to have his food.

The room around us filled with the cutlery sound as we both continued to eat in silence. Papa seemed to remain calm and free but me? I was battling and boiling inside with the marriage ache. "sweetheart, you want me to pick you up from the office or you be fine on your own?" Out of nowhere, I heard him ask me a question.

And to give him the taste of his own medicine, I remained silent, not answering him back. "Aun, I asked you something". Continuing with the act, I ate my breakfast in silence.

Papa seemed to understand my action and sighed, gaining my attention. "Seriously Aun? Stop being a baby" he said and sighed once again witnessing my unresponsive behaviour.

"I won't let you skip this meeting Aun, you already have done it like 4 times and I'm not leaving you without getting married this year," he said and slammed his tablecloth down.

"I gave you the option to find a man yourself but all you did was to reject every boy who approached you, Aun. Just understand that I can't see my daughter being alone without anyone to love." His words were true, I rejected every man who approached and proposed to me to be their girlfriend, the reason is simple, cause I don't want anyone to play me or my feelings any further. One time experience was more than enough.

"I've you, papa, why should I search up for a new man, when I've someone dear to me." I told him the words that skipped right away from my tongue, not bothered that I defended my father.

"Darling as I said before, I can't be with you throughout your life, you need someone to love and cherish you Aun after all this papa is getting old."

My eyes looked at him with a concerned feeling. I know Papa is getting old and wants me to have a healthy life with someone who can love and protect me as he did. He wants me to settle in life and have a family with kids to complete my living.

I'm already working well and earning enough to run my life burden-free for the next fifty years. I've everything that women my age could ask for and own some properties under my name, so the question of making my life settle is already done. But having a husband and children is still what I lack.

"You're turning twenty-six Aun, don't you think you need a man to love you?" his question is right though, as I'm not complaining about his actions but after being played by that arrogant brute, I started to question every man's behavior.

But there is no use thinking that as my father already arranged a man for me, either way, I've no choice but to meet him today.

Finally, glancing at the time, I took my keys to move to my office but before I stepped out, I went near my father to kiss his cheeks and said the words that brought a huge grin on his face.

"I'll reach the restaurant before time papa, you don't have to pick me up."

I parked my car inside the parking lot and strolled inside the company while greeting the other employees. My cabin is on the sixth floor as I got promoted as an Artificial automation development head last month.
