AUN POV
Monday morning, is a universally dreaded day for students. But for me, it held an extra layer of irritation as I would be starting my life in the hostel today, until I completed my bachelor's degree.
I had never lived without my father before, and it was the first time he was asking me to live alone, without him. Sadly, I had to comply with his decision to join the hostel.
My mind was already filled with worries and anxieties. I imagined myself being bullied and treated differently and wondered if I would be able to make at least one friend. I questioned whether my room would be as comfortable as my own, and if I would be able to find the food that I liked. Countless thoughts and uncertainties were swirling in my mind.
"Are you ready, darling?" Seriously? Standing before the entrance of the university, he asked me this question? Regardless of my readiness, he would drag me along with his decision anyway.
Without uttering a word, I simply nodded in response. We both walked into the university, with one hand carrying my belongings and my books on my back, while my father carried my luggage. He seemed genuinely excited to push his daughter away, didn't he? "Bad Papa," I muttered under my breath, letting out a sigh and continuing my steps.
We arrived at the university's office room where they would process my hostel admission. I stood outside, waiting for my father to collect all the necessary forms and applications, preparing to send his daughter away for four long years.
After about 10 minutes, he emerged with the papers already filled out. "You did the filling?" I looked at my father, my eyebrows narrowing in confusion. "Yeah, do you have a problem with that?" he responded, more as a statement than a question. I knew I was capable of filling out my own application, so why did he take it upon himself?
"You just need to sign it, and then we can submit it." If he was capable of filling out the entire form, why couldn't he just sign my name as well? He was the one doing everything, and it was starting to annoy me.
Before signing, I decided to go through the application once, just to make sure he hadn't filled in anything that I didn't appreciate. As I scanned the paper, my eyes landed on something that caught my attention.
"Why did you put me down for a shared room when they clearly have the option for a single bedroom?" I questioned my father as he rolled his eyes at me before letting out a sigh.
"You should learn to socialize with people, Aun. If I agreed to get you a separate room, you would just lock yourself up and only peek out when necessary. Isn't that right?" he explained. Well, he was right. He knew his daughter well, understanding every trait of mine. "Sign the application, Aun. You're wasting time," he urged me impatiently.
Ignoring his impatience, I continued to check the application. He had even included details about my participation in morning gym classes, weekly yoga sessions, and my diet routine. However, the one good thing he did was not mention a curfew time for me, which was definitely a plus as I care less about roaming around at night.
I finally signed the application form and handed it to my father to submit in the office room. A staff member then came outside to guide us to the hostel.
Once I stepped inside, I was immediately taken aback by the beauty of the campus. The expansive garden, the inviting pool, and the various activity blocks, including an indoor pool, tennis court, and basketball court, all added to the charm. The outdoor playing and sports areas were a pleasant surprise as well.
My roommate and I were assigned a room on the first floor of 'A' block. It was the last room, providing a stunning view of the garden with its neatly aligned trees. The room itself was spacious and cozy, with two beds, two study areas, a bathroom, and a comfortable couch with a small coffee table in the center. I quickly unpacked my belongings and chose the bed near the window, captivated by the view.
