Both of my legs felt stiff as I paced through my room, lunging forward to try stretching out the awkward feeling.
Hanji rested with the sprouts I had, with her fixated gaze on the growing colors they had just started to show. She hummed to them gently, running a finger at the leaves as I swept up the half full glass from my counter.
Cold water hit my tongue, trailing down my dry throat as I removed my gear from my shoulders and down. The belts felt light in my hands as I slipped them off of the dark clothing I wore underneath.
We stood feet apart, as silent as a graveyard. Hanji had usually hung out in my room during times where she couldn't focus, and I hadn't been as startled as this morning when she snuck in and cleaned my dorm.
" Ugh, that sucked." I rolled my ankles as fresh air surrounded them.
" Why? What happened?" A concerned glance flushed out her previous in-awe expression as I tucked my hair back to tie it up.
I still dwelled on what I should have done as I stood there. What if I had just scooted past Levi and went to group with Jean, wouldn't that have been so much easier.
"I hadn't sparred in a long time, and I definitely didn't match with Levi. I should've just gone and worked with Jean." I retrieved the agenda from my open cabinet and neatly unfolded it before closing the flat drawer, repeating the same simple questions over and over.
My hand rubbed at my forehead as Hanji lunged to me from the ground, pulling my hand away from hiding my face.
" Do you want to practice together? I can help you get back on your feet." Hanji stretched her arms behind her back, twisting her head.
" I think I'll go try refreshing my mind outside, but I would really like to soon. I'm supposed to be working with them on my own tomorrow, so I think we'll practice gear for a change."
I slipped off my mattress, throwing my gear to the corner of fabrics as I slouched to the floor.
" Sure. What are you going to do with gear then?" Hanji floated her fingers around the curls of green on the flowers with joy, her eyes going back to the plant and back to mine,
" Well, since I wouldn't want to spar with the one of us missing- Maybe we can race for a while. It sounds like fun."
She grinned to me with a hand shaking my shoulder.
" You seem to be getting the hang of it again, and that's good. I've got some more ideas if you need them."
If anyone understood me best, it was Hanji. So many other things were distracting me today that I didn't even hear myself getting nervous about my past squad.
They were a complete shift in the other Cadets I had years before.
My eyes lit up as she stared to me.
" Please! I need more ideas." I begged, holding out the copy Levi had configured. I showed her the blank spots for my days without his teaching as she nodded her head to the file.
Hanji and I laughed as she scooted closer to my hip, grabbing the paper I used and began to point to many different areas, pulling out a pen to write down some bullet points with. I'm so glad she's here.
