"Are you sure you're okay to go out on a food run? I don't want you to get hurt."

"Oh, jeez. Relax, babe, you're coming with me, and I still have bullets in this thing."

"How do you even still have that?"

"Ha. I put it in my bag so Noya wouldn't steal it."

"That's...logical."

Suga pumped the pellets into his airsoft pistol and turned on safety, because he wasn't an idiot. Even if it was non-lethal, the plastic bullets could still really hurt, and probably kill too, under the perfect circumstances. He then tightened his grip on it and met Kiyoko, Tanaka, and Asahi at the front door. They all shared a glance, then opened the door to the bunker.

There was an unusual abundance of zombies, which was unsettling. The group had to fight their way out, then sprint to the store. They all arrived out of breath, Kiyoko slightly less so than the rest, and strolled through the aisles. Thankfully, the zombies had dispersed after they'd left the school. Still weird, but maybe they'd just caught on that there were people living in there. It wouldn't be the weirdest thing that'd happened that year. Once all the food had been collected, they all made their way back.

There were even more zombies than before. Suga made eye contact with everyone, then spoke in a calm and steady voice.

"On my count, you run."

Ennoshita waited for his boyfriend patiently, quietly. He couldn't show his fear. He knew the others relied on him, especially when Suga and Daichi weren't around. Which had been happening a lot lately, because of Sugawara's illness. He was better now though, obviously, so hopefully he'd have to step in less. With that comforting thought, he somehow ended up drifting off to sleep.

Not too much later, he was jolted awake by a violent scream, and then a bloodcurdling, pained one.

"NO!"

Chills rushed through his spine as he raced over to the door to see what was going on.

He saw flashes of a panic-stricken Asahi and Tanaka, a shaken Kiyoko, who was dragging limp Daichi behind her. He rushed them inside, and helped Kinoshita close the door, before immediately realizing what had happened. However terrified he was, however hurt he was, he asked it anyway.

"How?"

Ennoshita's voice came out as a shallow croak, and he realized he was crying.

"He told us to run. We did. He ran with us, but Daichi tripped, and...well- he saved him- but-but-"

At this point, Kiyoko put her hand over her eyes and fully broke down, falling to the floor. Daichi was in a corner, curled up into himself, motionless. You'd think he was dead until you saw the fear in the whites of his eyes. He didn't respond to any attempts at consolation provided by his friends. He was completely and utterly heartbroken. When Akaashi thought about it later, he figured it was some kind of emotional self-destruct. When an object had to much pressure put on it, it broke. He assumed that the same thing had happened with the brunette. He'd become so overwhelmed that everything except for his most vital functions had simply shut down.

No one who had been out with Suga when it happened could stomach any food that night. Tanaka somehow managed to force it down, but in the middle of the night, he ran to the bathroom and hurled it all up. Akaashi had been told by Bokuto, who visited the bathroom now that the one person with a shot at immunity was gone.

Daichi didn't respond to people. Asahi had been crying the entire night. Bokuto, who found himself missing the grey-haired boy more than he'd like to admit, still didn't show any emotion. But at night, he found himself going into the bathroom so he could be nearer to Akaashi. He didn't want to get close to anyone else, but the ace's best friend still felt invincible to him. He decided that he didn't want the ravenette to die. Therefore, he wouldn't. It was a stupid thought process, but it rang through Bokuto's head, almost like a mantra:

He will not die. I will not let him die. He will not die, because I won't let him. I won't. I can't.

He remembered when times had been simpler, when he had been more free. He'd fretted about stupid things, even had an "emo mode." He cringed at the memory. My god, how did Akaashi put up with me? How did everyone else-

No, we don't think about them anymore. We don't think about them, we don't think about Kuroo. We don't think about Kindaichi, or Sugawara. We do not think about them, because if we do, we will fall apart. We cannot afford to fall apart. I have to be strong for everyone.

I have to be strong for Akaashi.

He leaned against the wall, then let out a long, drawn-out sigh. "It hasn't been two months, you know, since this whole thing started," he whispered, "I wish we could go back and appreciate what we had back then. Dear God, did I take it for granted."
