Chapter 5

Sugawara cracked open the seal to another bottle of water and poured it into a couple of empty coffee cups. As the water trickled from the bottle, he let out a quiet sniff. "Okay," he said, his voice cracking a little bit, "I'm going to go get the food rations that we have. Stay here." His sadness was badly hidden by a smile that was clearly fake, but Tanaka, Kageyama, and Tsukishima didn't push it. Kinoshita hadn't even come out of the closet to greet them yet. They had guessed he was sulking. After all, Narita was his best friend. The two had been extremely close. The three boys pretended to not hear the sobs echoing from Sugawara's part of the room.

Suga came back with a few packs of stale crackers and microwave-cooked meat. "We found a mini fridge in the lounge," he said, "Damn, why do they get to have all the good stuff? I want to be able to microwave my coffee when it gets too cold too!" He laughed weakly. Suga...Tanaka thought, You can trust us, you know. As they ate, the room was filled with a silence that weighed heavily on the shoulders of the four boys. The closet door slowly began to creak open to reveal a puffy-eyed Kinoshita silently walk out, hug Tanaka, and grab a pack of crackers.

Sugawara smiled even wider when he saw the boy, but as soon as he disappeared back into the closet his smile fell and was revealed to be fake. I'm sorry, he mouthed to the three others, and continued to pick at his food ration. This time he didn't even try to hide the tears that fell onto the floor like a violent rainstorm. He seemed to go from cheerfulness to agony in just a single moment. His body suddenly began to shake with sobs and he fell to the ground, letting out a bloodcurdling, heart-wrenching scream. "I'M SORRY!" He sobbed, "I'M SORRY, I'M SORRY, I couldn't save you, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."

Surprisingly, Tsukishima was the first to react. He quickly made his way to Sugawara's side and began to rub comforting circles on his back as the grey-haired boy's shaky sobs slowly transitioned into a silence that held everyone in the room hostage. Tanaka walked over next and pulled Tsukishima and Sugawara into a big hug. Kageyama walked over to them and wrapped his arms around the trio as well. No one complained when the tears began to fall silently from Kageyama's face. They were contagious, and soon the entire quartret were crying, waterfalls of tears streaming down their cheeks until they all fell asleep hugging each other and a blond, spiky-haired head poked out the door.

Nishinoya checked his food stores one last time before cracking the closet door open. Damn it all...I'm out of food and water but there are too many zombies outside to risk going out there again! At least, not alone...if only I had someone with me to fight alongside, I wouldn't be almost out of food right now! Starvation is a risk I might have to take if I don't wanna be bitten. He sat back down, avoiding touching the ground with his newly bandaged arm. He had used some of the volleyball tape he had purchased and an old cardboard box in the closet to fashion a sort of makeshift splint for it. I wish Suga-san were here right now, he thought, he's an amazing survivalist.

"I think," Tsukishima mumbled, "We should try to find everyone else. "After we do that, it'll be easier to stick together and survive." "Mmh." Sugawara still seemed to be blaming himself, but at least he had stopped crying. "Okay, I'll take that as a yes," Tsukishima said, "And to do that we need to know where everyone was." "D-Daichi was...D-Daichi was in t-the gym! Daichi's in the gym! And Hinata-kun!" Kageyama perked up at this. "Hinata-kun?" "Daichi and Hinata-kun are in the gym and they're all alone and Daichi is trapped in the gym!"

"Relax, Sugawara-san. I'll help you find him."
"Kinoshita-kun? Are you okay?"
"F-fine for now, but Tsukishima-kun is right, we need to find Daichi-san and Hinata-kun."
"Okay, where do we think he would be?"
"Daichi-san is pretty level-headed. He probably took Hinata-kun with him into either the gym closet or the club room."
"Where do we start?"
"I say the gym."
"Everyone, grab all the food and water that's left. We're going on a trip."

Daichi woke up to a commotion outside. "Hinata-kun," he hissed, "I need you to hide!" The small boy awoke from his slumber, confused, but did as the taller man said, curling up in a corner with both of their jackets over him. It wasn't the best spot, but it worked for now. Daichi cracked open the door and shouted out, "Who's there?!" A crack, a shout, and a tall blur of blue hair was thrown into him, knocking him backwards. Three more figures stumbled in, then a fourth, closing the closet door tightly. "Sugawara-san?" Hinata asked from behind me. He turned to look and a huge smile spread across his face. "Hinata-kun! Samawura! I knew we'd find you guys!" The third year wrapped the team captain in a firm embrace, then promptly checked him over. "Are you hurt? Do you need medical attention? Are you hungry? Do you have food? Water?"

"Relax Koushi, neither of us are hurt, we're just hungry and thirsty." Sugawara whipped out two bottles of water and a few packs of food. "Eat, dumbasses! How else are you gonna live?" Daichi giggled. "I love you too angel."

The team stared at them. "Well, I guess we're out now," Suga said, "Okay guys, it's basically the end of the world so I might as well say it, I'm gay. And I'm dating Samawura." Everyone exchanges a few quick glances, then nodded. "Fine by me," Tanaka said, and proceeded to sit down on the floor of the closet. "Now Hinata, Daichi eat."

As they finished their rations, Daichi asked, "Koushi, what was that noise we heard before you came in?" "Oh," Suga giggled, "Well, I smacked a zombie with the butt of my airsoft pistol."

"You have a gun?!"
"Airsoft pistol. There's a difference. An Airsoft is non-lethal and literally was made to fight other people with in recreational tournaments, so I don't have to worry about accidentally hurting anyone."
"So it's a gun that doesn't kill."
"Essentially."
"Then what's the point of having it?"
