"He's dead."
Tears formed in Sugawara's eyes and he looked at the ground. "I...I couldn't save him...I couldn't reach him in time..." Tanaka and the two first years began to cry as well, but the oldest of the three put his arms around Sugawara. "It's okay," Tanaka whispered to him. "It wasn't your fault." "But it was!" He wailed. "I was right there, Tanaka! I was there and he was next to me and all of a sudden he wasn't. Our first time out had been so successful, so we went out again, and...and h-he didn't make it out alive!" "Come here," Kageyama said, and gave Suga a hug.

"It's not your fault. Now let's go eat." "O-okay.."

"We need to find food," Daichi told Hinata, "But there isn't anything in here, so we need to go outside, okay?" Hinata nodded. "For that," he continued, "We're gonna need a weapon, so help me look for one." "What weapons are there in a volleyball closet?" Hinata asked. "I don't know, how heavy are the mops?" Daichi replied. "Mops are a good idea," Hinata said, "Let's use those."

They opened the doors to the gym closet and found the bigger room attached to it was empty, the volleyball net still up from when Daichi and Hinata had helped set up for the practice game. There were noises outside. "Hinata-kun, help me look through the window," Daichi said, "I want to see what's outside."

He found himself staring in shock. "D-Daichi-san? What's going on out t-there?" Hinata trembled a little bit. "See for yourself," Daichi said, and scooped Hinata up to the window so he could see as well.

Walking corpses. Pale, bloody, and partially decomposed bodies walking around as if they were alive and well. Daichi clapped his hand over Hinata's mouth as the smaller boy let out a muffled scream. His eyes seemed to be gleaming with fear. "D-Daichi-san....why are there...what are those...?" "I don't know," Daichi mumbled, "I don't know! Okay! Just...we need to find food! There should be some in a bunker that's attached to our club room, we just have to get there. We just have to get there."

At this point, he was more trying to convince himself than Hinata. The other boy got the message, however. "Come on," he said as he pulled Daichi to the closed and firmly locked doors of the gym, "We open it on the count of three." "Okay." Daichi said.

"One..."
"Two..."
"Three!"

Wham.

The door flew open and zombies flooded in. The two boys struggled to keep them at bay, and they tried to fight their way out of the gym, but the attempt was in vain. Hinata flailed and kicked a zombie away. Daichi whacked one of the undead creatures with his broom. "We need to go back!" Daichi shouted. "Okay!" Hinata yelled back. A high-pitched scream emitted from Hinata's mouth as he just barely managed to dodge a bite from an extremely aggressive zombie. He jabbed it in the stomach with his broom and in the process missed the sound of footsteps approaching from behind him. "Hinata! Look out!" Daichi shouted, but Hinata didn't hear his warning in time.

Thwack.

Daichi slammed the handle of his broom across the head of the zombie and it flew clean off. "Run!" Hinata didn't have to be told twice. Daichi defended the rear and the two high schoolers full-out sprinted back to the gym doors, jumped all the steps in a single leap, and rushed back into the closet, shaking in fear and coming down from an extreme adrenaline rush.

"Are you okay, Hinata-kun?" The taller male asked. "I'm fine, Daichi-san," the other said, "But are you okay?" Daichi nodded. "That didn't turn out too well for us, did it, now?" "I guess food comes another day, huh?" Hinata asked. "Yeah," Daichi sighed, "Sorry about almost letting you die there." "No worries," Hinata replied, "We're dealing with something that we don't know and we're just trying to not die." The two boys sat down in silence and caught their breath. "We'll try again soon," Daichi promised, "But not today." "Not today," Hinata agreed.

"Asahi-san," Yamaguchi began, "Everyone else could still be alive." "Yeah," Asahi replied, "But what do we do about it? We can't contact them, because all their phones are with us, Noya-kun's phone will be out of battery by now, and we don't know where anyone is other than the quite unhelpful fact that they're all somewhere inside the school." "But," The freckled boy replied, "We do know where they were headed." Asahi looked up at Yamaguchi. "You're right," he said, "But this is our only safe spot." "We need a plan," Yamaguchi said. "Yeah," The gentle giant responded, "A plan."

"So what do we do first?"
"Well, first I think we should find something to defend ourselves with. A weapon of some sort. Are there any in here? This is a bunker, after all, maybe we can find something of use to us!"
"Let's look around and see what we've got."
"Good idea."

Bang.

A hard object hit the door to the club room, and the door burst open with incredible force.
