"Kuroo, where are we going?"
"Where do you think we should go?"
They had just raided a convenience store nearby and were eating together. Akaashi and Bokuto still kept themselves away from the others, only allowing themselves to be near each other. Kenma tried not to think about the fact that they had just robbed a goddamn store, and instead tried to focus on the fact that they had food. Positive thinking, am I right? God, that even sounds bad inside my head.
"If Bokuto and Akaashi survived," he began, "Then maybe we can find others too. I find it unlikely that anyone else'll be here though, we stayed at practice very late last night. They'll be at home with their families, or dead. I say we should head to the next school we can think of, and see if anyone's there."
"Karasuno."
"What?"
"We should go to Karasuno."
"Kuroo, that's two hundred miles away."
"And?"
"How the fuck are we gonna get there?"
"Uh, by bus?" I thought you were the smart one here."
"What about gas, genius? We'll run out eventually, and so will the gas stations."
"Oh. I never thought about that part."
"No shit, Sherlock."
"But I think we could do it."
"Really?!"
"I don't see why not, as long as everyone agrees."
When asked, everyone was okay with it. Upon hearing that they would go to Karasuno, Bokuto was so excited he almost seemed like his old self for a second. Almost. Akaashi actually smiled when he heard it, and Inuoka was certainly looking forward to seeing Hinata again, if he was alive. Lev was hoping that everyone would be fine, and he wanted someone to talk to that wasn't on the bus.
If everyone was honest with themselves, they all felt a little lonely and isolated.
Daichi and Sugawara were planning out the next supply run when Nishinoya walked up to them. He looked apprehensive but opened his mouth to speak anyway. "Can- can I go on the next supply run? I- I know I'm not fully healed, but what happens if I never go and I find myself alone again? What if-"
"No."
He looked like he'd been expecting it, but it still wasn't any less harder for Daichi to say. Noya's look of disappointment was almost enough to make him give in and say yes, but the small boy was injured. He could get killed, and Daichi wasn't ready to bear that type of responsibility. And he didn't want Suga to feel responsible for someone's death ever again.
No one deserved that. Not the evillest man on this cruel Earth.
He felt a pang at the loss of Narita, but forced himself to ignore the pain. He had to stay strong and keep moving. For Sugawara. For his team. For Seijoh. For everyone, or what was left of them. He couldn't afford to fall apart. Not now.
Yet he still felt his chest tighten, and it was a little harder to breathe for a few minutes.
Nishinoya sighed and walked away. The answer hadn't been unexpected, but it was still hard news to bear nonetheless. He wanted to do something. Anything. Anything but sitting in the gym like a dead fish, unable to do anything because of some stupid injury.
He missed his family.
He had a little sister named Akira. She was short like him and loved to draw. He loved looking at her work. One time, he'd even asked her to teach him, so he knew the basics. He began to trace out the outline of a head onto the gym floor. I miss her.
He started to cry.
His parents sometimes traveled for business, but they were home most of the year. Just his luck, they'd been out when this clusterfuck began, and now Akira was all alone.
He felt a comforting hand on his back. Knowing it was Asahi, he leaned into his friend.
"I miss them," he mumbled.
"Who?" Asahi replied.
"My family. My parents are away. My sister's all alone, and I don't even know if she's alive."
"I'm sorry," was all Asahi could think to say.
"I know they'd tell me to be strong, but how can I do it without them? I'm not special. I'm not the main character of some insane story. I can't automatically know what to do. I'm just...here."
Just then, a knock pierced the brief silence that had overtaken the room. Sugawara cautiously opened the door, gasped, and smiled. Nishinoya craned his neck to see who had found them.
Is that...Fukurodani? And Nekoma? Don't they live, like, really far away from us?
But it was indeed people he knew, from the training camp he'd had a few months ago. Bokuto, Akaashi, Yaku, Inuoka, Lev, Kuroo, and Kenma.
"What are you doing all the way in Miyagi? Don't you live in Tokyo? How did you get here? Are you all okay?"
Kuroo shrugged his shoulders noncommittally, but Suga wasn't fooled. "You must be starving. Lemme get you something." And before he could say no, everyone was eating together and listening to Kenma recap all the events that led up to them sitting in the gym with what was left of Karasuno and Aoba Joshai. Once Kenma finished, Sugawara took a turn explaining how the drastic turn of events had affected their lives. When he got to the part where Narita died, however, he choked on a sob and couldn't speak anymore. Daichi had to pick up from there, rubbing Suga's back as he continued to tell their story. Yamaguchi was quietly crying into Tsukishima's shoulder, and Kinoshita hid in the closet, unable to listen anymore. Nekoma and Fukurodani just nodded and continued to eat, unsure of how to respond to it.
Everyone went to bed with heavy hearts that night.
