Sugawara, Kinoshita, and Narita formed a train of sorts, tying their jackets around their waists, then tying the sleeves of the jackets together so they wouldn't lose each other. Suga was at the front, shooting the walking corpses with airsoft bullets. He would've felt bad had it been a real gun, but since airsoft bullets were made to hit people with, he wasn't worried. As they reached the cafeteria, Narita and Kinoshita grabbed as much food and water as possible while Sugawara kept them from getting bitten. They raced back as soon as they could, and checked out their loot.
Three bags of chips, seven bottles of water, and multiple boxes of juice, cookies, and other non-perishable items. This should last us about a week or so, Suga thought, if we ration correctly. "Everyone have their weapons intact?" Narita asked. "Yeah," Kinoshita said, as Sugawara nodded. "Let's split up the food so that everything can be rationed," Suga said. "That's a good idea." Narita put all of the food into a box. "But let's just make sure everyone is okay right now."
"Run!" Kiyoko screamed as she pulled Yachi and Ennoshita along with her. "Use the bats! Whack them!" Ennoshita swung the softball bat he had gotten from the closet around wildly. As the bat collided with the zombies it made a hollow thwap sound and the undead corpses fell to the floor.
Eventually, they managed to make their way back to the locker room that they came from. "That was a total failure," Yachi grumbled, "And I didn't even have the guts to do something." "Believe me," Kiyoko said, "You're doing plenty by not dying and helping us think up plans." "But the plans don't work!" Yachi exclaimed. "They don't have to," Kiyoko shouted back, "Because we're doing what it takes, and plans fail, but that's not what matters right now! What we need," she whispered, cupping Yachi's face in her hands, "Is someone who can keep thinking of new ideas even if the old ones fail. What we need, is someone like you." Yachi nodded. "Okay. I'll keep trying. I'll make a new plan." "Okay," Kiyoko said, "I'll do my best to help."
A day had passed. Tanaka, Kageyama, and Tsukishima had long since given up the privacy of their own stalls in favor of being able to see and quietly converse with each other. They were all quite hungry, but had been drinking water out of the tap to quench their thirst. "I wonder what's going on out there." Tanaka mumbled quietly. None of them had been able to sleep out of fear and discomfort on the cold, hard floors of the bathroom stall. "We should get food." Kageyama said. "We're all hungry and we all need it, unless you two are alien or something." "Can confirm that I'm human," Tanaka responded. "Tsukishima-kun? You human, bruh?" "I'm perfectly human as well, but I don't think we should go looking for food." Kageyama lifted up his head to glare at him. "And why not, exactly? We're gonna starve to death if we don't do something!" "Hush," Tsukishima said, "We don't know what's happening outside or if it's even safe out of this bathroom. It would be foolishness to go out until we have more information about our situation to rely on." "We need food!" Kageyama exclaimed. "If we wait any longer, then we won't be strong enough to get the food! We'll just lay here and rot like dead fish!" "Well, excuse me for looking out for our safety," Tsukishima quipped, "I just don't want to die cold and alone in this stupid ceramic tomb!"
"Guys." Tanaka whispered it so quietly it was barely noticeable. They didn't hear him. "Guys!" He tried again and this time, they heard him and paid attention, thankfully. "We can absolutely not afford to be arguing right now. Kageyama-kun, you are right, we do need food, it's essential, but Tsukishima-kun has a very, very good point. We don't know what's out there. So how about we find something to defend ourselves with, like a weapon, and then go look for food while we have something to fend off any threat that comes our way."
The two first years, startled and scared by how tired and defeated their normally upbeat and optimistic senpai sounded, agreed.
They looked over every inch of the bathroom stall at least three times, then decided it was time to go out of the stall. Kageyama pushed open the door, tensing up as it made a creaking sound. Tanaka said, "There is a broom closet right outside. I am going, you two stay here." He ran out before anyone could protest, them came back in a few moments later with three brooms, tossing one to each boy. "Best weapons I could find, now, we need to get food, we're alone in this-"
"Wait."
"What is it this time, Tsukishima-sama?"
"How do you know there isn't anyone else? Didn't Suga-san say that he, Narita-san, and Kinoshita-san were gonna go get supplies that were inside the school? And weren't Daichi-san and Hinata-kun in the gym? Asahi-san and Yamaguchi were warming up outside, and Ennoshita-san was helping our managers get water... so everyone should be in the school somewhere!"
"What about Nishinoya-san?"
"He was...going to get some tape...at the store...alone..."
"Do you think he's....?"
"Doesn't matter right now. Where was Suga-san going? What was he going to get?"
"He was gonna get some extra water bottles!"
"Where?"
"By the teachers lounge!"
"Let's go!"They raced out to see...zombies? "Keep running!" Tanaka shouted as he knocked them out of the way with his broom. "He has to be here somewhere!" They ran up a flight of stairs. "Follow me!" Tanaka yelled back to his struggling Kohai. As they pushed their way up the stairs, Kageyama yelled, "Sugawara! Narita! Kinoshita! If you're there and you can hear us, lend us a hand, we could use some help here!" They made their way past the stairs and bolted towards the teacher's lounge. "The water bottles are stored here!" Tanaka yelled. They busted open the door to the lounge, raced inside, and slammed the door shut.
All of a sudden a bullet whizzed past Tsukishima's head and thwacked into Tanaka's chest.
It bounced off harmlessly.
"Who's there?!" They heard Suga shout. I am armed!" "It's us!" Kageyama yelled back. Suga poked his head around the corner, and his eyes widened as tears began to prick the edges. He ran into his arms, sobbing. "You're alive! You're alive! I thought you were dead! I thought I would have to shoot your undead corpses!" Kageyama patted his senpai's back awkwardly. "We hid in the bathroom but then decided that we had to look for you guys," he explained, "And what is going on?" "Oh..." Suga said, "Well, I think it's a, ah, I think it's a zombie apocalypse."
"So I'm not insane."
"Nope."
"Good."
"Anyway," Suga said, "Come to the closet and eat! You look tired as hell! I'll let Kinoshita know it's safe.""Kinoshita? Wasn't Narita here too?"
Sugawara went silent and looked at his shoes with tears in his eyes.
"He...he's dead."
