Not Without You - A Stucky Fanfic

Chapter Twenty Three

The avengers alarm started going off.

Steve woke up in a start, hearing the alarm reminded him of his military days before the serum. Bucky woke up next to him, and both of them headed out of Steve's room down to the meeting area to see what this was about.

They haven't had a mission in a while, and Steve was kind of hoping it didn't include him but knowing Tony, it does.

The group of avengers walk into the room to see Fury and Tony standing, waiting for them. They all sit down, waiting for one of the two adults to speak and know what is going on.

"We have a mission for some of you, it's a month long and you'll be traveling. Steve, Tony, Nat, Clint, Wanda and Scott will all be going to Europe to track down these Hydra bases and clear these countries for good. Germany, Syria and Russia. There has been rumors that some of the old bases hold Hydra members so be careful and good luck," Fury explained to them, looking around the table.

Bucky, Bruce, Vision and Stephen weren't going as Thor was still in Asgard and they weren't needed. Would be too many people.

Everyone got up from the table, those leaving for the mission getting ready since they were leaving in two hours and needed to pack about a months worth of supplies in the Quinjet. As Steve was walking out of the room, Bucky grabbed his hand which caught Steve's attention.

Bucky pulled Steve aside to talk to him, a weary look on his face. "Bucky, what's wrong?" Steve asks, concern covering his features.

"Do you really have to go on the mission? I won't see you for a month and I really don't want anything to happen to you again... We need to make up for all the time we've lost and I don't want you to go, baby," Bucky tells Steve, slowly bringing Steve into an embrace as the tears threatened to fall from his ocean blue eyes.

"Bucky boo, I'm never leaving you. Hopefully we will get this done in less than a month so that I can come back home sooner to you. I'm sorry you can't go with us but I swear we will talk as much as possible. I'm with you till the end of the line, Bucky," Steve hugged Bucky tighter, resting his cheek against the top of Bucky's head.

Bucky whispered, "I don't want to let you go, Stevie, please stay."

Steve sighed, "you know I can't do that, Buck. They need me. And I have to go get packing so let's go do that hm?"

"Fine." The two boys let go of one another and walked to Steve's room, beginning to pack for Steve who has to leave in two hours.

Steve packs the necessities for when he isn't in his suit and he also brings a sketch book and a few pencils in case he has a break in between to draw something. He grabs the things he needs from the bathroom and puts it in his bag and zips it up. He doesn't take much, only what he needs and only a little extra so it's not too heavy.

Bucky is standing in the doorway, watching Steve intently. Bucky didn't want Steve to go but there was no way he could change his mind. He has to watch his Stevie go away for a month.

Steve started to walk to the door, raising his head to see Bucky there. Steve stopped in front of Bucky and dropped his bag. Steve immediately wrapped his arms around Bucky's waist and Bucky's arms went straight around Steve's neck and they embraced one another, holding each other tightly. Bucky laid his head on Steve, and that's when Steve felt his shirt start to get wet.

"Buck," Steve started but he started to feel the arms tighten around his neck. "I'll be back, Bucky but I have to go put this on the jet and see if anyone else needs help before we leave. Bucky, I don't want you to cry," Steve says in a low tone, tears pooling in his own eyes.

Bucky eventually let go and both of them walked hand in hand down to where the jet is so Steve could put his bag in there. By then, Bucky's tears were gone. Once that was done, Bucky and Steve began to help pack things into the jet that they thought would be needed for this month long mission.

Once they were done packing, it was time to go. Everyone was saying their goodbye and Steve and Bucky gave one another a long kiss before Steve broke it apart. Bucky groaned but Steve whispered, " don't do anything stupid till I get back."

Bucky chuckles, " how can I? You're taking all the stupid with you."

The two super soldiers give each other one last hug and kiss, tears pooling in both of their eyes. Except for Steve, who started to let the tears fall.

They let go and Steve walked into the quinjet and the door slowly closing as they started to fly up into the air. Their first stop, Syria.

They arrived in Syria about 10 hours later. They landed the jet in a field and once they got everything out, they went to the town that had sighting of Hydra men and camped out in the apartment room they got. They set everything up, cameras at the windows and binoculars.

They need to track down these Hydra bases, most are hidden and finding the men will lead the team to the hidden ones.

Steve, Natasha and Clint were the first ones to keep watch while the others slept. They were going to switch every few hours so they could keep eyes outside the entire time.

This for the team, was going to be a long month.
