"They all left the moment the Z's showed up. I'm the only one that stayed behind." Virgil was honestly stunned. Was everyone really believing that crap? Why would anyone willingly leave this place if it was so... perfect? It makes no sense. Virgil glanced over to see Roman watching me and he frowned.
"You're lying." Virgil could see people tense up as Patton shot me this fatherly warning glare.
"Virgil, that isn't..."
"Oh, it's quite alright. They all had family they wanted to make sure was safe." Chris started laughing cutting Patton off only making Virgil frown more. It just didn't make any sense. Why was he the only one suspicious here? "I don't mind answering his questions. The young man's just a bit cautious. Anyone would be smart to these days." Virgil scoffed as he shot him this smile. Something is just very off about him. Something... Something reminded Virgil of Dr. Myers, and he fucking hated it. "It's all too easy to get bitten. However..." Chris slapped Logan's back as he started to laugh even more. "...with an arm like that one, I'd like to see the zombies try."
"I doubt that would stop a z." Chris froze up with a curious glint in his eyes as he looked over at Virgil hearing his voice crack a bit. "Those fuckers could bite through anything." Logan just sighed fixing his hair as Chis narrowed his eyes
"It is scientifically impossible for a zombie to bite through..." They all froze as Virgil quite literally growled out in anger. The sound tore through his throat like acid and he could see the look on everyone's faces.
"Have you ever been bitten, Logan?" His voice was deep and raspy, dripping with obvious rage. The man just shook his head as Virgil grinned in anger baring his teeth. "Then do not presume to tell ME about a Zombie's bite." His eyes narrowed as Virgil clenched his fists tightly. "The ONLY ones that can say anything, are those too unfortunate to experience it." Virgil held his wrist closely as the phantom pain began to burn through him. "And those that do... usually end up a corpse."
"By that logic, not even you can say anything." Virgil tensed up instantly as he heard Logan say that. All his rage died down to pain as he narrowed my eyes and sighed. "After all you did just say only those who were bitten."
"Yeah... I did." Virgil simply turned away from the group and frowned. Something was very wrong here but no one is seeing it. "Are there any bedrooms?" Virgil really didn't want to do anything but he realized he wasn't going to get anywhere with them. Chris smiled over at the other as Virgil desperately tried to bite back the growl he wanted to make. "I'm a little tired."
"Right down that hall on the left." Virgil nodded and left as fast as he could, trying very hard to ignore Roman's concerned look as he watched him leave. "Ok... so where were we..."
"Assholes." Virgil groaned out as he made his way down the hall. He wasn't going to sleep. How could he sleep when something was very wrong? His nerves were shot and his gut was pulling him under hard. He HAD to get to the bottom of this. There was no way something wasn't very wrong here.
"Virgil?" Virgil froze up instantly as he turned to see Roman just staring at him. "What's going on with you?"
"Nothing. I'm just not falling for the gracious host act." Roman's eyes fell a bit as Virgil frowned.
"Can't you just relax for one minute? You're safe. There aren't any zombies..."
"BUT WHY?!" Roman reeled back at the sudden aggression as Virgil just shot him a glare and scoffed. "Why aren't there zombies? Why aren't there people? Why was Chris so eager to open the doors?"
"Logan was here." Was he seriously the only one who was concerned about any of this? "You're just pushing whatever crazy issue you have about doctors onto this guy." Virgil's eyes went dark as everything crashed in him. Roman glared the other down completely oblivious to how dead Virgil's expression had gotten over his words. "You need to take a damn chill pill. There is nothing going on. If Chris was that bad of a guy, don't you think Logan wouldn't have suggested..."
"The apocalypse changes people, Roman." His eyes darkened and Virgil hugged his hoodie tightly, his voice dull and rumbly. "And for your information... My issue with doctors is completely understandable. Dr. Myers was a psychotic monster." Virgil just stood there dead to everything as Roman took a step back in anxious concern. "And if I find that Chris is anything like him, I won't hesitate to put a bullet in his brain."
"Virgil..." Virgil spun around just left before anything more could be said, leaving Roman there alone who didn't bother to follow. He was grateful for that. Virgil could feel the tears starting to fall, and he didn't want Roman to see him cry. He'd been doing that far too much. This time... This time Virgil was going to show them. He'd show them he wasn't just scared. Something was wrong there. He just knew it.
Virgil went through as many rooms as he could before ending up in this office that finally wasn't empty. Walking in, he could feel his anxiety building. The room itself was plain and filled with papers. The desk was overloaded with shit from god knows what. Virgil sifted through the papers whilst lost in his own thoughts. There just had to be something. There had to be...
"Shit." Virgil bumped a mug over accidentally spilling its contents on some of the papers. Virgil in his panic quickly jumped to pick them all up and dry the table, only to nudge the computer mouse making the monitor spark to life. Virgil stopped on the spot, a frown on his face, as he looked up to see a word document open. "Zombie data? What the hell?" Virgil slowly sat down as he read the document, his heart plummeting with every word. Chris had been experimenting... on Z's. Virgil jumped hearing the door close only to see Chris smiling down at him. Already Virgil could feel his body starting to shake.
"Did you find something interesting?'' Virgil wasted no time jumping up and instantly going on guard as he watched Chris lock the door behind him. "It isn't nice to go snooping, you know?"
"Y-You're experimenting on the dead." Chris's eyes narrowed as his smile finally dropped. Virgil watched in horror as his eyes went cold and he couldn't help but shiver. That's what it was. The thing that reminded him so much of Dr. Myers... His cold eyes. "Where are the other scientists?"
"Poor child. You must have had such a hard time out there." Virgil tensed as Chris started to get closer and closer pushing him to the back door. He could feel the cold metal of the door against his skin as Chis grinned so psychotically. "It's just a shame you couldn't trust us."
"What are you talking about? WHERE ARE THE OTHER SCIENTISTS?!" Chis's eyes shine with such malice as he pressed Virgil hard against the door. Virgil pressed himself as far as he could into the door feeling his heart hammer in his chest as Chris gripped the handle tightly with a laugh.
"You just had to run away, didn't you?" Virgil's eyes shot wide instantly as Chris grabbed him. The door was suddenly opened as Virgil found himself getting thrown into the pitch-black room. Chris shut the door just as fast as Virgil jumped up, pounded against it in desperation. Virgil's eyes scowered the door for a handle but there was nothing on this side... nothing but the cold unrelenting metal. "You want to see the other scientists?" Virgil's body went rigid as Chris's voice came blaring through a speaker above him. "Then turn around." The audio cut out just as these bright lights turned on. Virgil could hear the groans and moans before he even willed himself to turn around. He was frozen in complete and utter fear just standing in a room completely filled with nothing but zombies.
"SOMEONE HELP ME!" Several of them turned to look at him and slowly started staggering closer as Virgil fell to the floor in complete shock. This was it...
This was where he died.
