Sofia's head whipped around, and witnessed a confused looking Neville standing at the end of the aisle."Why are you here? It's no where near 11."
Sofia looked out the library again, just making sure that the three boys hadn't came into the library looking for her.
"Uh—just wanted to start studying early I guess..." Sofia responded, but Neville knew that was a lie just from the way she said it. Also, he noticed how her eyes didn't meet his, and would only be looking down or behind him.
Neville didn't want to push, though. He was just relieved to see her.
"Why are you here so early?" Sofia clapped at him, earning a shy glance from the boy's soft eyes.
"Uh...not sure. Just—you know— I don't know..."
"It's fine, Neville. I don't really care. You don't need to explain yourself. I was only kidding."
Sofia's stomach then made a loud growling noise, so loud to where even Neville heard it. He laughed quietly,
"Hungry?"
"A bit."
"Why don't you go get some breakfast? I'll go with you if you want me to."
Sofia gulped. She had been starving ever since she had woken up that morning, but she couldn't be seen by Malfoy and his goons. She took a huge risk doing what she did earlier, and she didn't even know what type of price she would have to pay for it.
"It's alright. I'll wait until lunch."
Her stomach growled again.
"Come on, Sofia. If your stomach growls any louder they'll kick us out of the library,"
He was half joking, but half not. It was something Neville was genuinely concerned about in that moment.
"I can't..."
"Well... why not?"
Sofia thought about what had happened, and whether she should tell Neville the truth. She wouldn't mind if he walked her to the Great Hall, but being seen with her at the moment was a risk to him in Sofia's eyes.
She sighed in defeat, and motioned Neville to follow her.
Sofia found a table in the corner of the library and they both sat down in front of each other. Sofia started to talk about how her original plan was to get breakfast, but then was ruined by Malfoy, and her own impulse decisions.
Neville was impressed of course. He thought it was cool that it took her no time to whip out her wand if it meant she could protect someone. He wasn't that brave. He never would be.
"So, you're afraid of going to the Great Hall because of Malfoy?"
Sofia just nodded.
"I understand. But, you can't starve all day because of him."
"Yeah, but is eating worth getting my head kicked in by Malfoy and his friends?"
She let her back settle into the chair, and crossed her arms as she kept her eyes glued to Neville's. But, her eyes drifted off.
Neville shrugged, "I—"
Neville was about to say something, but it seemed as if he just decided against it.
"You're right... I would probably just do the same and stay in the library for a bit."
They both sat in silence for a few moments. Neville noticed the way Sofia stared blankly out the window beside their table.
