Neville never ended up going back to sleep that morning. Every minute that went by he worried more about Sofia. He wanted to go her dorm and check on her, but he thought that it might be weird.
He sat in the Great Hall with his friends, playing with his eggs with his fork. Neville was worried that Sofia would force herself to get out of bed and come walking through the corridor. He kept checking, and luckily, she never came. He missed her dearly of course, but he cared more about her well being than him being able to see her.
Neville didn't tell anyone the finer details about that morning. He didn't tell them that they practically had cuddled, and that Sofia had cried her eyes out against his shoulder and chest. He kept thinking back to it. He wanted to feel the way he felt in the moment she laid her head down on his shoulder. It was exhilarating.
Neville knew he would probably never feel something like that ever again.
He saw a figure at the entrance of the Great Hall, and quickly whipped his head just to find Ginny walking in. Luckily, Sofia wasn't with her.
Hermione, Lily, and now Ginny were all here. It seemed as if Hermione lived up to their agreement about letting Sofia rest.
When Hermione told them about what had happened with Neville, they weren't completely shocked. Lily had been up with Sofia for a lot of those sleepless nights, when she had such terrible nightmares about her father. But, Lily was just better at hiding her exhaustion.
"She's been running off of cigarettes and will power ever since Sunday night. It's been terrible." Lily told the group as she stuffed her mouth with a sausage.
"But rest assured she's resting and will be fine by tonight!" Ginny added with optimism laced in her voice.
Neville nodded at them, and turned his head back to the entrance. He waited for her. And waited. And waited a bit more. He was just making sure she wouldn't try anything slick.
Neville's exhaustion was hitting him as well, though. He was having restless nights just like Sofia. Not to the extent of not sleeping at all like her, but he would wake up at least twice thinking about her. And of course, he couldn't forget about the fact that he hadn't slept since four this morning.
Sooner than Neville had hoped, the school day had started. It was difficult to stay awake during Divination. Luna kept on having to shake his arm every time he would drift off. But, he didn't stop worrying about Sofia.
Ginny, Hermione, and Lily would take turns going to check up on her during the day. When lunch finally came along, Neville thought he could literally pass about from being so tired.
"Hey, Neville!" Ginny shook his arm, and he jolted up in his spot at the table.
"Eat something, you'll feel more energized," Ginny pushed his plate in front of him that she had put some food on for him. He nodded, and took a few bites of his lunch.
"Also, try to actually get some rest tonight. Your falling asleep on the place we all eat on." Ginny smiled with a playful look on her face.
Neville laughed a bit, and continued to eat his lunch.
Lily then coughed in an attempt to remind her friends of something. She obviously didn't want to tell Neville herself, considering she was still angry at him over their argument they had the weekend before. But, Neville's feelings were reciprocated.
"Oh, right!" Hermione said getting up from her seat and walked over to Neville. She stood over him, waiting for his undivided attention.
He looked up at her, and furrowed his eyebrows.
