I screamed at my dad as I made my way in front of John to protect him just in case. Meanwhile, Wesley tackled him to the ground. A bullet sounded, permeating the air as the bullet from my dad's gun penetrated the wall beside the Baptist and I. Immediate relief flooded through me as Wesley stole dad's gun from him and skidded it to the other side of the room.
"Brother John, what do you want me to do with this sinner?"Wesley asked John as he held my dad's hands behind his back. "He isn't worthy."
"Fuck you." Nick growled at the Peggie on top of him. "Get away from my daughter, John!" Dad shouted as he struggled against the cultist, glaring at the Baptist. "I'm gonna fucking kill you!"
"Just tie him up. He isn't atoning today, Wesley." John ordered calmly as Wesley did as he was told.
"Be still." Wesley demanded as he began tying Nick up.
"I wasn't going to damn atone and give into that psychopath anyway." My dad scowled.
John then placed his hand on my waist, attempting to comfort me. "Darling, stay right here. I'm going to etch the Deputy's sin onto his flesh so it'll be displayed for all to see." He gave my butt a sight tap as he strutted over to the unconscious Corey laying beside Nick.
My dad growled at the Baptist, but John didn't pay any attention to him as he ripped the Deputy's shirt open. John then pulled out his tattoo gun from his trench coat and started carving the word, 'Wrath,' into Corey's chest. The Deputy suddenly woke up as John wrote the sin into his skin.
"Stop." Corey grunted in agony; he wanted to escape John, but Wesley had his gun aimed at the Deputy. Corey knew he couldn't do a thing. He began squirming.
"Hold still... It's supposeed to say 'Wrath' not 'rat.'" John scolded the Deputy.
That comment made me want to giggle because that was exactly what he told me.
"Sin must be exposed so it may be absolved. If we hide our sin, we hide ourselves... You will not hide any longer. Your true self will spill out on this floor for all to see... Ahhhhh..." The Baptist took a deep breath, smiling, as he placed his tattoo gun back in his coat, stood up and stepped away from Corey, examining his artwork. "Perfect." John chuckled. "If Mohammed won't come to the mountain, then bring the mountain to Mohammed. Let's begin!" He raised his arms up in the air and walked to the altar, a Peggie handing him his Bible.
My dad was laying on his stomach, his hands tied behind his back. "Rory! You need to get out of here!"
I shook my head no at my father.
Wesley grabbed Corey's arms and forced him to walk up to John.
Jerome and I were standing beside John as Peggies brought Mary May and Grace forward to stand on each side of Corey.
Suddenly, the Baptist smacked Jerome's Bible out of his hands as it tumbled to the ground in front of the Deputy and placed his copy of the Word of Joseph into Jerome's hands.
"Sorry." Mary whispered to Corey; the Peggie forced her to look back at John.
"I thought a friendly face might make your Atonement easier..." John told the Deputy as he gripped the back of Jerome's neck and turned him toward Grace. "Our devoted..." The Baptist began, wanting Jerome to repeat after him.
The Pastor glared back at John for a second as all eyes were on him. There was a cultist with a gun aimed at Jerome's head, but he refused to repeat John. The Peggie tapped him with his gun, threatening Jerome.
