"No! No, I am NOT letting you go, Rory." John sternly intervened, grabbing my hips. "I can't let you leave, darling."
"John, if I don't, he will kill you and Jacob both. You know I can't let that happen." I retorted, John spinning me around to look at him. "You have no idea what Corey is capable of." I whispered in the Baptist's ear. "He's a monster... Dep killed all of Jacob's Chosen and Judges. He is malicious, cruel... He could easily kill you right now."
"And you know I can't let you leave me." John stated, his ocean blue eyes gazing down into mine. "Please, don't go, Rory. I just got you back."
"Your life is on the line, along with Jacob's." I shook my head. "There is no other goddamn choice here..."
"Yeah right. You keep telling yourself that fucking bullshit." John gripped my hips harder.
"Please don't make this harder than it has to be, John. Just trust me in what I'm about to do." I muttered, staring up at him; tears began to fill my eyes, threatening to spill down my cheeks. "I have to go. I'm leaving with Corey." I spoke, promulgating everyone in the room.
Immediately, John's face fell.
I had to take my eyes off of him or I'd start crying right then and there. "John... I can't do this."
"... What?" The Baptist questioned, an incredulous gleam in his eyes.
I sighed, "Us... I know it and you know it, John. Don't act like this is such a damn surprise... We can't be together." Tears began stinging my eyes as I looked down at my bare feet. "I'm sorry."
"... If that's how you truly feel, Rory." John spoke quietly, an unreadable expression on his face.
"Let's go, brother." Jacob instructed, releasing Jason, whom was half-dead, and threw him to the ground; then, he grabbed John by the shoulder and urged him towards the door.
Once, John and Jacob left, a few minutes passed and Jason died right there on the floor. He died a gruesome death: bleeding out. I glared down at his body in disgust with an odd feeling of happiness deep down inside as I spat on his body. Revenge feels so sweet...
"I'm proud of you, Rory." Corey placed his hand on my waist. "You made the right choice. I've missed you so much." He chastely gave my cheek a kiss while I flinched before he dragged me downstairs.
I had to do whatever it took to save John and Jacob. Did I do the right thing? I mean... I'd like to think I did...
After we made it outside, my dad's plane came into view.
"Corey? Did you steal my dad's plane back from John?" I asked, gulping in fear.
"Yep. Hop in the back." Rook ushered me in the plane.
Once we got settled in and be turned on the plane, the engine roared to life.
"Do you know how to fly this thing?" I inquired. "I can fly."
"I have no clue what I'm doing, but I'll figure it out."
"Okay." I rolled my eyes as I looked up at the sky.
"Nick? Come in Nick." Corey spoke through his CB. "I stole your plane back."
"Hey Deputy! That's awesome! You gotta bring that bird back to me. It's our only way outta this shit storm. Now I need to make sure they didn't mess with it. Run it through some tests." My dad happily replied over the radio. "You got this. All you gotta do is keep it steady and you'll be fine!"
A few minutes went by and we were already up in the air, flying toward my house.
"Yeap, you'd a gone into a full barrel roll by now of somethin' was wrong. Well, guess the cult's got SOME competent pilots. Goddamn if breakin' into John's ranch of all places and makin' it out in one piece. Way to show those fuckers! They must'a been mystified. Man, what I'd give to have seen the looks on their faces. Stupid Peggies... That's all they do around here. Show up at your door like they did to me, and take whatever the hell they want! Even your own fucking daughter! Anyways... Do you have any update on my Rory?"
"I got her back, sir." Corey responded over the CB.
"Great! Me and her are gonna have a little talk when she gets home... And you know, I shoulda figured everythin' would be alright. That plane's never let a single one of us Ryes down. Don't know what we would have done if we lost that plane."
"She's a beauty that's for sure. Your plane and your daughter."
I rolled my eyes; all my dad did was worry about his goddamn plane.
"... Still, it makes my goddamn blood boil that I gotta uproot from the place my family worked so hard to put together. They earned every inch of this land with blood and sweat. And now I gotta lose it to some man-bunned little twerp and his posse of inbreeds? Fuck it! You don't mess with a Rye without it leavin' a scar!" My dad yelled through the radio.
I huffed in annoyance at his little speech and crossed my arms over my chest. This was going to be a long fucking day... I miss John already... Did I do the right damn thing or not?
"We're close to your house, Nick. It's not too far from where we're at."
"Great. Now, people say that landing is the hardest part, but I'll show ya how to do it just right. Just get the runway in front of you while steadily lowering your altitude. I have a feelin' that you'll have an awesome landing, partner. Bring the plane to me. You'll see me wavin'."
