—Four Days Later—
"Just drink the goddamn shake, John." I snapped, raising the bottle of vanilla ensure to his lips. "Stop being so contrary."
"It's disgusting, Rory." John made a face, taking a whiff of the nutrition drink. "I want fucking chocolate."
"Grow up. You're not a baby."
"Yes, I am. I'm your baby."
I shot him a glare as I forced him to drink some of the ensure.
John got some pink ensure on his top lip and mustache and seductively licked it off. "You love taking care of me."
I playfully rolled my eyes with a small smile. "Sometimes, John. Only sometimes."
There was a knock at the door as Dr. Burnes came into the room. "Hey. I'm here to check on John. How are you doing, sir?"
"I'm feeling much better. Can I go home now? I'm getting restless in this fucking bed." The Baptist replied, shifting his weight in the bed.
"We need to wait a couple more days. Your progress is quite remarkable since you nearly died four, five days ago." Levi responded as he sat on the swivel chair next to John's bed. "Now, I am going to check your breathing. Can you sit up for me?"
"Sure, doc." John replied, slowly sitting up.
"You having any symptoms, John?" The surgeon questioned, pen in hand, ready to write on his clipboard.
"Um.. I'm having a little trouble breathing, but it's not a huge cause for concern." John stated.
"Any other symptoms?"
There was silence.
"Are you constipated, John?"
"...No." The youngest Seed brother answered, a slight pink color now on both his cheeks. "...Maybe."
—The Next Day—
Jacob drove me to the Seed ranch while John was still in the hospital, recovering. Wesley, Brandon, and Jason were in the bed of Jacob's truck; they were there just in case any resistance members tried to ambush Jake and I. About ten minutes into the car ride, I became slightly bored so I turned on the radio. Immediately, 'Oh John' filled the air.
I giggled, "Wow. This is the first time I've heard this."
Jacob grunted, "God, I've heard this a gazillion damn times. Shut that shit off. Please."
Chuckling, I turned the radio down.
"It's time for some real goddamn music." He flashed me a small smile as he retrieved a CD from the center console; he then turned the radio back up. "Ahhhh."
A song I instantly recognized as 'Only You' sounded from the speakers. "I should've known." I laughed. "Such a damn good song, Jacob. You have great taste."
"You fucking know it."
About thirty minutes later, Jacob parked outside of John's ranch.
"I appreciate this, Jacob. Thank you." I thanked the eldest Seed brother.
He nodded in response. "If you need me, call."
"Will do. See ya." I hopped out of Jacob's truck and was getting ready to shut the door when his voice prevented me from doing so.
"Wait. You got your gun?" Jacob asked incredulously. "If not, I got an extra."
I grinned as I unholstered my glock, waving it up in the air.
"I hope you're a good shot with that thing."
"Why would I have a gun if I don't know how to shoot it?"
"Good question."
I chuckled at his response, "Goodnight, Jacob."
"Night."
I closed the passenger door as Jason, Brandon, and Wesley jumped out of the back of Jacob's truck. They were here to protect me and they'd call for backup if needed. The oldest Seed brother waited until I was inside before he left. The main reason why I went back home was because I needed to sleep in a real bed. Those godawful metal chairs in the hospital were definitely not for sleeping. Yawning, I placed my glock on John's nightstand in his room and quickly changed into a see-through lavender nightgown; I was by myself so it didn't really matter what I wore. Jason, Brandon, Wesley, and a few other cultists were supposed to be guarding the ranch for me and switching shifts every so often outside. If a resistance member was sighted, I would be escorted to Jacob's bunker as out of sight and as fast as possible. Anyway, I yawned once more before I fell onto the soft, expensive Gucci blankets on John's bed; to be honest, the feeling of these sheets made me feel out of this world.
Right as I was dozing off, a knock sounded on my door, causing me to jerk as my eyes snapped open instantly. I whined in annoyance as I slowly got up from the warm, comfy, lavish bed and made my way to the door. As soon as I opened the bedroom door, I immediately felt hands grab my throat while they raised me high in the air and slammed my back against the floor, knocking the wind out of me. Looking up, the perpetrator was Jason... That damn motherfucker.
I tried my absolute best to dig my nails into his wrists in a feeble attempt to get him to loosen his chokehold, but he wouldn't budge. The man above me was strong and muscular... I knew I couldn't out strengthen him, but I knew I had to try to do something. An idea popped into my head as my vision started to get black spots. I reached for my glock on the nightstand, but I was a good six inches away from it. My fucking luck.
"No, you don't, bitch." Jason growled as he choked me harder, the moon shone through the window, reflecting off his hazel eyes, giving them a darker look. His eyes were glowing with malevolence... resembling the devil's eyes... So much hate and abhor in them...
For what? What did I do to this man to deserve this?
About a minute passed as my vision gradually became darker and darker; pretty soon, my world turned to black...
