Corey and I were laying beside each other on the cold ass floor as Brandon shot the both of us with a goddamn Bliss bullet. I got shot in the arm while Corey was shot in the neck, forcing us both to see green and gradually slip into unconsciousness...
—Two Hours Later—
I woke up underwater; my mouth was open, causing water to flood into my lungs. My eyes and lungs started burning from the Bliss filled water as Jason was choking me underwater.
John's voice was muffled, but I could still hear him. "We must wash away our past. We must expose our sins. We must atone..."
Jason harshly brought me above water as I spurted water out onto his face, coughing up the nasty Bliss river water.
"Fuck you." I growled at the Peggie as he forcefully dragged me over to John; my foot then hit a rock, causing me to trip into the water face first.
"For only then may we stand in the light of God and walk through his Gate unto Eden." John preached as he closed his book, staring at me intently, his blue eyes shining bright.
Jason pulled me back up out of the river, shoving me forward. "Clumsy little bitch."
I glanced beside John to see the cultist named Brandon from earlier, gripping Corey's shoulders as the youngest Seed brother turned toward them. John cringed when he seen the Deputy.
"Not this one." John scowled at Brandon and handed his Bible over to Jason, glaring at my boyfriend. "This one's not clean."
Suddenly, John plunged Corey under the water by his shoulders and began drowning him.
"NO! NO!" I screamed as I trudged toward the pair, but was stopped by a set of strong hands grabbing my waist. "JOHN, STOP!"
Jason gripped my waist tightly as my arms flailed; I did everything possible to try and get out of this Peggie's stronghold.
"Hold still, heretic." Jason hissed as I squirmed, almost escaping to help Corey.
"Get your hands off me! Motherfucker!" I kicked Jason's shin as he let go of me.
John finally raised my boyfriend out of the river, Corey coughing up the Bliss water.
"Ahhhh! Shhh." John taunted the Deputy, getting ready to shove him under the water again, but was cut off by Joseph.
"Do you mock the Cleansing, John?" The Father's voice boomed as he stood on the bank of the river, watching John.
"No, Joseph..." John replied as an indescribable look shone in his eyes; he glanced at me, seeming shameful.
"Shhh. You have to love them, John. Do not let your sin prevent that. Bring those two to me." Joseph ordered as he held out his arms.
Brandon and Jason brought Corey and I over to the Father as John followed. Joseph then placed his right hand on my left cheek and his left hand on Corey's right cheek. He gazed at us both as if he were staring into our souls.
"Despite what the both of you have done, you two are not beyond salvation. You're not here by accident or by chance. You two are here by the grace of God. You've been given a gift. Now it remains to be seen whether you choose to embrace it... or to cast it aside. You, Aurora, are special. Keep that in mind." Joseph spoke, surveying me the entire time; then, he released our cheeks, turning to John. "These two shall reach the Atonement. Or the Gates of Eden shall be shut to you, John." He intimately brought their foreheads together.
"Yes, Joseph." John closed his eyes as Joseph pulled away.
The Father suddenly turned around and strolled away, not looking back.
The youngest Seed brother looked at Corey and I, an unreadable expression on his face. "You two will confess. Every sin you've ever committed. No matter how petty, no matter how small... I will pull from you." He chuckled menacingly. "Then, we'll see if you two are worthy of Atonement." John eyed Brandon as Brandon went over to Corey, grabbing him.
"Leave him alone!" I yelled as Jason held my arms behind my back, preventing me from moving. "LEAVE HIM ALONE!"
Tears rolled down my cheeks as the cultist began to drag him toward a van.
"I'll come back for you, sweetheart!" Corey shouted as he was yanked into the back of the cultists' van.
I looked down at my feet, too tired to struggle anymore. My mind knew that we were both doomed and we probably wouldn't make it out of here alive, but for some reason, my heart still had hope... Hope in Corey. Tears continued to cascade down my face as they burned my eyes and stained my face. The Bliss made my vision all sparkly and green and it was very difficult to describe. My head started to become heavy as I seen footsteps in front of me. I raised my head to see that it was John.
He placed his hand on my cheek as if he were attempting to comfort me. His eyes peered into mine like we were in a staring contest.
"Your name is Aurora, right?" John asked as he gave me a small smile.
I glared at him, not answering.
"I'm trying to be nice here." He replied, retracting his hand from my face and placing both of his hands on his hips. "Aurora is your name?"
"Rory." I curtly responded, still glowering at the man before me.
"Rory is short for Aurora, am I correct?"
"Why the fuck do you care so much about my goddamn name?!"
"Because Aurora Rye..." He laughed trying to keep his cool. "I'm just trying to get to know you better."
"How did you figure out my name?" I sternly questioned, anger coursing throughout my body. "If you know my name without me telling you, you must know everything about me, am I correct?"
John leaned in closer to me, his breathing fanning my face. "I can find out anything I want about you, darling. Easy." His ocean blue eyes sparkled, staring into mine. "I just want you to confess and say... Yes. Can you do that for me, Aurora? I don't want to force you to say it. But it's a quite simple word."
"No... I want. Corey. Back." I snarled at the youngest Seed brother. "What the FUCK are you going to do with him? Huh?! Tell me."
"Your precious Deputy?" John laughed, clenching his stomach. "Say Yes and I will bring you to him."
