[Sera's POV]

Before I started to come around, voices were the first things I registered.

All of them were much too familiar to me.

Groaning, I lifted my head with great difficulty to see Taehyung strapped to a chair, talking with my father... and Jae.

"T-Tae?" I mumbled, trying to shake the aching from my head. "What is going on?"

Upon hearing my voice, all three heads snapped in my direction.

"Ah, looks like my dearest girl has finally awoken from her slumber." The man who was committing high treason strut over to me with the sickest grin on his face. "Looks like you won't miss the party after all."

Still not quite sure about what was going on aside from the obvious fact I was abducted, all I did was throw a nasty glare back at him.

"Well, let's bring you up to speed, hm?" Walking back to Taehyung, he turned to face me. "Your secret admirer here came to me about a rather personal request. I housed him and spoke kindly with him. However, it seems like he quite lacks respect and listened in on something that, well, wasn't for his ears to hear. As for you dear, I gave you so many chances to prove to me that you are worthy of the queen I made you to be, but it seems like you have become rebellious. I no longer have use for such a disgraceful daughter as yourself. So, I have come to the conclusion that I will punish both of you rebels with death. To silence your friend here, and to teach you a lesson," my father explained.

My heart tremored at the words 'death,' but Taehyung laughed

"You think killing me will be able to silence me?" he said. "You're supposed to be a king, but you're denser than I thought you to be."

At this insult, my father turned sharply to Taehyung. "And what afforded you that decision child?"

"Do you not think we would have backed up our conversation? Do you not think we retain your words on a record? How else would my eavesdropping produce fruit?" Taehyung answered.

Wait, why was Taehyung telling father about the files?

"On record? What kind of record do you speak of?" father questioned.

"It's housed in the Rulers' Case."

My eyebrows nearly jumped through my hairline.

That conversation is that classified?

The Rulers' Case is a specialized online case that contains all the Royal Court's most important files. It is only accessible to the current rulers of the time, being the most protected sector of the internet.

But why would Taehyung tell father where it is?

Plus, how was it even possible for Namjoon to gain access and store the conversation there?

However, father merely laughed at this reply.

"The Rulers' Case? Ha! There's not a chance that it's in there. You are bluffing, you are bluffing son."

Taehyung offered a smile. "I very well could be, but what if I'm not? Can you afford such a mistake?"

Taehyung's warning seemed to have struck a chord as father did not say anything. He just stared continuously at Taehyung until a small part of his sinister grin made it back to his mouth.

"Well, perhaps you are right. There is no rush to do away with the queen... but the same cannot be said about you, prince of Heila." My eyes widened in terror, for I knew what my father was thinking. "Kill him." With a nod, Jae revealed a gun tucked in the back of his belt and raised it to Taehyung's head.

But Taehyung did not show an ounce of fear. With a painful smile, he said, "You'll find it difficult to cover up a royal's death."

"We'll see about that," Jae replied.

"No! Stop! Don't! Please don't-"BANG!

Taehyung's body slumped to the ground, lifeless.

He was dead.

A scream ripped through my throat as I cried out in anguish.

How could I? How could I have let it come to this?

Staring at Taehyung's listless body on the floor through tears, I couldn't express the sorrow in my heart.

The last thing I would remember is his eyes that were so ardently burning into mine.

Even though he did not say it, I knew what he meant.

It's not your fault. It's not your fault Sera.

Facing death, he was still thinking about me, thinking how I would hold myself accountable for his demise.

And even more, the message he also relayed was,

I'll always love you. Don't forget about me.

"Taehyung..." I wept.

Taehyung was gone.
