keep breathing

[Jimin's POV]

I didn't know how long I was down for, but it felt like an eternity.

Eventually, my guards released me, helping me up. Everything was a little fuzzy and my ears seemed to be a bit muffled, but I was pretty much fine.

Just a little shaken.

Sitting about a foot away from me was Sera.

Her eyes were wide as her hands shook. It seemed like she had difficulty breathing as Yoongi sat in front of her, his hands on her shoulders as he tried to calm her down.

But her body looked okay.

There were no cuts, no blood.

So, I surveyed the wreckage of the explosion.

It seemed like everyone escaped before any damage could be done as there wasn't another body in sight.

I heaved a huge sigh of relief.

But they say there's always a calm before a storm.

A deep groan could be heard as a sudden gasp came from Sera's mouth.

"J-Jungkook," she stuttered. There was the shuffling of multiple pairs of feet.

I turned to see Jungkook laying on his front. His breaths shuddered with his entire body as blood started coating the pavement.

His blood.

I hadn't noticed it before, but there was a huge gash that cut across his back.

"Oh my gosh, J-Jungkook," Sera, cried. Her hands shook as she pressed on the wound.

I immediately jumped to my feet, ripping off my jacket and pressing it on the injury.

It was completely drenched in seconds.

"Yoongi, call emergency."

"Already did."

"Hand me your jackets," I commanded. Ten jackets settled beside me. I continued to direct people to fold and press them on his wound, trying to stop the bleeding.

I hated that this was all I could do.

"Jimin..." I heard Jungkook moan.

"Yes, I'm right here," I answered, not releasing the pressure on his cut.

God, where was the ambulance?

"Make... Sera... Leave," he whispered.

I glanced at Sera who was on her knees, crying her eyes out.

Her entire body shook as she stared at the blood coating her dress while she held onto Jungkook's hand.

"N-no. I'm not l-leaving you," she said weakly.

"Sera-"

"No, please, Jimin. I don't want to leave."

But it wouldn't be the right decision for her to stay. I had to protect her, and that included her mental state.

This would leave an imprint for a lifetime.

Especially for a princess who couldn't stand violence and gore.

She wouldn't be able to handle this.

"Yoongi, please escort Sera back to the suite," I ordered.

"Yes, sir," Yoongi said. He turned to Sera, gently removing her hand from Jungkook's.

She didn't even have the strength to fight back.

"No, please. Jimin... Let me stay," she begged.

My heart ached to see her like this, but I turned away, allowing Yoongi to pull her aside.

"Hey Kook, keep breathing. Just keep breathing."

"Yes... sir," he said.

Then he passed out.

Anxiously, I paced the sterile hallways outside of the operation room.

He had already been in there for hours.

"Sir, I think it's best if you rest," one of the guards suggested.

I shook my head. "No... no." He pressed his lips together and said no more.

Suddenly, the blurred doors opened and the doctor stepped out.

All ten of us stood, running up to him.

"He's stable. The wound was deep but didn't hit anything vital. However, it will leave a scar. He has a strong and healthy body so he should be able to recover in a week or two."

Just like that, I collapsed onto the nearest chair.

All the stress, worry and fear were finally alleviated.

"Uh sir, we have a problem."

"They're an anti-monarchy group called 'The Hooligans,'" Namjoon said, bringing up a picture onto the screen.

It seemed like some sort of logo.

A crown on fire.

"We've been keeping tabs on them for a while, but they haven't had much activity in the past few years." He clicked his remote again, flipping to a video.

It was security footage of the mall exploding.

I hadn't realized the magnitude of the blast until I saw it in full.

Debris, rocks and other particles flew into the air at maybe 100km/h, splitting the pavement as they landed.

I saw Sera jumping on me, pushing me onto the floor.

I saw the boulder crush Jungkook's back.

His back which would have been my head.

My heart clenched.

This wouldn't be the first time he had saved my life.

I realized how much I truly owed him.

I promised to properly thank him later.

Then, a man who had his face covered with a mask and baseball cap came, firing shots into the ground.

One round. Two rounds. Three.

The footage lasted a matter of seconds, but it had felt like hours to me.

"And that's not all," Namjoon said. There's more? "Yoongi found this when he got back to the suite." A photo of the side of the suite's wall appeared on the screen.

It was the same mark, the burning crown.

Along with it, written in big, bold, red letters, it read,

A KING ISN'T MADE, IT'S BORN.
