[Jimin's POV]
As Sera stepped outside and the heavy metal door closed, I turned to look at Taehyung.
"I don't know what happened in there, but I'm sorry I didn't come in time," I started.
Gosh, what am I even doing talking to a dead man? I didn't even know what I wanted to say. I stood there for a few more moments before finding my voice.
"But whatever you did in there, I want to thank you, because whatever you did, it meant that Sera could live. I will forever be grateful to you." Taking hold of his hand, I placed my other hand over it. "I promise I will protect her now, and that I will never again lose a family member like this ever again. You can hold me to that and... send lightning to strike me or something if I don't."
I was half expecting Taehyung to rise and shoot some snarky comment back at me, but he was as still as ever.
So this really is goodbye then.
"Thanks, Tae," was all I said as I bent down and gave him one last firm hug. "Thank you."
[Sera's POV]
I heard the door open and close. Jimin stood in front of the door, standing tall and determined.
"You okay?" I asked as I approached him.
Up close though, you could tell he had been crying. His eyes weren't red or anything, but they didn't shine like they normally did.
"Yeah, yeah I'm okay," he answered, drawing in a large breath. "You ready to go?"
"You can wait for me downstairs. I'll just be a second," I said.
I wanted to properly say goodbye and send Taehyung off.
I opened the metal door again and entered the cold silent room.
"Hey Tae," I whispered, "Jimin and I have to leave soon, so I just wanted you to know this. I know you can hear me, somewhere in this universe," I sniffed and wiped a tear away, "but I just wanted to say, thank you. Thank you for always being there, for giving me strength whenever I needed it, but now I'll be strong for the both of us. I don't know what promises Jimin made you, but I will be strong for him and I this time, so you don't have to worry about me anymore. You can rest well now." I gave him a slight kiss on the back of his hand and continued, "I love you Tae. I'll never forget you and your love for me." I rose from my position and stared at his beautiful face for the last time. "Until we meet again." I then took hold of the blanket and covered his body with it.
With those final words, I turned and left the room.
Until we meet again, Tae.
The next day, we had a funeral for Taehyung.
It was a beautiful day, the sort of day that was beautiful to Taehyung. Light grey clouds flitted across the sky as mist pooled and swirled around our feet, setting a dewy smell into the air.
It was as if mother earth was mourning with us, acknowledging how precious of a human being we had lost.
The sombre music started playing as Jimin and I walked behind Taehyung's family as the casket was carried down the aisle. It was then set onto the table and opened to reveal Taehyung resting peacefully in a splendorous prince's suit. Pinned on his chest were his military medals along with the emblem of Heila.
Hand in hand with Jimin, we proceeded to our seats at the front, but Jimin did not sit down. He approached the casket and took something glistening out of his pocket.
It was a pin of Islac's emblem.
He then bent down and carefully fastened it with the other pins.
The funeral lasted for about an hour as people shared heartfelt stories about Taehyung.
It was wonderful to hear about everything he had done, not only in my life but in the life of all those around him.
I never really got to know him deep enough. That's the only thing I regret.
So after talking with Jimin, we agreed to invite some of Taehyung's family and close friends over for dinner and see what Taehyung was like to them.
I owe at least that much to him.
The next morning, both Jimin and I were called down to a security meeting.
As we all settled down, Namjoon walked up to the front of the room and played a recording.
It was the recording Taehyung died for.
"This would be sufficient evidence to indict King Lair," he said, pressing a button on his laptop. "We also have this which was anonymously supplied to us this morning." He then played the recording.
All of us watched curiously. It was a video of the press conference where Jae knocked me out.
In the shot, it was clear that Jimin wasn't touching me when the lights went out and that someone evidently grabbed me from behind.
"We're still not sure who sent it, but it should be more than enough to prove the monarchy to be trustworthy again. I think we should-" Namjoon was cut off as Yoongi suddenly burst into the room with guards around him.
"Kim Namjoon, you are under arrest for aiding in conspiring against his and her majesty." We all watched, dumbfounded as the guards behind him came and cuffed Namjoon's wrists.
"Yoongi, what is the meaning of this-" but Yoongie cut Jimin off by throwing something onto the desk in front of us. "Wait- Namjoon, is this true?" There was no answer from him, but I was more concerned about the black object sitting in front of me.
It looked like a recording device.
Hesitantly, I reached out and hit the play button.
It was Namjoon, talking to my father.
