TW/CW: Death, bruises/cuts/blood
~"Dream this place is...." Techoblade's words seemed to fall away from him, leaving him nearly speechless. He looked around, craning his neck to look at the details of the inside of the ginormous prison as he walked close behind Dream. The entire place was made from blocks predominantly from the nether, like obsidian and blackstone. Dream had told him all about the security measures the place had that him and Sam had come up with, and he would never admit it; but even Techno himself was a bit intimidated.
The place was overall extremely gloomy and dark, and probably would've made the hairs on Techno's arms and the back of his neck stand up if he wasn't as secure in himself as he was. He wasn't necessarily scared, but he wasn't amazed either- it was more like somewhere in between the two. He couldn't describe the feeling, all he knew was the place made him uneasy deep, deep down.
"Insane, isn't it?" Dream said, looking back at Techno for a moment. The bottoms of both the mens' boots clicked against the ground as they walked, echoing off the walls of the barren inside. Any windows in the walls held bars instead of glass, making the place look even more unwelcoming.
Techno caught a glance at Dream's face before he turned back around, as Dream had his mask strapped to the side of his head rather than covering his face like he did the majority of the time. He noticed a cut that looked like it was still healing in his skin stretching down the middle of his cheek, along with an evil glint in his eye. Though, he supposed the sinister look could've just been his mind playing tricks on him.
"Right, so uh... it's all just feels like a bit much.." Techno said, still a bit flabbergasted. When Dream asked Techno if he wanted to 'see something', he was not expecting this.
Dream stopped in his tracks, turning to Techno. "Techno, I- Sam, and I made this place for a reason. We can't have people going around committing these crimes and acts of injustice, just for me to slap them on the wrist and let them go. It's happened too many times, and so I decided to.. put my food down, in a sense. You get it, right?" a sly smirk played across his face, Techno looked back at him with his regular poker face.
"Sure, but.. what exactly does one have to do to be put in this place?" Techno asked.
Dream eyed the man, for a second he started second guessing his decision that bringing Techno here was a good idea. He paused for a moment, shrugging. "Hm. I suppose it depends." he tilted his head slightly, turning back and walking again. "Follow me."
The green-hooded man was equipped in his full netherite set of armor as per usual, lightly swinging his sword by his right leg as he walked. "What is it that you needed to show me in here anyway?" Techno asked, shoving his pink hair behind his shoulder.
"Patience." Dream said bluntly, and Techno followed him into an elevator. Dream pressed a button, and the door shut as the floor jerked below them. Dream stood his ground firmly, as the electronic sound of the machinery whirred when they ascended to the top floor of the prison. The doors separated open, and the two men stepped out.
"Holy..." Techno caught himself before he could swear, as his eyes scanned over hundreds of jail cell doors that stretched as far as his eyes could see. The doors were made out of cement-like material just like the majority of the place, that included square openings in the top half of each door with iron bars; the only way to see into the cells.
They walked past three cells, before Dream stopped in front of one that had a plaque next to it that read the numbers '404' in bold, white letters. He pulled the smiley-face mask back over his face, looking into the cell, then back at Techno. He stepped back, as Techno stepped forward.
Techno looked into the dull cell, a wave of heat washing over his whole body at the sight of the boy he used to live with and even take care of: Tommy.
The boy was sitting at the back wall of the medium-sized cell. Cuffs around his wrists and ankles connected to the wall behind him with long chains that laid around his small figure on the floor. He sat hugging his legs that were pulled up to his chest, his face buried in his knees. His body shivered slightly, probably because of the chilly weather that poured in from the only other window in the cell, carved into the wall high above his head. It seemed like he still hadn't realized the two men were even there yet.
Suddenly Techno remembered, he'd been too busy working on his secret organization to remember that the fight between Dream and Tommy & Tubbo had already taken place; and it was very clear who'd won.
Techno stood facing the cell, but looked away from Tommy. "What about Tubbo? Where's he at?" Techno asked softly, Tommy's head shot up as he heard his voice.
"Dream?" his broken voice asked quietly in desperation. Techno looked back at him to see him wipe tears away from his blotchy cheeks, his chest tightened at the sight of him. He looked pretty messed up from the fight; messy hair, dirty clothes, one of his forearms was wrapped in bandage, and his face was cut up and bruised.
"About that..." Dream replied, and when Techno turned back to him he found the man wiping dry blood from his sword with a cloth. Techno's eyes widened in surprise as he realized: He's dead. Tubbo is dead.
Techno turned back to Tommy who was staring down at the floor sniffling, his eyes looking.. empty. The chains rattled as he moved back, somehow trying to push himself further back against the wall. His apathetic eyes scanned the floor, glossed over with silent tears.
"Tommy?" Techno asked in a quiet whisper, almost, almost feeling bad. Techno knew how to make himself numb or even callous to situations where he knew it was simply better for him to not care, it was almost involuntary at this point. The man reminded himself all the times Tommy had betrayed his trust, had only ever treated him like a weapon of war and never as a human being with feelings. It wasn't that he felt like Tommy necessarily deserved to be here; isolated, restrained and now with a dead best friend. He just knew he couldn't let himself feel bad, he couldn't let himself feel anything. He knew he probably couldn't even help Tommy even if he did care.
"Techno? Techno!" Tommy was suddenly standing up and trying to walk towards the cell door without realizing he was still chained to the wall. The chains made the same rattling noise as he walked, but pulled taught once he reached a certain point and yanked his arms behind him. "Shit." he stepped back slightly, looked down at his wrists and shaky hands.
Techno eyed the boy's figure that somehow looked even skinnier than he was when he last saw him. His eyes and the bags under them looked like they were screaming for sleep, and he walked with a slight limp. How long had it been since the fight? How long had he been trapped here so far?
"Techno- Techno you gotta help me. I- help me, please help me." Tommy pleaded, staring into Techno's eyes. Techno tried to break away from them, but the sad, faded color of the teen's irises seemed to captivate him no matter how hard he tried to tell himself he can't care.
"You probably shouldn't talk to him, I just thought I'd show you our.. first inmate, if you will." Dream said. All Techno could think about Dream in that moment was, 'This is just sick, even for me.'
"Please, Techno. Please." Tommy kept pleading till he sobbed; Techno just seemed to look straight through him the more he spoke.
"Sam and I take turns checking on him, we switch shifts every few days. Speaking of, I have to meet Sam soon, actually. Lets get out of here." Dream said, beginning to walk away so nonchalantly, it would've been surprising if it was anyone else than Dream himself.
Techno recalled finding Tommy in his house, having taken his things and eaten his golden apples. He recalled all the times, both good and bad, when he stayed with Techno. Tommy had just escaped his exile, and although he acted like his usual loud and obnoxious self, there was something off about him ever since. Techno gave him everything he needed, even comfort at some points. Techno opened his arms to someone he hardly knew, even called him a friend, just to be let down and used again.
He thought to himself for a moment. Why did things have to go the way they did with Tommy? A part of Techno wished he could care, because Tommy would never be more miserable in his entire life than he would be here; Techno knew this. He wished he could care.
"Techno?.." Tommy snapped Techno out of his daze. Techno's expression was still of stone as he looked into Tommy's eyes one last time. He blinked, sighing heavily.
Finally he dropped his eyes and began walking to the elevator where Dream was, hearing the faint cries of the boy that at one point he would've risked everything for.
