It was the day of the Manburg festival. A festival that was organized by Schlatt to be in celebration of the country he had become the new president of and all the people in it. There was supposed to be games to play, music to dance to and even fireworks. But first, speeches were going to be given, and nobody in the crowd knew what would soon be to come.
Schlatt had a plan.
Tommy and Wilbur weren't allowed at this festival, so they had to find a way to attend in stealth and hide as they wanted to watch Tubbo give his speech. Schlatt went on and on bragging about himself, and Tommy rolled his eyes at him. Wilbur and Tommy stood behind a nearby building looking up at the stadium.
Finally, after about 15 minutes of rambling, Schlatt turned the microphone over to Tubbo; Quackity, the vice president, and Schlatt now on either sides of the shorter boy. He looked nervous being in front of everyone, but soon began his speech. It was well worded for Tubbo, Tommy thought, as Tubbo had always had a hard time reading and usually needed help with writing longer things.
Everything seemed to be going fine, until after Tubbo had neared the end of his speech. He complimented Schlatt on what an 'amazing job' he was doing running the place, but Schlatt just laughed as if Tubbo had said something comedic.
Tubbo shifted on his feet nervously, asking what was so funny. Wilbur and Tommy looked at eachother with the same confused expressions.
"I know what you've been up to Tubbo."
Tommy's eyes widened in fear, his heart began to race. He turned to Wilbur, swearing under his breath. 'No no no no no. This can't be.' he thought.
"Uh, S-Schlatt? What do you.." Tubbo was obviously anxious, fidgeting with his green tie. He didn't want to believe that Schlatt knew about his betrayal, and he was completely screwed if it was true.
"You know what I mean, Tubbo." Schlatt nodded his head at Quackity as he stepped back, pulling something out from behind the chair that stood before the microphone.
Tommy and Wilbur couldn't see well enough, and were confused as to what was happening but they knew whatever it was couldn't be good. "Fuck Will, what do we do?" Tommy whisper-shouted frantically.
Wilbur shushed him, motioning back to the stage. "Just- Just wait."
Quackity and Schlatt had roughly grabbed Tubbo's arms on each side of him. The croud went into gasps and shouts. "S-Schlatt? What are you doing? H- hey- Ow!" Tubbo shouted, only causing Tommy to become more scared for his best friend, but Wilbur wouldn't let him go.
Schlatt had tied Tubbo's wrists together with rope behind his back, then pushing him forward, causing him to fall to his knees facing the crowd. Quackity handed Schlatt a piece of cloth, that he then used to tie over Tubbo's mouth so he couldn't talk. Panic flooded the young boy, it was evident in his eyes.
"W-Will! They're hurting him!" Tommy turned away, but Will held him back again, covering the frantic blonde's mouth with his hand to silence him.
Tubbo's eyes darted around searching for anything; something that could help him, maybe even his friends. He was terrified, and struggled for a few seconds to get loose before realizing it was no use, as he wasn't strong enough.
Quackity held a rough hand on Tubbo's shoulder so he couldn't move as Schlatt spoke up. "You see fellas, it turns out we have a traitor on our hands." Gasps came from the crowd, Niki yelled to let Tubbo go.
"Tubbo here, my, right hand man... or so I thought." He paused. "He's been.. spreading private information with outsiders behind my back.. going against everything he said he was for in the first place. He's a liar."
Schlatt made his way over to Tubbo. Wilbur was physically holding an incredibly anxious Tommy back now.
Schlatt kneeled down next to the boy. With one hand, he grabbed Tubbo's face roughly, turning it towards him so Tubbo had to look in his eyes. Tears spilled from them, his breathing becoming more and more rocky as he shook under the man's touch. "Do you know, Tubbo, what happens to traitors?" Schlatt let him go, standing back up and facing the croud. Tubbo dropped his head, looking to his knees, his arms still restrained behind him.
"Nothing. Good." The crowd went into loud chatter, but quieted down as Schlatt soon continued.
He spoke into the microphone. "Come on out, Techno."
Low and behold, Techno appeared from behind the chair on the stage. Tommy and Wilbur couldn't believe what was happening, surely Techno was on their side, he'd never hurt Tubbo, right? Surely he wouldn't.
Schlatt let out his signature loud and evil laugh like he always did. Tommy felt like he was going to be sick.
"Techno, why don't you.. take care, of our friend here." He said. Techno looked numb as he stepped up to Tubbo.
"He won't hurt him. He's on our side Tommy. Surely he is." Will tried to calm Tommy, who was becoming harder and harder to hold back.
Tubbo's eyes were full of shock, and he was now silently pleading to Techno, whimpering and shaking his head.
Techno pulled out a small, but sharp dagger. "Sure thing, Schlatt." He was almost inaudible as he stepped around Quackity to get behind Tubbo, Schlatt still laughing his bone-chilling laugh.
Techno held up the knife for everyone to see, bringing it down, closer and closer to Tubbo. Tubbo thrashed around trying to fight his way away, but it was no use because the rope was too tight, and now Quackity and Schlatt were trying to hold him still. He sobbed loudly, trying to yell for help. Tommy couldn't take it any longer.
It all happened in seconds. Tommy roughly pushed Wilbur away from him, throwing a pearl up to the stage. Techno reached down and placed the blade to Tubbo's neck, and in a quick slash, Tubbo's breath hitched as his skin had been sliced open.
"NO!!!" Tommy screamed louder than he ever had, having just witnessed his worst nightmare in real life.
Before Tubbo could collapse, Tommy caught him in his arms, kneeling on the ground. Tommy quickly cut his hands free, removing the cloth from his friend's face as he lay in his arms. He was coughing and sputtering, blood rushing from his neck and now slipping from his mouth. Tommy tried his best to quickly put pressure on the wound with the cloth, but messy, crimson blood was pouring from it to fast. It was utter chaos around the two, but nothing mattered to Tommy right now more than the safety of his best friend, who he knew he was losing.
"Tubbo? Tubbo talk to me! Oh, god.." tears began slipping from Tommy's eyes as Tubbo struggled to breathe, labored and jagged breaths escaping his mouth. Tommy pushed the brunette's hair from his eyes, as he held the smaller boy close to him.
"T-Tommy? Is that- Is that you?" Tubbo blinked frantically, grabbing onto Tommy's hand that was on his neck and holding it tight.
"Yes! Yes it's me, it's Tommy. I'm right here." He said, sniffling.
"I can't- I- I can't- I can't see anything." Tubbo muttered, Tommy's heart breaking with each word. This was truly it.
"I'm so sorry, Tubbo." Tommy sobbed.
"I don't- I don't want to die Tommy." Tommy wiped the blood dripping from Tubbo's mouth.
"Shh." Tommy knew he had to be strong. He knew Tubbo wasn't going to make it, he had to be there for his best friend in this moment. The last thing Tommy wanted him to be was scared. "It will be okay."
"I'm tired, Tommy." He coughed up more blood.
Tommy's heart broke for him. "Close your eyes. It's okay." He said.
Tommy hugged his friend tighter than ever as his eyes slowly dropped shut, until finally he laid still, sighing his last breath of air.
Blood was everywhere, all over the front of the stage, covering Tubbo, covering Tommy's hands.
"I love you." Tommy sobbed heavily into Tubbo's chest, which was no longer rising or falling. He was gone.
"Goodbye, Tubbo."
