TW/CW: Mention of past suicidal ideation, manipulation
~"Tommy, you have to hide, you dont have a choice. He's almost here. Whatever he says, do not- and I mean do not come out. Don't make any noise either, you'll give yourself away. Understand?" Technoblade said frantically to Tommy, who was sitting in an empty box on the second floor of Techno's house. Tommy was scared and quite nervous, especially because he didn't like tight spaces.
Tommy nodded, looking worried. "Okay.."
Just then, a knock was heard from the downstairs front doors. Both of the boys' eyes widened at eachother. Tommy quickly laid back a bit and positioned himself in the box so he'd be hidden, closing it.
Techno climbed down the ladders leading to the bottom floor, composing himself. He couldn't let Dream know that Tommy was here. Techno knew something bad had happened between the two, even if Tommy wasn't ready to talk about it. He could see it in Tommy's eyes whenever he brought up the masked man. Though, it was confusing because other times Tommy would say that he missed Dream, and that they were good friends.
Techno tried to remain level-headed when observing the younger boy, and all he knew was that Dream did something bad to his younger brother. It made Technoblade's blood boil. Tommy was annoying, and he wasn't a good listener and he made bad choices every once in a while, but who could truly blame him? He was 16 and had a traumatizing past being involved in wars and losing everything he cared about. Tommy couldn't even return to the places he once loved, he'd get shaken up and need Techno at his hip to even get close to them. Dream messed with Tommy's head, made him believe things that weren't true. Techno knew Tommy didn't deserve the way Dream probably treated him, and he secretly felt bad for him.
So, no matter how obnoxious Tommy was to him, Techno vowed to never stoop to Dream's level. Techno knew he was better than that. Besides, deep down, he really did care for Tommy.
Deep breath in, deep breath out.
Techno opened the door to reveal the man in the green hoodie with the smile face mask. "It's freezing out here." Dream said, snowflakes falling to the ground behind him for miles.
"Please, come in." Techno said, stepping aside for him to enter and closing the door behind him. Dream rubbed his hands together to warm them up.
"Why the sudden visit?" Techno asked. "It's a pretty far trek."
"Well.." Dream paused, looking around slightly. He had never been to Techno's house before, or at least inside it. "I'll cut straight to the point. You know we can be transparent with eachother, correct?" Dream asked Techno.
"Right. What is it?" Techno asked, trying to keep his monotone voice steady. Luckily, it was something he was good at.
"Tommy... Tommy escaped his exile a few days ago. I left for an hour, and when I came back, he was gone." Dream said.
"Hmm. Did something happen?" Techno asked. He knew his best bet was to probably get Dream out of his house as soon as he could, but he was curious. Tommy wouldn't tell him much, so maybe Dream would.
Dream paused again. "He wouldn't listen to me, you know how he is." Techno nodded. "He was hiding things from me, I guess he was trying to gather things to use to fight against me or something. I blew the majority of the place and his things up, and left. But I uh... I kinda regret it once I had a chance to think, so I went back an hour later and he was gone." Dream said. All Techno could think was, 'Wow..'
"I came back and there was this pillar, it reached all the way up into the clouds. I can feel it in my gut though, he's not dead. I know he isn't." Dream said firmly. Techno felt his stomach turn at the thought of Tommy taking his own life. He knew Tommy wasn't doing well, but could things have been so bad that he was actually contemplating doing that?
"Everyone in L'Manburg thinks he.. jumped." Dream said. "But I followed his trail into the woods, and found this." Dream held out a ripped green bandana. It was the one that Tommy always kept tied around his upper left arm. The bandana was Tubbo's, similar to the one Tubbo had that was red, which was Tommy's. Tommy must have lost it on his way to Techno's house.
Techno's eyes narrowed in fake-confusion. "Strange." He forced himself to say.
Dream eyed Techno behind his mask. "Mind if I take a look around?" He asked.
"Go ahead." Techno said, nervousness tightening his chest. 'Just a little bit longer.' he thought, hoping with everything in his being that Tommy wouldn't come out of the box.
Dream climbed the ladder to the second floor, Techno following behind. He looked at the brewing stands and the chests with suspicion.
Dream crossed his arms, facing away from Techno. "You know, Techno. Tommy and I were really getting along." Dream paused, looking around.
"I just... I just miss him a lot." He said, almost whining. Techno cringed, as he was only about three feet from the box Tommy was hiding in.
Tommy put his hands over his mouth. 'No. He doesn't miss me. Or does he? Shit shit shit.' he thought. 'Please leave. Please leave.'
"We had a lot of fun, Techno. If only he'd just... come back to me." Dream said, his silent, cocky arrogance making Techno feel annoyed. He stood with confidence, surely there was no way that he knew....
Tommy was becoming antsy, and hearing Dream again made him want to cry. He was conflicted about how he felt about Dream. 'Maybe I should just.. No. Techno said to stay in here. I have to stay. But... No.'
"He was here, wasn't he, Techno." Dream said. He spun around facing away from Techno, drawing his sword. Techno just wanted him to leave already, he didn't like this situation one bit.
Tommy felt a tear slip down his cheek as he held his hand over his mouth tighter. 'Leave. Please just go.'
"I can assure you, I haven't seen him." Techno said sternly. "I'd tell you if he was here."
"He hasn't stopped by.. at all?" Dream asked, still facing away.
"No. I haven't seen him since before the exile." Techno said, hoping his words sounded believable.
Dream hummed. He spun around, pointing the sharp tip of his sword at Techno's neck. Techno stepped back carefully, raising his hands at both sides of his head. "Need I remind you, you owe me one."
"I'm aware. You know I wouldn't lie to you, Dream. We're allies here." Techno said. Dream hummed, dropping his sword.
"Well. I guess I'll be off then. If you see anything, If you hear anything. Tell me. I need to find him." Dream said, walking past Techno and heading down the ladder.
Dream let himself out, closing the door behind him and leaving. Techno looked out the window, seeing the man pearl away. He sighed, letting out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding. "You can come out now." He said, turning around.
Tommy pushed the lid of the box open, quickly sitting up. He was breathing heavily, almost panicking. "Oh- oh god, I- I- f- fuck." He said between short breaths. Techno's eyes widened, as he made his way over to him.
"What is it? What's wrong?" Techno asked, squatting down to his level.
"I- maybe I should go back. He- what if he needs me? No- I, wait. No!" Tommy buried his face in his hands as he cried.
"Tommy... Tommy!" Techno tried to get his attention. "Tommy, did you hear what he said?" Techno asked, trying to knock some sense into the boy.
"He.. he misses me?" Tommy asked, eyes bloodshot as he looked up at Techno.
"What? No! He's lying, dont you see that Tommy? He knows your alive, but lets all your friends think you offed yourself!" Techno said, raising his voice a bit.
Tommy flinched, his eyes widened. He didn't want to think about what he almost did up on the pillar. Techno paused, his eyes scanning the face of the boy still sitting in the box.
Techno gave a small smile, shaking his head. "Tommy, I mean.. You weren't actually going to.." His words seemed to fall away from him.
Tommy looked Techno in the eyes. He looked sad, and scared. He was going to jump.
Dream must have really messed him up. Tommy nearly ended his own life because of him, and yet somehow he thinks that Dream cares about him.
"Tommy..."
"It- it doesn't matter." Tommy said. He felt horrible, that even now he still felt like he should just give up on everything.
"Tommy, you can get past this. You've been brainwashed, I need you to believe me when I tell you that Dream is your enemy. He is. He was never your friend, he isn't now, and he never will be. Okay?" Techno said.
"Then... how do I know you are?" Tommy asked.
Techno scoffed, standing up. "Are you kidding? I just saved your ass! I could've snitched you out. I could've taken my things and yours and kicked you out. I could've left you for dead." Techno paused. "But.. I could never do that to you Tommy."
Tommy nodded, sighing. Techno reached a hand out, and Tommy took it hesitantly, pulling him out of the box.
"Now. You need fresh air, and I need supplies. Lets go on a walk." Techno said, turning around and making his way down the ladder.
Silently, Tommy was grateful for Techno. He didn't know what would've happened to him, had he not taken Tommy in.
