Dani's POV

I started to follow Ki away from the training grounds when Lo's slender hand wrapped around my arm. I turned back to face her and she gave me a quick smile.

"Just give him time Dani. He's not going to heal overnight. Just let him nurse his wounds for now." Her voice was low so no one would hear and I nodded in agreement.

"You're right. I just hate seeing him in pain because of me." I replied quietly.

She smiled and patted my shoulder. "And that's what makes you a kind friend and future Luna. But just give him space for now."

I sighed and faced her and Sloane. "Ok then. Who's up for a run?"

Sloane turned and grinned in agreement. "Let's go! I've been itching for a run all day actually."

We all made our way down the path leading to the forest line where our favorite running paths were. Some were more overgrown than others and a few were barely even a break in the underbrush but that's why we loved them. It made us feel the most connected to our lands.

We all began to jog and quickly fell in line with Sloane in front and Lo pulling up the back. We quickly hit a comfortable pace and began to run faster as we hit our rhythm, weaving and floating through the trees as the sun sparkled through the breaks in the canopy of leaves above. I felt the urge to push forward and let my legs hit harder, slowly passing Sloane and picking up the lead.

"Oh ok. Two can play at this game." Sloane said with a laugh before picking up speed.

Lo was close behind us, staying right on our heels as Sloane pushed me harder, nearly passing me but I felt my legs moving faster than before. I could feel my wolf fueling me and wanting to jump out, her legs twitching to run the woods with me. I hit a speed even I didn't realize I could run and easily pushed ahead of Sloane as we hit a curve in the path.

Sloane yelled out as I laughed passing her. "What the hell? When did you get so fa.."

We all came to a screeching halt as a large tan wolf stood in the pathway ahead, its amber eyes glowing brightly. We stood for a moment, not moving as we remained frozen in its gaze. Finally, we slowly stepped closer and I noticed one of the eyes was slightly lighter than the other.

"Who are you?" I finally asked, keeping my voice quiet but firm. This was a strange wolf on our lands and I'd never seen one with eyes quite like that. Like mine.

The wolf stood still, watching us as if reading our body language to check for a threat. When we didn't move or engage, the wolf finally nodded once and turned to walk away from us. We each looked at each other and waited before the wolf stopped to look over its shoulder, as if to call us to follow.

"This could be a trap. We should turn back and tell the pack." Sloane said through our joined link.

"I think it's ok. I don't feel a threatening energy from it. I think it's trying to communicate with us. I'll tell Noah and my father and then I think I want to see what it wants." I responded.

I heard Sloane huff in disagreement before nodding that she would follow. I looked at Lo and she agreed as well. I sent a quick message through the link to Noah and then my father before we slowly followed behind the wolf. We kept a safe distance in case it was a trap, and our heads were consistently swiveling, looking for any sign of danger.
