Noah's POV
I left Eli to go over some of the smaller details with Theo. He'd been true to his word. He gave us everything we could have needed. Although I wasn't sure how much of it would matter since my father very well could have changed everything once he went missing. The only saving grace would be that he wouldn't have a way to know that we had him so long as Theo kept his link closed.
I quickly made my way down to the infirmary and the staff began to clear out to give me space with Dani. Only one female remained in the back to monitor the room and clean up.
I came closer in to see Lo seated with her head resting back on the chair, her eyes closed. I gently squeezed her shoulder and she jolted awake, relaxing when she saw me.
"No change." She said sleepily, slowly getting to her feet.
I gave her a somber smile. "I'll take it from here for a while. Eli is looking for you by the way."
She nodded and smiled and quietly left the room, leaving me with Dani. I sat down and pulled my chair closer to the bed, taking some comfort in her slow steady breaths as she slept. Her heart sounded stronger and they were finally able to find the baby's heartbeat. It was weak but it was there.
I softly rubbed my hand across her stomach, leaning down to place a kiss there before whispering, "I need you to heal up too little one; you and your mom both. Do you hear me?"
After a moment, I sat back into the chair, pulling her hand into mine as I looked at her lying in the bed. She looked so small. So vulnerable. I kissed the palm of her hand before turning it over and holding it in mine. The skin across the back of the knuckles on both of her hands was broken; several nails split and jagged where she'd fought back against them. I pressed my lips against each break in her flesh, each bruise on her skin, letting her now strong scent of lavender, honey and vanilla mixed with my own bring some selfish comfort.
I felt my stomach churn at the thought of what she went through at my father's hands and my anger quickly returned to the surface. "He will pay in blood for what he's done to you. For what he tried to do to our child." I thought through our link. I could feel the emptiness in our connection, feeling that her mind wasn't fully awake. She wasn't open to me now.
"Come back to me baby." I thought, but there was no response.
I finally resigned to lean back in my chair, pulling myself up to the side of the bed so I could pull her hand into my lap and keep it intertwined with mine. I kicked my legs up on the edge of the bed and let my eyes slowly close, trying to catch a moment of peace with her and try and rest before Hell entered our world here.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and I jerked awake to see Eli staring down at me. I looked at Dani and she looked the same as when I'd fallen asleep which was both a comfort that she was still ok and a curse that she hadn't improved.
"It's time to gather the pack. Time to prepare everyone for what's to come." Eli said seriously.
I nodded and shook the sleep off, rubbing a hand down my face. I pulled Dani's hand to my lips and placed a kiss against her skin before releasing it onto the bed beside her. I rubbed her stomach softly and leaned down to kiss her forehead before walking away with Eli.
I made eye contact with Sam, the healer on duty and nodded. She quickly made her way over to Dani to be sure someone remained at her side at all times. I didn't want her alone. Not after what she'd endured.
