 >Katie's POV<

20 minutes after school is over my mom finally shows up, late as usual. She walks over to the tables where we are all sitting. She is in her normal high class clothes, a pencil skirt, white button up shirt, black office jacket, and heels. She can be so stuck up at times that it bothers me but I was raised to always respect her and my father. I stand as she sits down to show that I do respect her then sit myself.

"Now that everyone is here, I am Mr. Smith the sociology teacher. Today I had the students start to think about the first project they wanted to do and your kids had a really good idea. They want to do a project on bullying and the effects it has on different people. The reason why I wanted to talk to you is that for the project they want to split into groups of three and go to two different schools." He pauses for a moment for it to sink in. "The problem is that if we have three of them transfer to one school at once it will raise suspicion. Something we talked about before you all arrived was possibly having the three that will be going to school together living with one of you like foster care in a way. I would help pay for food or any other needs during the duration of the project. The question is, would any of you be willing to house two students not including your own?" Mr. Smith asks. He looks around the table at all of our parents.
My mom stands up and looks down at me. "Can I talk to you in the hall Katie?" I stand and follow her out. The tables we had pushed together before hand are really close to the door so I am kind of worried that they might over hear whatever she has to say. She is really self centered and doesn't like anyone different from us. "Why do you want to do this project Katie? Why do you want to do it with them?! I can understand you doing the project with Chris and I am fine with that but those other kids?! No Katie! They will lower your social standing." I can see she is not done with her rant but I don't want to hear it.
"Mom stop talking shit about them! They are my friends and I don't have to worry about how I look or act around them mom. When I am with them I can actually be me and I don't have to act! When I am around you I have to sit straight, act nice, look perfect! Mom, that isn't who I am. I want to goof off and run marathons. I don't care if I get all sweaty and look unattractive, that is who I am mom and they are fine with that! I will do this with or with out your consent mom..." Without waiting for her to answer I turn back around and walk inside the class room. I hold back the tears and sit down. "I am still doing the project."
Jonathan and his mom are on my left with my mothers empty seat on my right. His mom grabs my hand and gives it a squeeze. "I can house them. You said Jonathan, Katie, and Kim are in a group right?" She asks.
"Yes. Thank you for volunteering to help. Does anyone else want to help?"
Chris' mom and dad look at him before his dad speaks up. "We have a few extra rooms so we can house them."
"Okay. Thank you guys for meeting here tonight to talk about this. I will give them the transfer papers tomorrow. We will have them move to your houses next week. If you have any questions then here is my number and email. Feel free to call or message me at anytime." Mr. Smith said while passing around papers with the info on them.
I give Jonathan and his mom a hug before getting my bag and going to the parking lot to find my mom. She doesn't even look at me when I get in, just stars the car and drives home.
