>Katie's POV<

I glance at Drew who is sitting in the crowd as I step up to the microphone. "Hello, I am Katie Gleason. I was apart of the popular crowd I will admit, I always have been. My mother made me act as a person I was not. 'Don't talk with people of lower social class, keep your head high, make sure everyone wants you'... She would always tell me these things. Once away from her I would never oblige. I didn't like the way she treated others, like vermin. No one was ever good enough, I was never good enough. I am glade she raised me the way she did though. It made me who I am."

I pause and look at Drew for support. "One of the other popular guys at my school took a liking for me during our project. He wanted to get in my pants and I kept refusing so one day at lunch he dragged me to the locker room. He would of forced me into sex and raped me right there but luckily Jonathan came in and stopped him. After that he still said that I slept with him. Other guys tried to make the move on me but it never worked. Girls started to become jealous that their boyfriends liked me better and would send me threatening messages."

"Real quickly, I want to read something to all of you then, if you want, you can write a paper about what it made you think or feel. Most of the English teaches will give you extra credit for it. This poem is called NO DIFFERENCE by Shel Silverstein."

Small as a peanut,
Big as a giant,
We're all the same size
When we turn off the light.

Rich as a sultan,
Poor as a mite,
We're all worth the same
When we turn off the light.

Red, black, or orange,
Yellow or white,
We all look the same
When we turn off the light.

So maybe the way
To make everything right
Is for God to just reach out
And turn off the light!

"So just do me a favor and think about what that means. Just ponder it and while you're at it, think about how you treat people and get treated and how that reflects on this. Thank you." I bow my head slightly then glance at Drew once more before taking my place.
