Chapter 6

If Daniel doesn't like me, it won't be too bad Juliette said, gazing over at Simon Stevens. He was the boy who most girls considered to be the cutest boy at school. He has short, spikey sandy blonde hair and ocean blue eyes. He had a beach tan from the summer before, and was captain of the school's football team.

Daniel entered five minutes after the bell had rung, and gasped as he saw me watching Simon.

"Why are you looking at that jerk, Simon?" Daniel hissed at me.

"He's not a jerk" I whispered back, blushing. Daniel rolled his eyes, and seemed very irritated.

"I'll show you after class" he muttered, and ignored me, except for when he took small glances at me.

What's he problem? I asked myself I was just looking at him. No harm done there.

"Juliette! I will ask you again, name me three different types of monkeys mentioned in your science worksheet from last night" Mr. Morrison asked, becoming impatient. I nerovusly glanced around me.

Oh no! I thought I forgot the worksheet at home!! I looked at Daniel, but then remembering he was angry with me, searched my mind for answers.

"Um, howler monkey, pygmy marmoset, and spider monkey?" I guessed. Mr. Morrison sighed and shook his head.

"Well you got one right" he admitted "The pygmy marmoset is one of them. But we're studying the three smallest monkeys, which also include the white headed capuchin and the finger monkey." I groaned and shot an angry look at Daniel. He grinned and began doodling on his notebook.

I practically jumped out of my seat when the bell rang. After being embarassed earlier, I had decided to keep quiet.

"Wait" Daniel said, grabbing me by the shoulder "Don't you want to see the real Simon?"

"Sure" I mumbled, and watched Daniel pull a strange coin out of his pocket.

"Hey Simon!" he called "Come show your true self to Juliette." And he swung the coin in a circle three times. This caused Simon to whip around and march away from his friends.

"Hey Jamie" he muttered to me, glancing back at his friends.

"Um, my name is Juliette" I reminded him. He nodded and looked angrily at his friends who had begun whistling.

"I really want this conversation to be over" he admitted "But I can't really move." He wiggled his legs, attempting to walk away, but couldn't.

"Ya, I'm kind of starting to think the same thing" I said to myself.

"You know, I shouldn't be talking to you because I have a girlfriend, who's a lot prettier than you, and she get's jealous" he muttered. Eventually Daniel clapped his hands and Simon fell to the floor, and then ran quickly out the door.

"Now do you see?" I guessed Daniel was starting the whole I told you so routine, and I was not in the mood for it. I brushed past him, wiping my tearing eyes, and walked out of the room.

"I'm sorry Juliette!!" he called after me. That just made me walk faster. I knew Daniel had do this to hurt me. I thought I had managed to get away from him, but when I spun around he was right behind me.

"Juliette" he began "It was wrong of me to show you that, and I promise I'll never do it again." Then, he did something that surprised me. He drew me into a tight hug.

"And if it matters" he whispered into my ear "You're the prettiest girl to me."
