Chapter 13
Daniel refused to let me come to his "house", so we ended up going to mine.
"Ooo! You brought your boyfriend home" giggled Bridget.
"Shut up Bridget." I wasn't in the mood for her stupid teasing so after groaning at her, I just walked by with Daniel, and up to my room.
"So, what first?" I asked. Daniel shrugged and began walking around my room. He looked over a few trophies and medals, a ceramic unicorn, and a porcelain doll that were on my dresser top, but when he touched the picture of me and my dad , I sprang up.
"No Daniel!!! Please put that down!!!" I screamed. He looked at me as if to say How big of a deal could it possibly be?
"Daniel, you don't understand. My dad is... Dead..." I sighed. I plopped down onto my bed as a tear ran down my face.
"Oh, I-I'm really sorry Juliette. I didn't know! Honest!" he apologized. I nodded as I wiped away the tears that were now running down my cheeks.
"It's o-okay Daniel. I'm fine" I sobbed quietly. Daniel sat down on my bed next to me and put his arm around me.
"You don't look fine" Daniel commented. I immediately shoved his arm off my shoulders.
"Don't you hate me Daniel??" I cried, causing more tears to run down my face. Daniel ignored my question, put his arm back around me, and kept pressing about the reason I had started crying in the first place.
"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked softly. I took a shaky breath and went into my story.
"Well my dad died because of an accident at work. He was an arcitect you see, so he was around a lot of building sites, just supervising it. So one day some guy was working on the roof of a house, when his hammer slipped" at this I made the motion of something flying out of my hand "And landed on my dad's head. He lived for a couple days more, but eventually died in his sleep from brain damage." I bit my lower lip trying not to think about the next thing.
"There's more" Daniel guessed "Tell me."
"Well the day he died, when I left I said goodbye without saying I love you because I thought I would see him the next day" tears started welling up in my eyes "But when I got there the next day, the nurses told us, I ran in and started screaming it to him. I hope he heard me." Then I started sobbing and sobbing, and I couldn't stop. Daniel took me into his arms and let me cry on his shoulder. Eventually I was all out of tears and Daniel's shirt was soaking wet.
"Oh I'm sorry" I croaked, drying my wet, red eyes. He nodded like it was no problem, took out his coin, and his shirt was once again dry.
"Well we should start on the project before it get's too late" said Daniel, once again serious. And realizing my crying fest was over he took his arm off me as if I had a deadly disease. I looked at him questioningly.
"I have a girlfriend" he replied.
"Oh, right" I mumbled, and crossed the room to my laptop. I pulled up the internet and searched for the Battle of Monmouth. A bunch of links came up and I clicked on the first one I saw. It was loaded with information and pictures, perfect for a diarama and report. Once Daniel and I had written a rough draft for the report and drawn up ideas for the diarama, Daniel decided that he should leave. But before he left my room, he quickly kissed me on the cheek, causing my mouth to drop open.
"Don't mention that to Annaliese" he quickly added before leaving my room.
