Chapter 16

Annaliese was so shocked that she didn't cry, didn't speak. She just watched Daniel walk away, shoving his coin back in his pocket. Then she turned to me.

"Did that really just happen?" she squeaked. I placed a hand on her shoulder and nodded. Annaliese started to tear up. I felt bad for her, but now Daniel was free, and I couldn't help but smile. But it still hurt me to see her this broken.

"I-I have to tell you something" she sobbed.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Well, I thought you should know, I didn't want to take the coin from the lost and found" she said. I gave her a confused look.

"Well then, why did you take it?" I shrieked.

"W-well" she began in a shaky voice "Someone wanted me to get it for them. It-it was Simon." Realization dawned on me. Simon had seen the coin when Daniel was hypnotizing him. He was the one who wanted the coin!!

"Daniel! Daniel!" I cried, racing after him. He stopped abruptly and I smashed into his back.

"What?" he growled. For a second I didn't answer, because Daniel looked menacing. His jaw was clenched and his eyes were lit up with a hidden fire.

"Well, Annaliese didn't want to take the coin from the lost and found" I told him "Simon made her." Daniel stood there for what seemed like forever, and then his eyes turned red.

"That no good mortal!" he said in a deep voice that did not belong to him "I knew he was no good!!" Then, he ran off at an unhuman speed. I tried to keep up, but he was to fast for me. Finally, I got close enough to grab his shirt. Daniel stopped and whirled around to face me.

"What is it??" he roared "I must eliminate Simon!!"

"What??" I shrieked "Eliminate him? You can't do that!!" I saw Daniel standing in front of me, waiting for a reason. I couldn't think of one, but I knew Daniel was still his old self on the inside. The old self, that liked me. So, without doing any thinking, I kissed Daniel.
