The sun was shining bright over the mountain tops. The fog was still rising from the lake. The woodpeckers were busy at work on the trees all around the forest. It was a cool March morning here in Montana and I loved it. Just me and Buck. Buck and I rode all through these hills and had some of our best moments right here too. From the time he was just a year old. He was the best, and only horse I'd ever been with in all the years I'd been riding, and competing. Buck was my trick riding horse, and I am Sadie Rosen. I had been trick riding and competing in rodeos since I was eleven. My dad, a former bull rider, owned a rodeo grounds school that he and my sister ran. My mother handled the business side. I worked there too. I loved teaching the younger girls to do what I loved so much. I couldn't imagine any other life for myself other than being right here in Montana, with my family, riding Buck. Honestly, nothing could've made my life any better.
I always got in from my morning ride at around 8:30. Mama always had breakfast cooked, and Daddy was going over his classes for the day.
"Good ride, sweetie?" Mama asks as I sat down. She placed a mug of coffee in front of me.
"Isn't it always?" I reply. She smiled.
"Eat up. You've got a class at 10" She says. "Ellie just left with Romeo". Romeo was Ellie's barrel racing horse. That's what she competed in.
"Great. Let me load up Buck. I'll eat this on the way" I say grabbing a biscuit and scrambling out the door. I always wore jeans, boots, and a flannel shirt over top of a spaghetti strap. My long, brunette hair always fell past my shoulders. I usually kept it put up when I was working, but down when I was trick riding.
When I arrived at the grounds, I had Buck unloaded and put in his stall. We had a couple ranch hands that worked there, and sometimes for us on our ranch. Scotty was my favorite.
"Hey, Bucky boy" Scotty says guiding him out.
"Ellie in the roundpen?" I ask.
"Uh, no. She's was in the office" He says.
"Got it. Thanks, Scotty" I say. He smiled and tipped his hat before I walked away. I made my way to the office. It overlooked the whole rodeo grounds. Ellie was on the phone. She held up her hand, indicating that it was important.
E: yes, sir . yes, when sadie comes in, i will let her know. okay, thank you so much. no, the pleasure was all mine, mr. walsh. goodbye.
When she hung up the phone, I spoke up.
"Uh, hello. Sadie is right here" I say and sit down across from her. She was behind moms desk.
"Sadie, that was David Walsh" She says.
"And...who is he?".
"David Walsh?! He's only the manager of the PBR Entertainment Tour!" She says. "Daddy would have a fit that you don't know him".
"Bull Riding?" I ask. "What's he calling here for? Daddy doesn't teach bull riding. He only trains people that already ride".
"He didn't call for bull riding. He called for trick riding! He called for you, Sadie!" She exclaims. My face dropped.
"Me? What's he want with me?" I ask.
"He is offering you a spot on his upcoming tour. He saw you win at worlds last year. He said he only picks two trick riders, and he wants you, Sadie!" She explains. I couldn't help but smile.
"Do I get to think about it?" I ask with a smile. I obviously wanted to talk about it with mama and daddy, but it sounded cool.
"He said that you're his final girl to hire on. $500 a show. Three shows every week. All other expenses paid, like hotels, bus, horse trailer. All that Jazz.
"Guess, I've got some thinking to do, Ell" I say. She smiles as we stand up to go start class.
"My sister, the rodeo girl" She says. I gently nudge her with my shoulder.
"Well, before I decide...let me just go be Sadie Rosen, the trick riding instructor" I say. She smiled again. My sister was my bestfriend. If I decided to go, leaving her would be the hardest part.
