~Gwanak-gu, Seoul, South Korea, noon~

I stretch out when we ultimately reach Seoul after a safe journey of 5 hours from my hometown. "It feels so pleasant," I say to my parents, who were trying to hail a cab. "Dad, I'll do it," I propose and make him stand behind and relax rather than exhausting himself.

After a good 3 minutes of attempting to get a cab, we, at last, hailed one. "SNU university?" I ask the driver, who nods and comes out. The driver helps us with shoving the suitcases into the trunk.

My dad sits on the passenger seat with the box of my supplies. Whereas, mom and I were behind with a big bag in between us. It wasn't that stuffy up, but it was a little compacted.

The ride to the university was in the silence of adoration. I kept looking out the whole time, looking at the place I would be living in. It feels a little overwhelming as my inner guts clutch every time I think of my future. The butterflies are floating inside up to my neck.

The car pauses in front of the university. "ID?" The guard asks shortly. I quickly hand him the letter of enrollment. He checks the letter briefly and immediately lets us in the university by opening the big doors.

I finally enter the campus of Seoul University, my dream, my life, my everything. "It's so beautiful," My thoughts slip out of my tongue, loud as I step out of the cab admiring the clean and sophisticated campus. I look at my mother. She glances around with a satisfying smile.

"Yes, it's clean," My mother says and holds my shoulder, flashing a sweet smile. "Welcome to college life, Ray," I smile broadly at her and swing my bag over my shoulder, also helping dad with the box. The driver takes my suitcase out of the trunk. I grab it, and my mother takes the box. "Thank you," We acknowledge the driver with a shallow curtsey.

"It's okay," He bows back. My dad pays the driver his fare and asks him if he can wait for a moment. The driver agrees to it with a genuine smile. People are also decent here.

"Let's get in quickly," I pull the suitcase, not wanting to make the driver wait for long. My room number was 420, which is way in the corridor. The hallway is still not packed since it is early and the starting of the new semester. Seniors are on holiday as newcomers are the only ones to be seen so far. "Here we are, 420," I open the door to the sound of soft music on high volume and the smell of really calming and expensive perfume, like Dior or Chanel. "Hello," I greet in a low voice but a wide smile.

The girl turns to us after hearing us. The girl turns to us, making my parents' facial expressions change drastically. I close my eyes, knowing what is going to come up next. She has a lot of ear piercings and tattoos on her left arm. "Hey," She replies with a broad smile. "New Roomie?" I nod and place the box on the bed, which looks unused. "Hi, I'm Im Chaeryoung, Chae for short, and you?"

"Oh, hi, I'm Jeong Ray," We shook hands firmly. "Are we two only?" I ask curiously. I could already feel the danger coming with her vibes. She looks okay but dark at the same time.

"Uh, no. One more girl stays here. She is out for a moment," I nod and turn to my parents, who are feeling awkward with Chaeryoung's appearance. "I'll leave the room for you now," She gives me a small smile on the way of walking out in her platform boots with big headphones wearing jeans shorts topping it up with a tank top.

"Everything okay?" I break the stillness and their judgmental stares at my new roomie. "You look pale."

"Are you sure you wanna live with her?" My mom's voice comes out with fear and concern. I nod confidently with a small smile.

"She doesn't look like a great company, Ray," My dad starts, making me sigh.

"Mom and dad, calm down. Those are just tattoos, and it's natural these days. It's not like she was drinking, smoking, or having boys over," I try to make them understand, but I did not realize I am putting petroleum to take down the fire.

"What if she does?" My dad's intrusiveness comes out immediately.

"Dad, I said I'll be fine. You both can rely on me. And it's not like Soya doesn't have one tattoo herself. You both know she is a good girl," I convince them and settle all the stuff on the bed.

"Okay, honey, but if something happens, then tell us. We'll get your room changed immediately," I grin at my concerned parents and give them an assuring nod.

All of us walk out to the driver who is waiting for them. They both hug me and stand there, not wanting to let me go. "We'll miss your presence in the house. It will be so still and deserted now."

"No, mom, you still have Bruno with you," I laugh, mentioning my dog. I played the whole day with him, not wanting to let him go as well. After a very brief goodbye session, they finally drove off. My heart is already aching because of their absence. But this is life - nothing is permanent except your presence to yourself.

I re-enter the room, "I alarmed them, didn't I?" I get astonished by the voice of Chaeryoung.

"No, it's just that they are scared to let me go," I chuckle clumsily and grab my box. "This is vacant, right?"

"Yes, but I would recommend you to, um, use the upper one," She proposes. I nod at her and place my bag on the upper deck without any question. "But they thought I was a shady company, right?" I peep at her and give her a slow nod. She laughs and stands up, walking to me. "Well, even if I am, I don't think you would fall for it," She says, leaving me confused. "I'm a year older. My whole group failed because we took revenge on a professor," I feel trouble while hearing it. "Also, the other girl, she isn't out. She is actually over her boyfriend's place since last night."

I am feeling a little jittery now. "Um, okay... You didn't have to tell me all that," I awkwardly chuckle. She is crazy.

"Well, I wouldn't have, but I thought you should know," She sits on the lower deck and gazes up at me. I have the desire to call my parents but chose to shrug it off. "You smoke?"

"No, I don't," I try to be soft, but the bluntness in my voice was audible to both parties. I take out my clothes and peep at Chaeryoung to see her smirking. "Where do you keep clothes?" I ask in my normal voice again. I want to finish all of this and have a little campus voyage.

"Oh yeah, the advantage of this university is that you have your cupboard. Those two are empty, so you look into it, and for that drawers, the last two are empty," Chaeryoung points towards the white doors and one big multi-chest drawer. I thank her and make my way to the cupboard. "If you need any help, you can call me. My number is on the pinboard there," She says as if she wants to be friends with me after she exposed everything to me. Sorry, but hell no!

"Okay, sure," I smile and nod at her. She left the room after beaming a broad smile at me. After she left, I sigh dejectedly and hit my head on the wall. What the fuck was that? Am I going to be okay? Well, I should be.
