Chapter 7

Chapter 7: One Year

" Thanks for waiting Sensei! I hope that it wasn't a bother for you to wait. "

A warm soup, pancakes, soft bread, and boiled eggs are placed on the table. The aroma of the breakfast was wafting. It smells so good that it makes Chiron's appetite increase. He stared at Diomedes who was placing the array of breakfast one by one. He never realized how good his student was at making delicious foods until he started learning about cooking.

Meanwhile, Jason removed the gloves that were made of thick wool from his hand and sat on the chair that was opposite his teacher. He inhaled and his face turned pleasant at the smell of their delicious breakfast. After a while, Chiron replied distracting him from the pleasant aroma of food.

" It wasn't a bother Diomedes. I am glad to wait for your food every meal. It was very delicious and clearly, it shows that you have a talent for cooking. "

Jason smiled when Chiron praised his cooking. He would hear it frequently but he would never get used to it. He felt happy and satisfied since Chiron acknowledged his skills in Cooking. At the start, he was no good at it. He would frequently make mistakes or would have his cooking result into a mess. But he has never given up unlike when it comes to learning how to use the sword. Unlike the sword where he can find other alternatives of weapons to wield, cooking was too important to give up. It was a necessity for his comfortable life. In a life, where he ended up in the Ancient Era of Greece in another world. An era where he didn't belong and the food that he had gotten used to eating every day. Now that those foods are gone. Jason tried his best to recreate that delicious food and satisfy his gourmet life.

He made a lot of errors from the start of his journey of cooking. In his world, he was only a person who knew how to cook instant foods, how to make a boiled egg, and other simple and basic cooking recipes. But since he was transported into this world, Jason made sure that his cooking skills had improved. It was a trial and error of discovery and relying on his faulty memories of watching some cooking shows or watching his mother cooking their food while he was still a child.

One year has passed since Jason has been placed into the body of the supposed Greek Mythology Hero Iasōn of Argonauts. He was placed into the body of the man when he was still five years old. Now that one year has passed, the body was already a 6 year old.

Aside from avoiding the suffering of his gourmet life, Jason has also made sure that his other necessities would be satisfied. Other than cooking, he also improved his sewing and drawing skills. He also started to experiment on learning to do carving and continued studying under Chiron.

The future Archer Servant taught him about making medicine. Jason frequently assisted his teachers in making simple medicines so that they could acquire more things by bartering them on the market of Iolcus. Other than teaching him how to make medicine, Chiron also teaches him how to read and write. He also guided him on how to improve his Archery skills and convinced him not to give up on his sword skills because he wasn't good at it. With hard work and determination, he would improve but Jason was stubborn about not learning how to use a sword. No matter how many times Chiron convinced him, Jason would refuse to take a sword and start swinging them.

Before the student and teacher started eating, Chiron asked Jason.

" Now that everything is prepared, Diomedes would you like the one to lead on praising the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus? "

" I think it would be better for you to be the one who would pray Sensei. I am afraid that I will make a mistake. "

As usual, Jason refuses the offer. There's no way that he would pray for the gods and goddesses of Olympus and thank them for their blessings. Also, despite knowing that they exist here, he wouldn't still go to worship them. The characteristics and personalities of those Gods aren't worth being worshiped for.

After Chiron thanked the Gods of Olympus, they ate their breakfast while slowly enjoying their taste. Jason then went to clean the table when they finished eating their first meal of the day.

Chiron then started going around the forest to look for the other ingredients of the medicine that he didn't have. While Chiron was scouring through the mountain of Pelion, Jason would go outside their home and tend to their little farm and garden of medicines.

Over this one year, a lot of things have changed in their living conditions. Jason was thankful that they weren't living too primitively for his modern aesthetical mind. He was proud of himself for his hard work over that one year. It wasn't easy for a modern man like him to have his situation change so suddenly. He adapted to that one year and continued to be innovative. Just like the cooking, he wasn't also good at farming. All of the plants that he has grown the first few times have withered away and died.

Jason then decided to ask some experienced farmers in the city of Iolcus for advice the few times that he visited the city. He also noticed that something had changed within the city after their first visit. The people were tense and frightened. But after the next few visits, it went normal again.

There was one time that he said to Chiron that he wanted to go on his own and didn't want to bother him. But Chiron refuses his offer and insists that he wouldn't let Jason come into the city of Iolcus on his own. The teacher and student let the matter drop after that. And Chiron would also helpfully lead him around the city if Jason wanted to do something. Just like asking those farmers some tips about farming and any helpful information that he can use from those people.

For Jason, it wasn't easy to fish out information from those people. Those people even need a bribe for them to give information about the plants or ask them what went wrong with their method of farming. They didn't even give him a face at all in front of Chiron. Maybe it also has to do with the fact that the people of this era treat some people differently. He was just a kid in their eyes who was having the curiosity get the best out of him. Even when he was asking some serious questions and willing to learn. Jason has nearly given up that time since those people weren't willing to give him some farming tips. Thankfully, Chiron decided to step up that time and ended up bribing those people so that Jason could learn some useful tips in farming.

At the end of that journey, Jason also ended up learning that Chiron is fairly knowledgeable when it comes to plants and crops and when would be the best time to plant them.

Looking at the nearly grown plants while reminiscing, Jason felt satisfied. He has come so far when it comes to cooking and growing plants. They have different crops and plants on this mountain that were planted by him and his Teacher. Jason was certain that they wouldn't run out of spices and delicious food.

" Now, let's get started on practicing Archery. "

Jason muttered to himself. But before that, he started stretching and doing his daily basic exercises. While exercising, he can't help but let his mind wander into something. It has been one year but Jason only saw that his teacher is proof of a Centaur existing here in this place. In one year, Jason didn't see any centaur other than his teacher on this mountain. Aside from normal animals, he also didn't manage to see a glimpse of any magical beasts in the mountain. But thinking that he never got far away from the cave, maybe it was normal not to see anything.

That day, was just like a normal day for Jason in a new world. He was happy, peaceful, and silent while he was progressing in the improvement of his life circumstances. He doesn't need to worry about the inevitable future for a moment. He wasn't worried that he would become that man. His fate was to become famously known for the quest of Golden Fleece and the gathering of many Greek Heroes. His teacher, Chiron, isn't here and is currently busy finding herbs somewhere on this mountain. He wouldn't worry about his teacher. Jason wouldn't also worry about Medea, Atalanta, Heracles, Dioscuri, Caenis, and Asclepius.

Jason sighed in relief. Feeling his mood improving while looking at his little farm garden. He hoped that this peaceful feeling would last forever.

But he was certain that this peaceful feeling wouldn't last long. Yet, never Jason would think that it would be so soon.
