Chapter 15: Months of Learning and Stupidity
A few months have passed since Jason requested to learn Magic under the god of beekeeping Aristaeus. If someone asked how the experience was when it came to learning magic, Jason would answer them with a completely tired and doomed look on his face. Since Aristaeus began teaching him and probably became his secondary teacher, every day was torture for Jason.
Since starting his learning of magic, Jason has been tired every day. If you ask him if he expected that he would get tired, the answer is yes. But never did Jason think that he would need to fucking climb up and down Mount Pelion every day!
As for how he got into the city of Iolcus, there was Chiron, who would always carry him so that he wouldn't get tired and waste his energy. Aristaeus wasn't also a person who was fond of bullying and teasing him. He was also developing a massive streak of sadism. Jason wanted to throttle the demi-god. But for now, he was just a little child who had just made his first baby steps in magic. An ordinary mortal who has potential, nothing more and nothing less.
Jason swore to himself- that someday, there would be a day when he would get his revenge and make Aristaeus pay for all of the humiliation that he had done! ( Jason stopped the urge to cringe after he swore it inside his mind. Those lines just sounded like those cliche revenge novels where the protagonist has blackened after he was betrayed or tormented by his evil relatives, arrogant young masters, etc. He also thought that it wasn't suitable for him to become an avenger. He wasn't an edgy and cool guy. He was just a normal guy who had so many lame and awkward moments. Those cool and edgy mantle belongs to the Avenger Servants with their eighth-grade syndrome. )
Climbing up and down the mount Pelion is tiring. But as time passes by, Jason can see the effects of it. He can see his shitty endurance increasing slightly. Other than increasing his stamina, Aristaeus was also teaching him how to properly build up a foundation so that he could accumulate the life energy around him and turn it into Mana. He was being helped in his Magic Circuits or Magic Core- whatever does he have in his body and what are those called in this age. He was certain that the Magic Circuits of this age were different from the modern defective ones.
But before Aristaeus taught him how to introduce the continuous flow of magical energy through him, Jason first went through the process of introducing the activation of mana production on his body for the first time. From what he remembered and read in the fate lore, it was common for the magus to awaken their magic circuit through sexual excitement (As expected of an original eroge visual novel) or through the use of drugs. What kind of drugs it is- it wasn't even implied what kind of dubious component of it in the first place.
Other triggers in activating the magic circuits involve self-injury. And you know what? Jason would never think that it was the most popular option at this age. And Jason was certain that the Magic Circuits of the Age of Gods were very different. Aristaeus even recommended Jason have a sparing practice with Chiron so he could cast his first magic. Chiron who has been a little bit gloomy? Lately agreed to have a sparring match and practice with him. The centaur also thought at that moment that it was time for him to learn close combat. Jason's face paled when Chiron seemed to look forward to teaching his student to fight with punches and kicks. This must be the reason why Achilles is so eager when it comes to fighting. He becomes twisted after experiencing the close combat lessons of Chiron. Jason... has no plan of following in the footsteps of his kouhai. And if there was ever a day that Alaya deemed him alright to be ever recorded in the throne of heroes, he would stay as far away from Saint Martha and Ruler Martha as possible. He would also avoid Beowulf, Quetzalcoatl, Samba Quetzalcoatl, Spartacus, Leonidas, and Astraea.
After he was beaten by Chiron- it was still painful despite the centaur being very careful when he was teaching him, Jason didn't activate his switch. Aristaeus lamented that beating the shit out of him was ineffective. He suggested having Jason being chased by the hostile centaurs of Mount Pelion. Thankfully for his safety and relief, Chiron deemed it too dangerous. After that, Aristaeus proposed various life-endangering situations for him to pick so that he could awaken the devil trig- what he meant was to activate his magic.
Jason, being afraid for his safety and life, proposes the theory of just thinking of a very stressful situation for himself as a trigger to activate his magic. Aristaeus decided to humor him. But it was unexpected for the demi-god for Jason's method to be effective when his magic was activated for the first time.
Eventually, both Chiron and Aristaeus were curious about what is his trigger. Jason was reluctant to reveal it since he thought that they would probably never understand it. In the end, Jason reluctantly told them. Imagining himself in the space while he was floating in the cold darkness. He can't move, speak and breathe- with chains binding him, his life eventually drifted out of him and staring or probably imagining in the last moments of his death how he misses his 'home'. Aristaeus thought that it was interesting after listening to Jason while Chiron entered somehow in what would people call mother hen mode.
After he had successfully awakened his magic for the first time, Aristaeus then guided him on how to convert the life force around him into magical energy. Since ether is one of his elements, he would have an easier time grasping them. Jason also reminded himself to don't end up like Shirou or Emiya. He emphasizes in his mind that he would never follow in the harem protagonist's footsteps. Aristaeus's lessons about the mana core not being part of the body but of the soul helped. Instead of imagining a nervous system, Jason visualized and just followed the footsteps of cultivators from the various wuxia and xianxia web novels.
While teaching Diomedes for the next few months, Aristaeus never expected his former teacher's students to exceed his expectations. It seems that he underestimated him because he was just a little kid, and compared to the other previous students of his former teacher, Diomedes was normal even though he had this unusual talent, like being excellent in household chores and cooking. Those things aren't exceptional when you compare them to the feats and skills of Chiron's previous students who became famous heroes and known throughout the region.
Now, there was something that Diomedes would be known for. An exceptional magic-user... Aristaeus was looking forward to what the future holds for him. He was certain that it would be interesting.
If only Aristaeus did and envisioned with his magic, he wouldn't probably have this kind of thought. He would probably berate him and stop with the self-visualization of his magic.
A pot calling a kettle black. Jason would never know that he was making the same error as Shirou did albeit in a different way. The various ideas and entertainment he has in his world have poisoned his mind actively and subconsciously. Various franchises and ideas from different literature, Absolute Chaos- it was probably one of the obvious results that would happen.
